Since we can't use supressors up here in the barrens of Canada, I have a question for you U.S. guys. How many of you use them ( or have tried them) when hunting coyotes? Does the sound reduction help you in taking more animals? I just thought I'd throw out the question and see your guys opinions?

After a full season with suppressed, I certainly do beleive it has helped me kill more. With that said, there are certainly times that coyotes react as if a cannon went off near by.
Biggest reason to go suppressed is that a suppressor is cheaper than a good set of hearing aids.......at least that's what I told my wife.

Neither Mjolnir, my shotgun or Gungnir, my rifle are suppressed yet it seems like every year I have a stand or two where I shoot a coyote, keep calling, and a few minutes later have another one come in.
I'm not sure if it would happen more often or not with suppressors but I am fairly sure that owning a suppressor would put a gold star next to your name on some government list. For my own self, it's not worth the cost & hassle. For others hunting close to town or among livestock a suppressor probably couldn't hurt.

Now, about that ringing in my ears.............

I don't think owning a suppressor puts a gold star next to my name any faster than owning an AR, or two, since there's not been a high profile shooting that involved a suppressor. At this point it seems that if you own a gun, you're in the cross hairs of this government.

I've notice a black helicopter flying over the house on occasion, shoud I be worried? [Eek!]

If I were to order several cases of ammo. off the net, that might earn me a door knock?

From what I have seen with supersonic ammo, it's hard to tell where the shot came from. That might be a benefit and cause a critter to run towards you instead of away. I'd not consider hunting with subsonic ammo.

That's why I went with a 22lr suppressor. I always thought the more gold stars the better. Of course I'm still waiting only stamp.

I wouldn't worry to much about the black heliocopter when it lands in your front yard.
But...........when Di-Fi gets out wearing a black leather teddy, carrying handcuffs & a whip; THEN I'd worry!!!! [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]

I have used them on/off for a couple years-used one on 2 today as a matter of fact. [Smile]
For me the verdict is still out as to whether or not it confuses them.At times it seems so,others not.Overall I think it helps but I sure wouldn't buy one for that reason.I do know it's sweet on hearing and flinching though. And,I know Bearhunter likes the noise level when he's near and I touch one off.
