Question for the law men on HM. Since it is too hot and windy to do anything but reload and I am about tired of waiting on powder to fall down the neck of 204 brass.
The other day as I left the house to go pick up a new 1911, I noticed the tail rotor of a black helo sticking out from the trees. Sneaky rascals… As always I changed vehicles twice, ditched the ride and slipped in the backdoor of the gun shop. They did the paper work and I paid for the pistol all legal like.
My question is what will most law officers do if and when they are ordered to come get my new 1911 and my AR’s along with everyone else that is on the books? I acknowledge there is a us and them mentality.
I assume before that happens there would be some sort of federal mandate requiring all folks to turn em in, and if they didn’t they would be suspected felons overnight.
What % of the GT crew will stay them.
Kelly

PS - bck to reloading...got to be ready...Zombies and all.

I have to say, that when push comes to shove, most, if not all of those guys used to following orders every day will continue to do so. I would not count on police to refuse unlawful orders. They will take you down or subdue you just like you were a mass murderer.

If records show that you have purchased 6 "weapons" and they can only find five in their search, you will be arrested. Hey, I thought they were supposed to destroy those applications? Dream on!

Anyway, if you are a holdout, you will be SWATTED. Anybody that doesn't march down to headquarters and stand in line, or doesn't have the fee required for processing your weapons into melted iron will be dealt with swiftly and severely.

edit: reference Australia for history

edit: congrats on the 1911, I am far from a Glock fan

Glock fan here. I am hoping to pick up a 10mm by the end of the year.

KJ, this question has come up more than a few times over on glocktalk, in the coptalk forum especially. While no one will admit on a gun forum that they would seize weapons, there would be some that no doubt would. However, my opinion is that there are plenty of cops out there who are in favor of people owning guns. Plenty of hunters, shooters, etc.

Lt: "Where are all the guns 49?"

49: "I don't know sir, they must have sold them all."

See all this stuff I am spewing out and LB won't budge on his opinion of cops. I QUITE.

I am with 49, most would not go there and participate. ONE major problem, they just don't have the manpower to start such an endeavor even if ALL the cops came together.

Oh there would be a small team or two. Problem is it would take them for ever to complete the task at hand.

WE out number to poor cops 50 to 1. The military would have to step in to get the door to door stuff done in a fairly short time.

Two hundred plus years of folks owning guns, it's going to take sometime to figure out where they are or WHERE they went.

I have a glock 23, love it!!!

I guess all the fuzz around here likes plastic toys. I like a good trigger so I'll pass on the "accidental discharge leaders of the world" for my 1911's.

I bought a Glock about a year ago. The typical turn-in type, minus the jelly donuts and powder sugar stains. [Smile]

I was never a fan of them, but after shooting a few, I got it. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger, holds a bunch of cartridges, and is reasonably accurate. Mainly my open carry piece out west.

I still like my 1911's and my Sig, but it'll do.

I must have missed it, did someone badmouth "Cops"?

I'm an equal opportunity offender. I have a Glock and 1911's.

As for the question at hand...with what I have, the dang cops would be comin' for me.

Technically, I'm not required to obey an unlawful order, and I am required to obey a lawful one. But I am not required to be a cop. So if I am issued orders that my conscience won't allow me to obey, then I'll give them back their badge and hit the trail. After that, it's game on. I'm too old a dog to kiss people's asses or do shit that I don't want to do.

Ken I asked Cal years ago what he was shooting, he said a 35gr Berger, can't remember the powder, but I am loading 28.0 grs of H4895 and the 35gr Berger. Works real good on cats and good on coyotes if you pick your shots.

edit to add - what I mean by picking you shot is don't expect to kill the 2nd coyote with a ass shot as it heads for the brush.

I asked our former police chief that very question Kelly. He is a friend of mine (see 49, I like some cops) He said he would resign before issuing the order and promptly lose all of his in a boating accident.

I can't say the same for the current chief.

1911's I've never shot one that didn't jam at some point and time. I've had a Glock 32(?) 357 SIG and now favor the S&W M&P9MM. I shoot it well enough...

Naw, Ken. I'm just independent as hell.
Example at hand..you and 49 have Glock 23's but nooooooo, not me. I'm the exact opposite - literally. I have a Glock 32. See? Everybody else is marching in lockstep and I'm amblin' off on my own. I think that I actually may clinically be 'weird'. I had a shrink laugh at me one time and tell me that I have a 'unique personality'. (I kinda thought we all had unique personalities, but hey, he's the cat with the degree. Maybe I'm just uniquer ?? [Big Grin] )

Well, it looks like Tom and I are on the same page, anyway. I haven't done much with the 357 Sig cartridge, but anything that throws out a 125 JHP around 1300 f.p.s. can't be all bad.

Del you do strike me as the independent type. When we first met here, I pictured you as an undercover guy, with a long beard, wearing an army shirt. Now what was that guy's name in Hill Street Blues?

I have a Glock 22, a Glock 27, and Glock 19 in addition to the 23. I also own two 1911's (Colt Combat Commanders), a Makarov pistol, S&W 6904, Ruger LCP, S&W 629 6.5 inch, and my duty weapon is a Sig P228.I think that's it as far as handguns go. Oh yeah, a Walther p22 also.

If I can help it, I won't ever own a Glock. I have had a very few stove pipes in 45ACP but never something I would call a "jamb"? I always attributed it to particular handloads because I never had a failure with factory hardball?

At one time Sigs had a rep for being picky about the ammo they liked. My old 1911, bought in 1978, works just fine. I gotta say that my H & K USP 45 is the absolutely most reliable freakin auto I have ever owned. It's my duty gun. Since our agency recently authorized us to carry Glocks, I'm leanin' towards pickin up a few for off-duty apps. I don't much care what a pistol looks like..the main criteria are reliability and accuracy. Low maintenance is also a plus. Everything else is negotiable.

I'm not a Glaser fan, but that's just me. The only app I see for a Glaser might be on a plane. Other than that, I want my bullets to penetrate (adequately). But like I said, that's just me. I'm not meaning any disrespect on your choice, Leonard. If you like it and think it's right for you, then run with it. I would only trust Glaser in the chamber, or in a revolver. I don't think they feed reliably out of magazines. I take it that's why you carry them that way Leonard?

If I recall, Glaser rounds did well at those Strasbourg goat tests they did years ago. As Del says, they were designed for fragmentation, and not penetration. I would carry one up the pipe in my LCP, but we are restricted to conventional hollowpoints by SOP. Gotta stay within the regs..

Del Gue comes from 'Jeremiah Johnson'. He's the guy Jeremiah finds buried up to his neck in the desert. I kinda groove on him because I thought the last time he rode off from Jeremiah and was talking bout how superbad he was and how great the Rockies were, in my mind that seemed like a prime example of the spirit of the mountain men, and pretty much sums up my view of the Rockies as well.

Cdog, if I get pissed I can get the Don Rickles smartass mouth going on real good.

Possumal, I don't party that often, but when I do, I party with a vengeance! Besides, I like to laugh and have fun.

I was just remembering how freakin Belker used to growl when he was arresting people. Remember that??!! Like he was a rabid dog!! He was a wildman!!!

I'll admit to not firing that many 1911's but the ones I have fired weren't cheap. One was a Kimber, stove piped on me. (to me if it goes click it's a jam and worthless). A good friend of mine handed me my first one to shoot, it was a nice custom that stove piped the first shell I shot, found out later the oil had turned to crud. I have shot a few STI's but in 9mm and with J-points on them, pretty slick and ran like a top so maybe I need to try a few more 1911's.

Del, my Glock 32 was fun but the shells are prone to bullet setback if you rechamber them.

A Sig 228 as a duty weapon, now there's some folks that have it going on! That's my favorite Sig. If you have to go get Del, pick me up on the way, we gotta keep him around just to see what he does next.

Mr Gue, you ain't right. Consider that my final word on the matter. Bet you're a hoot around the campfire though.

I've always been a revolver type, hell, mostly a rifle type. We all make up for our shortcomings in our own way. As the climate here (not the hot part) changed, I decided I'd best get current on my handgun ownership so I could pack one around when I choose to. I jonesed mightily for a Kimber, but when it came time to write the check I went with a Springfield XD45C. Not very handsome, but I think they were everybody's award winner for about 5 years in a row. And it holds 13+1. Yeah, I know it's the first one that counts, but remember what I said about being a rifle guy. I put a Crimson Trace on that bad boy, and if it's dark, the bad guy might be in trouble.

As to the original topic... they'll do it slow and sneaky, singling out a small percentage at a time. Even still, I just don't see how it's possible in this country, 'course I thought electing the HNIC wasn't possible either. If they come to my house, I'm gonna go Charlton Heston on 'em. I ain't got much to live for anyway.

edit:
Had to fix Mr Heston's name.

Dave, no prob. 'Jeremiah Johnson' is one of my all-time faves. Wicked good flick.

Tom, I don't mess with it that much. Just load it up and carry it. The bottlenecked case is said to promote reliable feeding. The other advantage that I see is that you can buy a spare barrel for it in .40 S & W and you have a 2 caliber gun. Something to be said for that. As for bullet setback, that can be a problem in a lot of venues. I'm normally a medium to large caliber kinda guy. This is my first sojourn into small but fast, at least in a pistol. I needed an off-duty gun and my original plan for a H & K Compact got torpedoed by economics and finding one in a Variant 2 config. So I tried the Glock in the 357. Time will tell how the experiment works.

Old Del Gue tickled hell out of me when he asked Jeremiah if he happened to have an extra hat, and that shade was a bit scarce around there. It was surely a classic western, beautiful scenery.

I am/was a 1911 fan(until I sold every firearm I own).

Tom, I have seen the same problem with some of the custom/tighter 1911's. I have an older springfield that 'rattles' a little. It always feeds and goes bang. It has stove piped a few times when it was really dirty.

I don't know why people do all this accurizing anyway. A pistol is only good to fight your way back to the rifle you dropped.

I used to have 2 shells around here that were setback but I trashed em a few weeks ago. I just used to unchamber when I put it in the safe at night. I started chambering them no more than 2 or 3 times then I'd shoot em. Never had that happen on a 9MM or a 45 (Sig 220).

Jim I count on all 17 of mine just as much as the first one. A good 115 gr HP doing 1279fps is a beautiful thing, all 17 times.

Geordie, that makes sense on the target models.

But as much as I'd like to have one of my AR's in my hands when needed, I've come to realize a pistol will be easier to conceal and won't scare the natives on main street. So I've taken a harder look at the pistols...

Posted by DEL GUE (Member # 1526) on June 08, 2011, 08:21 PM:

Possumal, how about when Jeremiah first comes up on him and asks him if he's alright, and Del Gue says, "Sure, sure. I've got a fine horse under me." Too funny. And Jeremiah asks, "Injuns put you here?" and Del Gue says, "T'weren't Mormons!"

That argument has been made about the AR vs the AK. One tight and accurate, some say not as reliable, the other loose but always works, but cruder sights and not as accurate. Rule 1: the damn thing must work. Accuracy in a gun that doesn't work is useless.

On the battlefield, I agree that the rifle is king. In the city, I have to agree with Tom. The pistol is the practical weapon.

Tom,
The guns I load stay loaded. But I've always lived around adults or alone, so I never had to worry about kids or nothin. My Glock, Smith 4006, and duty gun stay loaded in my bedroom. I have a loaded .357 Mag by my 'puter. My SKS has a full mag but an empty chamber, and I usually have a 12 gauge in the same condition, both in my bedroom. At this particular instant my Vaquero and CZ 52 are also loaded. About the only pistols I don't keep loaded are my .22's and my Redhawk. That prolly explains why I don't have probs with bullet setback too much, although I have seen it a time or two in .45 ammo back in the day. I don't see it as any everyday or prevalent problem.

Long ago I was an absolute die hard 1911 fan, Ive owned a dozen or more, most with some manner of customizing, which was mandatory at one time if you bought a Colt. The only stone reliable, highly accurate 1911 Ive ever had was a Wilson Supergrade, which I purchased in 1988 for competition, and broke my piggy bank to boot, that piece stripped twenty-six hundred seventy-eight dollars from my pocket. It took me to many a championship, but in a half dozen years was simply obsolete for competition.
A few years later I turned to revolvers and have never looked back. The only auto pistols I have now are Glocks, which I used to despise, an attitude many guys have, most of which were like me, they haven't used one much.
If I had a table before me with a dozen different flavors and makes of high dollar 1911s, and a glock, and I had to pick one up "now", and bet my life on the pistol I snatched was going to go bang every time, I'd wrap my mitts around the Glock.

I started out that way, too. But I grew up reading Jeff Cooper, back when it was 45 vs wonder9. The day I bought my 45 it was a choice between it and a Hi-Power. And I had to have some rudimentary customization done to my 1911, since I shoot lefty.

I still have no qualms about using a 1911, but my agency doesn't approve them, which doesn't promote me carrying one, and the polymer frame jobs are lighter and carry more rounds.

I have the Glock. I'll prolly get another, but the XD's and the S & W M & P's get good reviews, too. I'm more likely to buy autos than revolvers these days, with the exception being I'd like to get one or two U.S.F.A. single actions some time. Every time I read a 'Longarm' western novel I wanna reach for a single action. [Smile]

CrossJ,
Based on the coyote count he was puttin' up during the Foxpro contest a few years back, I take what he says pretty much like it came straight from the burnin' bush. [Wink]

Think about it. first they will go after some "fringe group guns" then the "Nazi"guns, then "drug dealer" guns, then "Biker " guns, mid night raids, the "other guy". at what point will YOU fire back?
Some Cops will not do it, but when will they stop? The boss will say it is a crime scene, a dope dealer, a commie rat, a darn faggot, when will the Army guys stop?
Will there be enough 'fighters' left alive, when we understand we are in a war?
I doubt it.
Carl

LOL Vic. Sorry, just couldn't help it. Truthfully, when it comes to firearms and card tricks, I value your opinion.(Criners still scratching his head)

Personally Vic, I'm venting. Generally I just pack it around inside me. It's kinda refreshing to share doom and gloom with other humans.

Don't let the skeeters strip ya down to the bone!

One other point that I forgot about, Rust.

When you carry concealed in the center of the universe, you will sweat and rust those fancy 1911's, Sigs and anything else that doesn't have a good coating on it. SS rusts too, trust me.

That was a strong reason I went to the Glock. The M&P is just as rust resistant and as reliable but points better for me than an unaltered Glock.

Since we're talking doom and gloom, anyone else carry a get home bag in the truck? [Wink]

Tom, I don't have a get home bag in my truck, but I do have a bailout bag in my patrol car.

The Sig 228 is a smooth shooter. I am gonna take my son shooting on father's day, and I am gonna go with my Colt XSE Commander. But soon after I will be running some more rounds through the 228.

I will pick you up on the way to get Del out of
Tijuana, by the way. I knew I could count on you. We can argue cop stuff all the way down. [Big Grin]

Glocks....yeah, they don't rust much, if at all. There was another torture test done on a Glock 21. I will see if I can find it.
I carried my G27 for years with no rust. Carried the LCP for a year and got rust spots on the barrel hood. I had my .40 G22 out on the range one day, and amazed my recruit by hitting clumps of dirt out to 200 yards with it. Big SWAT guy and he didn't know you could do that with a Glock. Lol..

I rusted a stainless Sig 230 and a non K coated Sig 228, a stainless Berretta 21, a CZ 75D and probably a few more. But the Glock and M&P never showed any sign.

As for unchambering, I made it a point to wipe down my pistols after being carried to ward off the rust and unloading them just seemed like the right thing to do.

What the fuck is this, Glock Talk? I'm sorry, not impressed.

But, I got my scope tricked out today. Next stop some handloads and a trip to the range.

Festus, I carry IWB. I need to find a good holster with a vapor barrier but haven't yet.

Leonard did you get to see any of the calendar gals?!?!?!?!

The scope is a U.S. Optics SN3.

I was very impressed with the service I got. They have a collimator like you never saw before. They turned down every mounting screw special, on a lathe. Dialed in a 20° base and set it up for 100 yard zero, still plenty of adjustment for elevation. Blue locktite, installed the coolest level you ever saw, with a cover that screws on the opposite side when you need to use it. Man, those rings are beefy! Front and rear rings are adjustable for windage which is different. Throw in free scope caps, and a tee shirt and I was out of there in an hour and a half. It's on a Picatinny rail, which I have never used before.

Now, I just need to work up a few loads and this should be a decent coyote rifle.

edit: the only chick I saw was the blonde, Becky. She looks about 4 months pregnant

They do a calenar shoot and one of the models named Maegan(?) used to get on another forum and tease the boys.

Not a bad looking chic till somebody tatooed up her entire side from almost head to toe. Thought you'd get a kick out of her for sure.

Windage adjustable rings? First I've heard of them on a tactical rig and before you start, USO builds tactical stuff for tactical rifles. [Big Grin]

Man, I saw one on the shelf, ready to be packed and shipped. I'm not kidding, it was at least 2½ feet long and the objective must have been 80mm? The guy told me it was about 7 thousand and meant for big 50's. The turrets were about the size of a D cell battery. I might put one of those bad boys on my 243Ackley.
