I just saw Remington has a recall on 700’s made after ’06 with the X-Mark trigger—guess there are issues with accidental discharges . Any of you have a gun of that vintage? If so, are you going to send it back?

Here is a link to the recall:

http://remington.com/pages/news-and-resources/safety-center/safety-warning-recall-notice-Remington-model700-modelseven.aspx

I have an SPS in .17 Rem. FB that I bought in ’09. I haven’t had any issues with the trigger, but I have only ran about 100 rounds down the tube.

Just wondering what everyone’s opinion was.

I had to check my most recent factory M700 which is a VSSF, or something like that? But it has the serrated trigger, not subject to the recall. And, no not really had a problem, except.

I was hunting in southern AZ with Gerald Stewart and somehow had a round go off on stand? I really don't know what happened, may have worked the safety on and off, not sure, but it discharged. I was never asked and never provided an explanation? Couldn't have, if I was asked? Of course, I run my triggers on the light side, maybe about a pound and a quarter, so a lot depends on that critical sear arrangement.

Other than that, nope. But, I saw the ad, too.

Good hunting. El Bee

Booger, I have no information on the recall other than unconfirmed stories about excess amounts of of the clear locktite or epoxy used on the adjustment screws creeping into the inside of the trigger housing. Another unconfirmed source cites the breakage of MIM (cast) parts for no apparent reason other than poor quality. Personally I haven't seen a new Remington rifle for sale in at least 3 months at any gun store or walmart due to the recall.

Built this 6.5SAUM on a 700 and lightened the factory XMark myself, to a respectably crisp ~3lbs. After reading of the recall, it sealed the deal to get a Rifle Basix trigger, same as all my other ones, and be dun wit it...

Even if Remmy guaranteed turnaround in 3days, I couldn't be bothered to pack & ship. Great excuse to upgrade to a better mousetrap, IMHO...

I don't know, Fred? Truthfully, I have never had a bad Remington trigger on a Model 700. I like them, they are easy to dial in, and aside from that one puzzlement, noted above I wouldn't trade one straight across for a RifleBasics. Just personal opinion.

Had an older factory Rem-trigger that was "adjusted" by a local gunsmith. One day, it went BANG when closing the bolt on a round (safely downrange) Added some sear engagement and hit it with nail polish, and it was G2G...

Never had a problem with any of the newer X-Mark versions I messed with, and they do adjust down fine. Just prefer the wider shoe of the R-Basix Varmint triggers. Fits my trigger thumb more better-er.

In the interest of full disclosure, one recent R-Basix trigger came from the factory that needed some adjusting by my 'smith to make safe. They are spec'ed as "factory adjusted", but this one needed some tweaking, both in pull weight and sear...
