Author Topic: learn something new every day TRnCO FUTURE HALL OF FAMER Member # 690 posted May 08, 2014 12:32 PM                    So a year or two ago, I remember a big hoopla raised over Fred Eichler using FMJ's when hunting coyotes. Best fur bullet, according to him. Well, I guess it turns out that he's not alone in his thinking. Thumbing through my latest Cabelas GUNSPORTS mag., I read this in the ammo. selection guide under the Predator/varmint hunting column, "The bullets you use when predator or varmint hunting should depend on the goal of your hunt. If you're hunting for furs, using FMJ bullet is the best option. FMJ's punch very small holes in an animal's hide. However, tracking the animal may take longer, as less internal damage will occur." Huh, and here I thought a single hole in without exit and lots of internal damage, and no tracking, was a better option. I'm still learning I guess. -------------------- Is it hunting season yet? The only FMJ bullets I use in a rifle are M193 5.56x45 (.223) in my AR's, because I have a box or two. Strictest quality control is maintained during it's production. So rigid is the inspection, Speer Silver Match bullets are available only in limited quantities". The article then continues to say... Showing a picture of a 10 shot, 200 yard group. "Here is the actual size reproduction of the WORLD RECORD 10 SHOT GROUP shot by Alan Bench of Yakima Washington. Shooting Speer Silver Match Bullets Al recorded a registered 100 yard group measuring .143", August !5, 1964 at Seattle Washington". But, in their defense, there will be more tracking.
