Played hooky from work and went calling for cats this morning. I dont know what it is, but they are thick as fleas this year. My plan was to make some quick stands, calling to the edges of some thick areas that I normally save for grey fox. I know there are cats here, and it's easy to get to, so I figured what the heck. Grabbed the ol Mossy 835 and went to it.
I must have set up right on top of him, because right off the bat, first stand, about 1 minute into it, this big ass male comes in. I have the new CS24C speaker set to my left only about 10 yards away, playing a baby cottontail song. I immediatly see some legs moving through the brush, then lose them. A few LONG seconds later, I see a tail wagging though a hole in the bushes, so I figure he's still interested. Then, he creeps forward into the open, stalking the speaker, and immediatly stops, turns his head and stares a hole right through me. I pull the trigger and Dead Coyote T shot to the cranium. Got a second cat but pic will not show up in Flikr for some reason. Anyhoo...dead cat.

Hit second cat in the neck mostly, (on his left side which was facing me at an angle) T shot everywhere.

Thanks guys, second one rolled into a plain old cottontail-ish enclosed reed call.
There's always a lot of cats around these parts but this year I've been seeing a lot more of em. Or at least they're out and about more. Everytime I turn around I see one crossing the road or sitting on a rock or whatever. Lot of guys are whacking them pretty good this year and saying the same thing. Mark

I carry a canvas covered pad that I sit on. It's real thin and great for throwing over barbed wire fences so I can cross. Have a lot of those up around here. I've called up a few more cats since I started this thread. Called up a couple for a buddy and his son. Great fun to help them get a cat to mount. edit: I've threatened to try one of the loungers, just not sure if I want to carry it? Mark [ December 25, 2014, 07:02 PM: Message edited by: Lone Howl ]

OMG! Did you kill that cat? Is that legal? Such a beautiful animal and now it's possibly dead... are you gonna eat it? My dad told me to never shoot nothin' 'less you was gon' eat it.
I see lots of T shot sticking like that on coyotes too. That's a hell of a nice knife. [ January 09, 2015, 01:07 PM: Message edited by: Chris S ]

Wow! I'd never heard of Winston Knives and just took a look and they make some real beauties. I better start saving my pennies if I want one. Probably a long waiting list...
Nice cat, btw. [ January 09, 2015, 02:05 PM: Message edited by: Chris S ]

Hi Dan, I've been arrowhead hunting. It has become a pretty fun summer hobby. It Has kinda replaced fishing not by design though. I love fishing but I realize I haven't been very much the last couple years. I have also been working and trying to find work. Almost starved to death the last couple years but by God's grace, we are really busy again!
How are things with you? Any cats killed this year?

Danny, I was told you were a gold coin trader? We all know how value has increased, since the last time you posted. Hope things are looking up for you?
I remember Danny Batistini telling me that after he was laid off from his hospital job of more than 20 years, he had to sell his guns. That's pretty bad. Good thing his fourth wife had some money.
Good hunting. El Bee

Hi Loco... Found this bad boy a while back out calling. Found another one in the same area, but white, and a bit bigger, and in perfect shape. Dont know if this an arrowhead or little spearhead?

Possibly an Atlatl point.

It's a spear point. Actual arrowheads are in the 3/4 to half inch range. The physics say that those bigger "arrowheads" when cast, (whether from an atlatl or not) start tipping and never arrive point first. An actual arrowhead, and for the Paleohunter, these arrows were not fletched, but the usually had a two part arrow with the front section made out of reed material and for aerodynamics.
That's a nice one in obsidian. I have one about that size, black, but the tip is broken. I guess it's just easier to find large "projectile points" than tiny arrowheads?
I collected some knapped pieces up in Nevada, a couple weeks ago, scrapers actually. Jasper.

That's New Jersey for ya. Stupid liberal laws, just like Kalifornia, but with bad weather. Plus, everybody driving around in their Lincoln, with a body in the trunk. What's not to like?
