i have a ruger m77/22 hornet two yrs old, it was shot 20 times as to sight it in, its topped with a tasco 2.5-14 varminter scope,this gun has never seen the woods,mint cond, its the sporter model with walnut stock, ![[Wink]](wink.gif) will trade , thanks dafooge

to be honest az,,i would trade it off for a 22 cal something? whatcha got? i would rather trade it than cash,i have about 525.00,in it with the scope, sling ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Cripes Vic, Do you have some kind of RADAR for these gun swap posts?
Dafooge, If he doesn't have it, he can get it faster than you can get your rifle ready to ship. You can be real micro specific when working a gun deal with Az-Hunter. And he's one of the most honest gun traders that I've ever met.

Fooge; never tell other gun nuts what you got in it, you will never envoke sympathy from those that have been there:)
I bet I can count on one hand the number of times Ive ever got back "what I got in it" from the literally hundreds of trades and sales Ive done.
You basically have a three-fifty gun, that you've wrapped five-and-a-quarter in:) I love the little hornet, and am fond of the Ruger.....convince me I need it.You looking for a 22 rimfire or centerfire?,maybe a handgun, fill in the blank spaces so I can see where your headed.

There is not a whole lot of demand for the Rugers for many reasons. All the accessories are worthless to the resale value. Take them off and keep them. Everybody but newbies has lots of cheap scopes etc.
If you can find a Ruger lover, go for whatever you can get.
Next time buy a Rem or Win, where the action alone is worth close to $300.

i stand corrected,,,lmao,,good points all,,the cheap scope was purchased cuss its was really my wifes gun and she never used it,,,arg,,that being said,,i was looking to trade up maybe,,centerfire something i could use,and your right never tip your hand,,,,,lol

you know what,,this doesnt sit right with me,,humm lemme think,,i give 525 over the counter for a gun thats really worth whatever i can git for it? humm, lets do the math. i have own rugers before and never had a problem with em,and they do have a good rep as far as i knew. the reason i went with the mk11 was its a nice looking gun and the tooling looks like its put together alright. its a middle of the road gun,of course its not a match grade custom,but when i shot it,it was ok for short range yotie shots that i sometime take, i mean i can probably shoot a dog in the eye with it at 75 yds if he stands still long enough,,,lol,,,awww hell i ll keep the damm thing,, ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

You had a nibble and couldn't reel him in. Gave up too easy; I bet he would have gone $625 or maybe traded one of his pre '64 Model 70's? He's a sucker for those pip squeak cartridges.
Besides, for most guys, they tend to regret selling guns, after the fact. I know I do.

edit: here's the deal with a Ruger. Yes, they look good, but they don't shoot with an average Remington. So, for those in here, generally seriously riflemen, the action isn't nearly as desireable as a Model 700 or Model 70. That doesn't mean you should throw a Ruger out, I own a couple, myself. And, I'm not getting rid of them anytime soon. But, the resale market isn't as strong, for valid reasons. That's just a fact.

Well, there is just so much you can do with a hornet, the case design tends to contribute to inaccuracy, so the first thing to try is the "K" version, which increases the capacity slightly and has a sharper shoulder. It may do nothing as far as improving a Ruger barrel, if that's the source of the problem. The cure for that is a new barrel. I don't know if the Hornet version is the same as the other Model 77's? If it is, you have the action screws that looks good in theory, but in actual performance, leaves something to be desired.
In short, accurizing a rifle with a questionable design, inferior barrel and shooting a well known inaccurate cartridge, well, it just isn't in the cards. Especially when there are better available, such as a Remington chambered in 221.
All this is just my opinion, others may not agree, and probably don't? I have been disagreed with plenty of times.

Those rifles make up into a dandy .17AH repeater. Wessinger does a lot of these conversions.
If anyone ever gave me one of these Ruger Hornets, that's what I'd do with it.

dafooge; all is not lost, Amigo. You just need to locate the right customer, these guys are pretty sharp. The idea of buying a rifle just to acquire the action and screw on a new custom barrel is a good plan. Therefore, the price is predicated on the value of the action, with the other stuff seen as surplus items.
So, that's another plan, rebarrel if it isn't shooting as you would like it to shoot. I'm not sure how many possibilities there are for that particular action, because of the length?
Ask Dave for a contact number, if you are interested in the 17 Hornet conversion, or Calhoon makes the 19 Calhoon which is based on the Hornet. AZ has a link for him, I'm sure.
If nothing else, you can "give" it to DAA, he sounds interested, at the right price.

I believe my gunsmith charged me $35 to run a K reamer into my Hornet a few years ago. Shouldn't be a lot more today. Transformed that little cartridge into a whole different animal. Solved the the little problems inherent to the Hornet,- case stretching with attendant head seperations, accuracy, piddling ballistics. Wonderfully accurate little guy that puts a Nosler or Sierra 45 gr. Hornet bullet out at 3166. I have complete confidence in 150 yard shots on coyotes with it. I also have a 17AH. Fun and interesting little novelty caliber. Not in the same game as the 22K-Hornet for coyotes.

In some cases, a "wildcat or improved design somewhat limits resale value. Hard to say if that applies to a K Hornet, since it is seen as a very desireable modification. Since you don't handload, I don't know how willing you would be, to begin, so the conversion to a K Hornet is something you need to think about. In other words, it takes commitment. Don't expect your buddy to do much more than get you started.
As far as web sites, I'd just find a local guy to do it, if you decide that's what you want. Save postage, just call around. It's a very simple job. I'd rather walk in and drop it off and go pick it up a week later, or whenever?
