Magnum research is a company in Mn. well known for its Desert Eagle hand gun and also a few other guns they make.. They also make a clone of the Ruger 10/22, 10/22 mag. and the 10/17 HMR.. A few years back I bought a 10/17 HMR from them and also one from Rem a model 596 in 17 HMR.. A year or so ago they had a recall of the 17 HMR auto rifles both Magnum and Rem. due to the 17 HMR ammo being unsafe to use in the semi-auto rifles. The brass case is to weak around the rim and will cause a blow-out which will blow the mag. out of the stock and gas and particals back at the shooter. I had it happen so I stopped useing both of mine waiting to see what both companies was going to do about it.. Rem. said they will take the gun back and give you a 200.00 voucer to be used for another Rem. purchase. (paid little over 400.00 new)
Magnum research said they would take the rifle in and replace the HMR barrel with a 22-mag. barrel of the same contour and also inspect and replace any faulty mag.s at no cost to the owner of the rifle.. I sent mine off for the new barrel a few days before Christ-mas and just got it back today. They replaced the barrel with a 22 mag. barrel and replaced all the working parts in the bolt area (springs, extractor, bolt handle ect.) and also found a crack in one of the magizines and replaced it with a new one. ( must of been the one in the gun when it blew).. So anyway I thought that was pretty dam good of them and thought others should know about there good service.. I'm takeing it out tommorrow to see how it shoots..

I know at one time Rem. was changing out the 17 parts to 22 mag also.
Good to hear they took care of you Tim. Let me know how it shoots I am looking at getting one. [ January 13, 2012, 08:16 AM: Message edited by: jwelk ]

Tim, That's good they took care of you. If you get a chance to shoot the rifle in the really cold weather, like -20 and colder, let me know how it cycles. Ruger, Marlin, and any other semi-auto .22 mag I've tried to use in the cold fail to cycle correctly (even after the de-grease jobs). Thanks

I got the scope on and sited it in a tried some CCI ammo along with one type of Hornady ammo.. I like Win. the best but the stores in town don't stock it so I have to make a trip one of these days to get some. From useing it in other guns it always seemed to group the best over other brands..
Anyway here is a test target I shot useing just a set of bi-pods on the front with just my hand for rear rest. Once I get some Win. ammo then I'll set up the table with front rest and rear sand bag.
For a 22-mag. in semi-auto I think its going to be a good shooter for what I intend to use it for. As for testing it in cold temps best I can come up with is -5- +5 but I don't plan on hunting up in the Artic so I'm not too worried about how its going to function.. For those cold temp.s -20 you may need a auto thats a little on the warn side and have all the oil removed from all parts and perhaps have all the parts polished and also wipe the ammo down.. The AR's seem to function ok up that way so I think the 10/22 will work as well... [ April 11, 2012, 09:22 PM: Message edited by: TA17Rem ]

My AR's do alright when all oil is Brake-Kleened off of them, but the 22's just don't want to get to the next round. I've eyed the Mag. Research 22 mag's in town, but can't get anybody at the stores to give a nod on cold weather functionality. Oh well....I'll stick with the bolt machines, they're the most reliable when it really counts. Enjoy the new toy, nice telescope on that piece.

I put a 4X scope on the 22 mag. and also picked up a box of Rem 22 mag. shells to try out.. The Hornadys give good accurcy but tend to drift more plus they have a plastic tip so I'm not going to continue useing them. At the moument CCI and Rem. shoot a nice round group and hit pretty close to the same point of aim so I will settle on them till I get around to getting some Win shells to test.. The trigger also functions very well so I have no plans to replace it...
