Mostly for Dave, 6MM 284 stuff.
I don't think it's going to be fur friendly. I'm not sure where I'm going velocity wise, I am showing zero pressure signs so far. 
This is with a 68 grain Berger.
5 shot group at 100 yds.

Nice rig you have there Cal. What bullet are you using to get the 3980 velocity?

I looked again and noticed that you had posted the bullet weight already. I must be going blind.
Wow, 3980 with a 68 grainer! Looks like you have a real winner there.

6mm 284 Albert.
284 Win necked down to 6mm.
Remington 700 action and a 27" Krieger (sp?) barrel with a Vias muzzle brake which is totally un called for but it is nice for shooting groups.

Holy Mole!
A 68 grainer at damn near 4000!
Damn impressive..at least to me.
Barrels at tad long for me but looks great.
I would sell my soul for a bolt action rifle with a 22" barrel that pushes 80 gr Scirrocos at 3980.
Excellent accuracy too

Nice! Mine is going to be a little bit shorter, 25", so that I can still swing it around in the cab of a truck or get it into action from the front seat of my Jeep. So I'll probably be running a little bit behind that. But, that kind of performance is the reason I'm having mine built.

Just in case you haven't yet tried it. That's not a cat friendly bullet.
It'll spread cat fluff into a 20' diameter circle around the point of impact. ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

Tim, I've shot that bullet in my .243 for quite a while and they aren't at all fur friendly, LOL! But they do anchor coyotes better than any thing I have tried. I think I may have reccomended them to you somewhere along the line. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)
I am curious to see what they do with the big velocity increase. I shoot them at 3650 out of my .243 and adding another 300 fps may make them a little more volitile! I wouldn't dare shoot a cat with one and it may rain down chunks of coyote for a few seconds after the shot. I may go up to a high 70's or 80 grainer eventually, but damn, these are shooting good. As for the chrono, it's great, I had tried a couple cheapies and then finally bought a good one. No comparison. I had a chrony and it took ten rounds to get five readings. And you had to keep it in the shade or wait for a cloudy day for it to work at all. This one works all the time. And I had to replace the chrony anyway, it had a run in with a 44 mag and lost. I still swear I was aiming higher than that.

Cal, are you getting a drop first in velocity when using the moly? and then a climb in velocity as you continue to go up? I guess what Im trying to say is where is the standard velocity for that screamer and does the above mentioned apply? and accurate too thats sweet! now saddle that up with a glassbed thumbhole laminate or layed up kevlar fiberglass and that would be awsome! even though it already is.

What is the twist rate of the barrel you chose? I would like to add something here about 6mm bullets if that is ok. I have scanned the bullet drop table in my old Speer #11 manual a lot, and it looks like the 85 grain spitzer boat tail with a B.C. of around .40 is about the flattest shooting bullet out to 300 yards. I have had good luck with 90 grain Sierra "Gameking" bullets out of my .25-06. Not too bad on coyote fur most of the time. I'm pretty sure that Sierra offers the "Gameking" in an 85 grain spitzer boat tail for the 6mm. I often think that the Sierra 85 grain "Gameking" out of a 6mm/.284 would make a coyote whacker supreme. I am guessing that you could push that bullet to around 3600 fps or so.

Pretty much any bullet lighter than that 85 gr., will be flatter out to 300 yards. With the lightest 55 and 58 gr. bullets being the flattest of all -- at that short distance.
B.C. doesn't start overcoming plain old velocity for trajectory flatness until further downrange. With a few minor exceptions, to 300 yards, the lighter the bullet, the faster it can go, the flatter it will be.
