Topic: Varmint Rifle weight

I'm looking at getting a varmint rifle in the near futur. What should it's maximum weight be? This would be carried on an ATV and hiking. I've seen them vary in weight from 7-10.5 lbs.
So far the ones I have been looking at are the CZ and Remington in the 22-250.

Welcome to the New Huntmasters, inukshuk. Glad to have you on board. We have another member from Tok, somewhere above the arctic circle; think his name is John?
I have a Remington that you might like. It's a LVSF, weighs 6.75 pounds, only mine is now in 223Ackley, but it's available chambered in 22-250. lookhere:

I've got both brands a couple of cz's and few remington's as far as the guns go both are fine choices.My cz's are little hard on the brass when chambering[stamped clip with sharp edge at the top] that's the only negative i can say.
You'll need all the barrel length you can get for "at least 500 yd. and beyond".To get the 26" barrel you'll probably have to lean towards a heavy gun,they aren't to bad to carry.I say that because you mentioned an ATV.
Just my thoughts here but a 22-250 might be getting a little light out at 500 and beyond.Might also take a peek at a 243,6mm,25-06 type round.

I was thinking of the 22-250 because from what I saw it has the fastest and straightest cartridge for a small caliber. I already have a Tikka 30-06 with bedding and pillars, so was looking for something smaller for fox, geese etc. small game. I will check again on your suggestions.But from your other thoughts, what do you think of the VS SF™ II?

I think the vs-sf II is a great rifle,and can attest to the HS Precision stock.I have a old Bdl being rebarreled right now and have an HS for it that i like very much.
I saw you over at LR Hunting and read about the long action CZ myself.
The remintons seem to have gone up in quality and down in price,the price on the remington website is outdated.
I like the blued fluted barrel alot.

For coyote hunting you are lucky if you get 3 shots off. Therefore a standard barrel is just as good as a heavy one for accuracy. No sense carrying that extra weight.
