I've given up on Dead Coyote 3 1/2" magnums. I found the 3" Federal BB Coyote load with the flitecontrol wad does an excellent job of holding tight patterns with a modified choke. The owner of my favorite gun store told me about them. He was at a dealer fair where he actually saw how well it works in a Bennelli with a modified choke. Can't wait to try them out.

I still have almost a full box of dead coyote. Seems to pattern okay and what few kills I've had, i just can't justifiy the cost. I'm far from a titewad about hunting stuff, but when #4buck works just as well (for me) then it starts to look like BFD. I just don't see how they can charge so much for friggin shotgun shells? LB. edit: another thing about this new Federal shell; in my opinion, BB's are 30 yard. [ November 04, 2013, 09:44 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

This Federal Load: http://www.shootingtimes.com/2011/01/04/ammunition_st_coyoteloads_200909/
uses heavy shot that is manufactured to be extremely round. This denser shot and uniform surface should increase the effective range over regular lead. I don't use a shotgun enough to be concerned with the price. I have used #4 with great success in my Remington but it doesn't pattern well in my bennelli.

You may be right. But my reservations concern the cross section of a BB size pellet, not the mass or energy. Olay, maybe roundness contributes to extended distance, but the foot/ pounds still seem not so lethal? Like, a 17 needs a lot more speed to be equal to a 22 Hornet. Anyway, I also am not a big consumer of shotshells, but i have a hundred dollars worth of it rattling around in the back of the truck, most of the time. When they ban my lead #4s, I will get serious about alternatives. L
