Doing better each day still cant draw my bow but am working on it daily using a total gym I lost about 70 lbs and a lot of muscle went with it.
Still have one surgery to go but its a minor deal by comparison. When I first picked up my bow I could not budge it now I am a about 3/4 draw. August is coming look out mule deer!

My compound cant get it to let off point quite yet. I haven't used a traditional bow in many years, may take it up again some day. I love the can't miss of the modern compound bow. And the effectiveness of a four blade fixed broad head.

Hey Paul;
If you have access to a medical supply place, pick up some surgical tubing. Tie the ends to a short section of broom handle and you can practice draw while watching Oprah. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) When it gets comfortable, add some more tubing.
Rig up a finish nail on the side and you can practice holding a sight pin on target while you're at it.
I've about put the compound aside for good.

Koko, a buddy of mine used to shoot a Super Diablo. I always liked that bow. A real unique look too...
Seems like I recall a time when they were discontinued or no longer being made, because of something to do with "rain forest" woods.
I wanna say the older ones had zebra wood...maybe they still do.

Both of my Super Diablo's are zebra wood. I was also able to pick up a matching Damon Howatt longbow in zebra wood.
`Maybe` not as fast as a Black Widow but close enough for me & my much abused wallet.

If that is a politically incorrect bow I may have to seek one out just for sierra club and earth first get together's of course.

The various woods used for everything, from fireplaces to gunstocks is, mostly subjective. As far as quality and utility. I haven't heard of Maple being used in archery equipment, but who knows?
Anyway, the term, "rain forest" conjures up Papua New Guinea or tropical south America, whereas, "Zebrawood" sounds like the origin might be African?
Almost all the Zebrawood I have seen was stocks on shotguns and that's not many. It is prohibitively expensive, another reason I don't own any.
Just between you and me, I don't think it's all that attractive, on a personal level. Circassian walnut, Claro walnut, Myrtle, and fiddleback maple are just a few woods that are attractive, at least on a gunstock.
I used to frequent the Archery Headquarters in north El Monte and that guy, (name's Red, all I remember) used laminates on his bows, mostly recurves, with inlays of exotic woods, for appearance, not function. Kind of like the way Weatherby dolled up their Mark V Mesquite stocks with exotic wood inlays.
I actually have a bit of nostalgia for real wood gunstocks. I think the warp issue is overrated unless you live in Juneau? Fiberglass is justified and required in a bench gun but for a lot of the hunting applications, wood still works. And, for all the indoctrination, and paint jobs on composite stocks, you just can't generate the same kind of "hard on" as for a beautifully figured wood stock.
Damn, have we got off subject, or what? So, (as Obama says) "So sue me!"

Actually, maple is often used in the limb laminates between the fiberglass.
I'm not sure where Zebrawood comes from. It makes a good looking riser on a bow, though.

The last bow that I bought a few months ago was a Ben Pearson Mercury Hunter. It actually has (drum roll...................) mercury capsules in the riser that absorb shock. Not the fastest bow I own but a smooth shooter with no hand shock.
