Wondering what you guys have found to be the best for these little varmints, I guess I'm mainly interested in launching them as high as possible. I saw in Daves video that the 6mmAI did a real nice job on them, I'm looking for something along those lines.
Last year I worked them over with a 22-250 and 40 vmax at warp speed, didn't really give the launch factor tho.
This year I'm planning on trying the 50 vmax, also a 30-06 with 110 vmax and a 243 with the 75 and 58 gr vmax.
Anyways I'm sure you guys have tried a lot of combinations, so what's your favorite?

For the smaller ones, p-dogs and such, my longtime favorite is the .22BR using 40 Vmax at 4,000 fps. That bullet at that velocity just seems to be a good match for getting complete energy dump on the rat sized critters. And the .22BR is super accurate, doesn't use too much powder (by my standards...) so the barrel doesn't heat up quite so fast and also lasts longer.

For 'chucks, my main squeeze is a .22-250AI using 55 Vmax at 3,850 fps. It launches them well. But, doesn't launch them AS well as several others I have used. A really good day on 'chucks though, we get into numbers some p-dog shooters would be jealous of, so the barrel heat and wear comes into play, which is the main reason the .22-250AI is my "main squeeze".

Others I have used that do launch higher include the 6AI, the 6-284, and the .243AI. All of those .243 bores shooting bullets from 55 to 80 gr. have been devastating 'chuck medicine. The 75 Vmax at 3,8000 fps being perhaps the filthiest of the bunch.

But! The all time champ that I have ever seen... A good friend has a couple of custom chambered .257 Weatherby's. Has his own reamer, short throat without all the Wby freeborn nonsense. Long barrels, too - 28" and 30". He spits 100 gr. Sierra's at 4,000 fps and I am here to tell you, that is FILTHY 'chuck medicine! Just spectacular. have to see it to believe type stuff.

Damn! I can't imagine a 257Weatherby with 100 grain bullets doing four grand? Maybe the 28-30" barrel has something to do with it? Do you have any information on the powder used?

I have my main squeeze Nevada gun for many years. Never used on Chucks, but it has killed primarily, (let's say almost exclusively) long range coyotes, 400/500 yards at night. The plan is usually to break it out on a stationary animal that is well marked. Need to check the boxes, or it isn't used, but when I needed to dump a curious coyote, it was very dependable. I chrono'ed that load at 3650fps with 100 grain Ballistic Tips. I haven't shot it in five years; many reasons but mostly, I don't do much contests any more, and don't get up north as much as I used to.

Still, There is a lot of difference between 3650 and 4,000. I always thought a one hundred grain bullet with the right powder was the only way I could approach 257WM velocities. I've had three of them over the years, it's a nostalgic favorite. They have all sported 28 1/2" Hart barrels.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? Nothing really, but four grand from a quarter bore got my attention.

Good hunting. El Bee
