I have a Colt A1 old style triangle, etc.
I have acquired an A4 upper 1-7 with picatinny quad rails. I would like to use it with the Colt lower, however there is the small problem of the hinge pin.
So, is it okay to drill the new upper to the correct size, OR do they make a takedown pin that has a shoulder so I don't have to alter the hole?
Or was the purpose of changing the hole diameter to prevent people from doing what I want to do?
So, if I were to drill it out, or use an adjustable precision reamer, there is no going back, but I don't care about that.
Anybody out there use these machine guns? Free advice, anybody?
Is there a link where an adapter pin might be available?
Good hunting. LB [ October 05, 2010, 02:51 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

The pins are available and I would never machine an upper to fit a Colt lower. Try Midway, if you have a problem locating one let me know.

Yeah, I see that now, the holes don't even line up. Somebody said Brownells might have an adapter that solves the whole problem.
I'll see what Midway has, I didn't think of them, for some reason? Apparently, this is a fairly common situation. I don't know much about this stuff, I admit it.
But, I wouldn't mind having a rig all set to go, when the balloon goes up, etc. Can't see a legit hunting application? lol

Colt makes one that has a flat side on the head to prevent it from turning when opening it up. They can be put in a bind and possibly break with the dpms type pins if you're not careful.
SAW sales has the Colt version part number SPK63272 (I think) phone # 480-940-7397 [ October 05, 2010, 04:16 PM: Message edited by: TOM64 ]

Apparently there are several pins that solve the problem? I have not decided which one yet.
But, there is no denying the sex appeal . Especially with all these rails for attaching all kinds of gear, lasers, $100 flashlights, this came with a C-more holographic site. I see why some people use them for hunting, aside from the constant hard on......probably sleep with it, too? Bwahahaha!
Forgive me, Lord and be with those starving pigmies.

I'm jealous! And, disappointed, but wish you well. Kill a bunch. But. Don't run out of ammo.
Hey, I heard from Sage Brush this morning. He doesn't like anything about HM. (for some reason?) Almost made me cry. Raining here, this morning and I'm all depressed because of him. What can we do to meet with his approval? <sniff, sniff>

I need to clear up something. My initial post, I suggested that I might be able to drill out a smaller pin.
Well, that was before I even looked at the two pieces put together, but without the pin in place.
It didn't take much of an inspection to see that that was not a solution, at all? For the life of me, I don't know why the two parts were not designed to line up, but they don't, and drilling them is ill advised. This upper needs sort of an eccentric pin and nothing else will do. I'm very aware of these mechanical things, (I actually know how to use an engine lathe and a Bridgeport mill) but I shouldn't have suggested something before looking at it. Makes me look more stupid than everybody thinks I am, already.

I think you grasp the difficulty, Chile. Possibly?
The restrictions on machine guns, here are tight, one step beyond even nuclear missiles. Unless you are a foreign agent, but a citizen can't buy a paintball gun without a waiting period, I've been told?
PS Quit picking on me!

You'll be restricted to the Kali version of course, no magazine release (clip release) for the neophytes, no bayonet lugs...all that para military shit. The upshot is, you can happily wear your white tennies (mexican wrassler shoes) while out hunting, and look so....well, california:)

Excuse me, but wasn't there a forum specifically dedicated to all this machine gun/tacticool stuff?

Thank you, Geordie. We really need a policeman for the AR forum since I yanked the rug out from under ol' Tom. Some guys just can't handle all that power, prestige and authority. Like Dan or Berry, ya know?
Good luck. I will have to change your custom title....nobody but me and you understood it anyway.

To answer a question, Why did they build it like that?
That was done back when the state of Conneticut owned part of Colt as they were in financial trouble due to piss poor management. It kept anyone from sticking a FA upper on that lower and the block kept the FA carrier out of there so no drop in auto sear could work.
All to keep you safe.
Things is different now, Colt has gone back to small pins including the trigger pins and run FA carriers. They just have a web built in for a block, so still can't run a RDIAS without mods.

Ooops, Leonard I forgot where you are stationed. Sorry Dan, I'm going to follow my own advice, sell my AR and upgrade to one of yours. I'll send an email this evening.

Good thinking..
That's what LB should do also, if he can afford it. I heard from a very reliable source he has big bucks stashed under the mattress.

Shit, I already have about twenty-five rifles that get very limited use. This is just something to stack up behind the door. It must be good for at least that much, and how much better would Dan's thriller stand in the corner?
Good hunting. LB
Yeah, exactly! I don't have a job and no, I can't afford a thriller.
