Sorry, but I don't see how this will work..
Other borescopes I've seen allows u to scan the side walls of the barrel.. You twist and see the full 360 degrees..
The ebay device has the lens pointing down the barrel..
Useless?
good luck [ June 10, 2015, 11:33 AM: Message edited by: Fur_n_Dirt ]

Hell; they are all useless. I always agreed with ole Shaun Frame on bore scopes. His analogy was, it's like you owning a proctoscope, and gazing up your ass, what the hell are you going to do, even if you see something suspicious.....hold a mirror and start carving out polyps? If a barrel is fucked, a borescope will do absolutely nothing to help it shoot better. Worse yet, is looking down a good shooting barrel and seeing that it looks like it should be fucked, Ive never understood the fascination with them?

For twelve & change, its an itch imma scratch. And being that the camera is USB interfaced, you can actually take a picture and save it to your computer. At the very least, might be an interesting study in throat erosion? Mark the camera cable for reference so it captures the leade/throat & snap pic every couple hundred rounds?
Dunno. And I pretty much agree with Mr. Vic's sentiments. I prolly won't know what I'm lookin' at, anyway. Just figured for the price of a beer at a Yankee game, I'll fuck around with one. Have read some favorable reviews on another shooting site and was passing this along...

That's just weird! Why do you look up your ass, Vic? Or are you just thinking about it? Also weird.
Shaun Frame. What ever happened to him? We talked a few times, he sure soured on John Henry. I think it was when one of The Coyote God's dogs shit in his boot?
Fred, for the price of a beer at yankee stadium, I'm glad you took the plunge. Because, I do see value in inspecting the condition of my bore.
Why? Because I can make decisions based on what I see....don't know why that needs explaining?
But, I'm not expecting a positive report because I quit believing in Santa and the Tooth Fairy.
Still, get back to us; waiting with baited breath!
Good hunting. El Bee
PS Damn, I don't know about you Victor? You have some weird ideas!

My .17-204 recently just started blowing up bullets, using a borescope( that just looks straight down the barrel) I saw some junk in the freebore are but couldn't tell if it was just fire cracking or carbon built up. Well, I attacked with some Iosso paste and a patch wrapped around brush and some time later checked it again. It looked like some of the junk was gone so I hit it with the Iosso again and the next time i checked it was again. Took the rifle out and lo and behold it was working again. So there you go, a borescope saved me a barrel. (That was an extremely condensed version of the cleaning process, it actually took many long hours of scrubbing.)

^ Well, the above account pretty much supports a useful, practical purpose for a borescope. Not that he couldn't have scrubbed the bore without checking it first, but it gave him a noticeable flaw and the ability to check on progress.
Of course, the investment is substantial and only real rifle nuts would have a valid reason to own one. Especially when we have otherwise knowledgeable people poo pooing borescopes out of hand.
Where I am is; interested, but unsure. Especially about my ability to evaluate what I see. As I understand it, some nasty looking bores still shoot satisfactorily. So, it's back to viewing results on paper, which I have been doing for many years.
Then too. What do you do about it? Just buy another barrel or salvage the one you have by setting the chamber back? Is that worth the gunsmith labor? Who knows?
Good hunting. El Bee

Shaun Frame is another one of the good guys. I occasionally talked with him on the phone. He could be pretty damn funny when he wanted, knowledgeable about guns too, IMO. Hadn't heard from him in several years.

So does shipping take this long or was it not worth mentioning again, Fred?

TR, it literally arrived yesterday @ 3pm...direct from China. Popped in the drive disk and installed it on work computer and the camera lit right up & functions. Haven't stuck it down a barrel, yet...
Stay tuned!

The upload quality of the pic is for shit. Live view on a computer screen is surprisingly clear.
The video capture is very cool! I ran the scope down to the muzzle & back, and it is quite interesting to see where the fouling is, and where it stops...
PS, all my barrels are moly'ed!

So, I said...good enough for the price, and then some.
Next I clicked on the link in the initial post and saw that it's only windows compatible? So, now what?

Leonard, I'm not familiar with Macs at all, but you may be able to download a program that would recognize the USB camera?
Turned this up with a quick search:
Go to Photo Booth on Mac Click: Options Click: Camera Select: USB camera (or PC cam, see photo below)
See if that works?
Anyhoo, there seems to be a couple ways that the camera might work??? [ July 02, 2015, 11:49 AM: Message edited by: knockemdown ]

Based on the computer screen image, I'd say so, TR. Heck, I'd prolly give $20 for it!
FYI, the borescope is 5.5mm dia., therefore will only fit down .224 caliber (or larger) barrels..

that's the real draw back for me. About the only barrels that I'm real curious about the inside of, are .17 cal.
