Well, it's official!
My oldest just graduated high school and today was her 18th birthday... I promised her she could pick any rifle in the safe when she turned of age, so today she picked "her" rifle!
I thought she might pick a Dan Dowling custom bench gun in .223Rem... NO!
Or maybe a Dan Dowling custom in .222(I actually bought this action for her back in 2004). Special thanks to Fred(Knockemdown)for helping with the bottom metal!
Again, NO! She wanted my Ruger KM77VTM22 in .22PPC... OK!
It's now hers! We plan to go shoot it this weekend if it's not raining. This is the gun she used to win the GoGoVarmint Egg Shoot when she was 12... she can really shoot!
(That's not me with Katie, it's Fred? from GoGoVarmint.)
Yep, I'm a very lucky and proud Dad!

You have a beautiful daughter, you have every reason too be proud of her, plus she likes guns !
Mine just finished her sophomore year in HS yesterday..I'm just glad I have her for at least two more years.

Very nice, niko. To date, I was never able to interest my wife, daughter, or any of my three granddaughters in shooting. I was never pushy, maybe I could have been a little more encouraging, but nope, none of them had the slightest interest.
I don't know what it says about me, but there is something about a female with a firearm that turns me on.
Niko, what is that stock in the first pic? I have the same one, I think it is called a T (something that starts with a T) something like that?

Leonard, I'm in the same boat, after almost 20 years of being married, I can't get either one into shooting, ect..My wife and daughter are totally girly-girl, Thats ok though ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Katie has a younger sister that likes to shoot also. Both are great kids despite their mother's influence...
Emily will be starting HS and Katie just received a four year, full ride scholarship to study Architectural Design and Engineering Technology/CAD/Drafting. She will be minoring in Ballet/Vocal/Theater... she's pretty amazing!
Katie has been dating the same guy for quite a while now. He stands 6Ft5in tall and is a great guy so I'm not too worried! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Okay, thanks, niko. I can never remember that name! I was going to say, "Thule" glad I didn't, but it is an excellent stock for that application. As I recall, it cost me almost $500! Stuff for shooting is getting out of sight. Hodgdons surplus powder I used to get for less than $2 is now about $25, like that.

Nikon, congrats on your daughter receiving a full-ride scholarship. That is really accomplishing something! Great picture of a gal who obviously has it together
Dave A. I hope you have the ability to put the fear of God into any teenage boys snooping around because from the looks of your daughter they will be!
I remember my dad telling a teenage boy who was trying to put the moves on my then 15-year-old-sister, "You have to remember I'm an old cowboy and know how to castrate a bull calf, you shouldn't be much different." Dad said it mostly joking, but I think the lad got the message.

Well, in my day, I was (what's the word?) persistent? If they weren't gonna offer, well, you have to take the initiative. We've all been teenagers, at one time, right?
I will never forget one night, I brought a girl home late. I expected some kind of action at the front door, do I have to draw you a picture?
Just as things started getting interesting......
much to my surprise, the girl's father, who had been sitting in his car out front, and saw everything, got out and surprised the hell out of me. GULP!
Now, that was one sneaky bastard! That knowledge came in handy later.

Leonard, sitting in the car waiting, I'll take that advice and employ later on I'm sure.
It's kinda funny though Ashley went thru drivers education about 13 months ago, and has had her license for several months now.
We enrolled her thru a private company that cost about $300 bucks, because the program thru the school system, which is free had a waiting list about a mile long, thus with the waiting list and parents not wanting or being able ? to afford the cost of a private entity, resulted in her being able to drive before lots of other kids, plus too be fair some just recently turned 16..
The result is she's taking boys on dates, man I didn't see that one coming, talk about role reversal !
(Edit) she's a petite little thing,5'1 or 5'2 and goes about a buck 10, but fiesty..

Dave, nothing has changed since my daughter was in high school, in the 80's. For the same reasons, we had to pay for private instruction, not cheap, as I recall?
Another thing. Those black rimmed glasses are sexy. What does that say about me?
Around here, it is very difficult to get a kid licensed before they are 18, with the insurance preceding the license and parents being actually responsible financially until they are 25.

It's all good, I think it gives her a "Distinguished" maybe even "Intellectual" look.
She's a popular girl, and worries about those glasses, unfortunately, she gets her bad eyesite from me. I started wearing glasses about the age of twelve, just like her. I moved on into contacts at about twenty years of age, now that I'm 47 I also use 1.25 power reading glasses, to read or use when viewing the net..
We've been down twice the last two years trying to get her into contacts, just ain't worked out yet. I really believe it does give her a unique look though, and she should keep "em for awhile

All of those young ladies are attractive. It's all or mostly about how you raise your daughters(and sons)that make them what they are morally.
Dave, I have a feeling your daughter will be just fine in that regard! Both of my girls are very feisty, damn near mean when they get ticked off! ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)
And, I think I mentioned both like to shoot! I don't think you would want to be within 500yds if either really wanted to take you out...

Niko,Tom..Regarding raising our daughters, we both have a ways to go..
That being said I'm glad we both have "fiesty" ones.
I've seen Ash' get up in the "grille" (sp) ? of more than a few kids, Including boys, she's very compassionate and friendly, yet doesn't back down or take shit..
She gets that from her mother...

The best story I ever heard of handling a young lady's suitors involved Glenn Beck telling of the night his daughter went to prom with this young man. Quite by design, he had his good friend, Marcus Letrell, Navy Seal and author of Sole Survivor, there at the house when the lad showed up. Glenn and Marcus looked the boy up and down before Marcus quietly, calmly, and succeintly told the boy, "Whatever happens to her, happens to you."
At last report, there have been no problems.

My oldest is 21 now but for years my house looked like the pic Dave posted, we sort of fell into the role of providing a safe fun place for her and her friends,my wife and I still see those girls to this day and some are married with kids, they still give me a hug and call me dad and talk about life. Good kids.
Lance, that's a good story......I only had one problem with a boy.......he wouldn't leave her and her friends alone, wouldn't take no for an answer when he would bother these girls about dating....My daughter is very kind hearted and tried to be nice to this guy but in the end the girls were a little afraid of him....I convinced him to take no for an answer........I went to the Y to lift weights a few months ago and who do you suppose was working the desk......he still remembers me after 5 years, judging by the fear in his eyes. lol
I still have an 11 year old and man is she a wild one......pray for me. lol

Nice looking families ya'll got.
I reared two boys. I never had the pleasure of intimidating a young boy coming to my house. My Dad takes the prize for the best one I have ever heard of.
I was about 16-17. I saw my Dad backing down the drive shortly after dark and that meant only one thing, A deer had to be dressed.. I headed out the door to get it done but he stopped me and said wait. Thats strange. He came in, had coffee and waited. My sis was in her room getting ready for a date. About 15 minutes before the kid showed up he went out and strung the deer up on the singletree. Still would not put a knife to it.
I see the date drive up and his headlights hit us at the skinning pole. He gets out and heads down to look at the deer. Pretty good buck. He begins to brag on my Dad's deer, earning brownie points. Then he asked the fatal question.
Mr. Reeves, that is a good buck. I never can seem to kill one that good. Mine are allways the smaller ones.
My Dad, in his slow deliberate way says, "Well Son, killing big bucks is not hard when you know their habits. Ya see, a big buck is like a young boy. He gets a girl on his brain, and begins to thing about getting some, he gets careless. When he gets careless, I catch him" At this point he turns to the buck and cuts his nads off with the knife he had in his hand, tosses them to the dogs and looks back at the kid. The boy turns a pasty color and says he is going in the house.
