exactly WHY nobody, including the government can protect personal information?
Here we are, America seems to have invented the Computer, the Internet, all this electronic wonder stuff and they somehow cannot build in protections?
Yeah, maybe my social security and everything else is stolen; well, they won't get much, but what about really important stuff? Like secret stuff, nuclear codes, plans and blueprints for the F35 fighter jet, already a carbon copy being flown by The People's Liberation Army Airforce. Like attack submarines, details of how to make propellers stealthy, share with Japan and suddenly China knows all about it.
The thing is, besides these personal data breaches, the Chinese are robbing us blind stealing intellectual property and thumbing their nose at our patent laws. We look like idiots! And, we are idiots!
But, would it not be easy to keep confidential data protected from hackers in pajamas, living in their mom's basement? All I know is I am getting damned sick and tired of the clowns that run our government! When was the last time you heard of somebody getting fired for incompetence? Not, us little people in the private sector, I'm talking about those that control everything in government. Lois Lerner comes to mind. Man! I'd lock that smug little bitch up right now!
End of rant

Short answer is no, it can't be totally protected and no, I don't wonder why. Republicans aren't going to be any help.

That's kind of pathetic, Dave. There's no solution?
Sorry, I thought somebody would care? The apathy around here is <shrug>
Maybe we can appoint someone to look into it? All in favor?

It's not apathy, it's informed realistic expectation.
No, there's not anything that can be done about it, in the long run.
It's the nature of the beast. And bureaucrats are in charge, not politicians, anyway. Who's in the Whitehouse doesn't make jack shit worth of difference.
Oh, there's "something" that could be done, I suppose. Long term. Start investing in education and infrastructure. That ain't gonna happen though. The Leeches who actually control this country aren't about to let that much money go.
Republicans and Democrats got nothing to do with it. They all suck the same dicks.

Was not I, that brought up the political. I agree, it's to do with the intrenched bureaucracy, more than anything. Oh, and incompetence; The Peter Principle is alive and well, in government.

The government protect our information??? Hell, they can't even run a whorehouse...the one the IRS seized in a tax forfeiture lasted about a year in Nevada...pretty bad when you can't even sell women and whiskey!
Anything the government touches turns to turds. A lot of the stuff they try to run would be better if it was handed off to the private sector to look after.

because it's the government who elect nothing but stupid people who think they are above everything and everyone. Just hire these hackers put them on the payrole to stay a step ahead. Worst think ever invented was the internet. Yes, I met some nice people but when gone doing something else I don't miss it one bit.
