Wanted to get the more learned member’s opinions on barrel break in.
When I got my DTech AR, I followed the break in procedure to the letter, and the gun shoots very well. I am not sure that is the main reason it shoots that good, but I don’t know enough to speak intelligently about it.
What is your break in procedure if any? Is it necessary?
My inquiring mind would like to know!

This guys method will produce the same results as anything else you glean from the net...maybe a bit rough on the rifle, but saves barrel life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRRahHX9Zkg

That video I find offensive and not funny. However, I get the message, barrel break in is possibly a waste of time. And, unprovable.

I didn't click on the link but I bet that's Stick's cow barrel, pretty funny to me.
I've never subscribed to the theory myself and Noveske sends a letter stating their barrels are ready to be shot so don't ruin them with a cleaning rod.

Oh yeah, Booger!
I shoot about 10-20rds of nekked bullets from a new barrel. Then, clean the shit outta the barrel. til its squeeky clean. Then, run a moly greased patch up & down the bore about 10x, followed by two clean patches to remove excess. Then, run moly boolits & live happily ever after...

I'm probably not much help. Here's what I do.
After taking a new rifle home, or used for that matter. I clean the shit out of it.
After getting on paper @ 100 yards usually 5-7 shots. I clean, and then every 15 rounds while working up a load.
I do fire a fouler or two after cleaning. It seems to work for me. If, I find a good shooting load @ say 15 rounds, maybe it's 50 ? I quit.
Clean and shoot a fouler or two, retest. If all looks good. I'm done then clean whenever I think about it, or figure it needs done. [ April 15, 2014, 04:47 PM: Message edited by: Dave Allen ]
