You still have that Dead Coyote choke I sold you a couple of years ago???
I went to a Patternmaster Extended Range choke after visiting with Les Johnson, but the damn thing patterned about a foot higher than the choke I sold you. I had to put in a wedge between the stock and action to bring it down.
I have a Mossberg 935, 26" barrel, and I went back to the Dead Coyote choke. I am shooting Federal 3" 4 Buck, or Federal 3" Lead BB's. I have had good luck with both loads on coyotes.
They pattern really well at 40 yards, which is my outer limit on what I like to take a shot on an animal that size.
I do have 3 boxes of the 3.5" Dead Coyote loads, but those things are so damn expensive, I can't bring myself to shoot them at a $15.00 coyote.
I have heard good things about the new Hornady 3" coyote BB load, and they seem reasonable at around $12.50-$15.00 for 10 shells.
Unfortunately, I can't find anyone that stocks them where I shop here.
I am heading out Sunday to a couple of 'cat places, and I will just have 3" BB's in the chamber and magazine.

I do! It's killed a lot o stuff, but that ol 835 is getting heavier and heavier every year. Its a tank.
I have a couple of Mossy 930's, the turkey version. Matte black color. Been using one of those for a couple months maybe. Put some oversize 3 gun style controls on it and I really like it. I actually have a modified Kicks high flyer choke on it, that Im liking as well. Shoots almost everything well. I have some higher end shotguns, but cant bring myself to drag em around for calling.
As far as loads..I shoot all 3" stuff. I had a large stash of DC but it's about gone. I have a hodgepodge of other HTL stuff laying around, but Im getting low on all of it. Having to shoot lead free here sucks. It's expensive!
I know a couple guys that have went back to steel, and actually do quite well, but Im not supposed to say that lol. They dont want anyone to know(that they shoot steel)

I use an 870 Super Magnum Tactical Turkey with Dead Coyote Choke and Dead Coyote T. It's all I've been using for the last 5-6 years or so.

Never thought about the no lead issue. I really like my Mossberg...I can't complain as the wife bought it for me for our 25th wedding anniversary.
As I get older, I am finding that stuff just gets heavier each year.
I think you sent me the link to Timber Butte outdoors, and I might go with one of their slings...I think it will take care of my firearm carring from stand to stand!

Winchester SuperX2 3 1/2"
I like #4 buckshot and have used it since the 60's. Winchester makes a 3 1/2" shell with 52 pellets but it kicks a bunch. This is primarily my goose gun. I've killed a lot of ducks with it, too.

PS. That's a Dead Coyote choke protruding from the barrel. I have several boxes of the Dead Coyote 3 1/2" shells but honestly haven't been impressed. I've had a number of coyotes hit square run off after being knocked off their feet. The sage brush in eastern Oregon is thick so I've lost them. I have no doubt that they all died but I did not retrieve them.
#4 Buck is cheap and effective if you can use it.

Don't get me started on non-lead shells! That is such a bogus, dishonest issue I could just spit!
I agree with the above. First of all, Dead Coyote is ridiculously expensive and kicks like a friggin' mule. Second, I have been using an 835 since practically the day they were introduced. My ser. # has four digits and starts with 2, give you an idea of how long I have had it and my confidence in it.
However, third of all, I prefer the Winchester doubleXX load of #4Buck. The 3 1/2" shells occasionally hang up while working the action, empty. I can't find anything to complain about the 3" #4Buck performance. I do not (at least I try not) do any shotgunning beyond 40 yards. Oh, if I miss or make a bad hit, I pretty much have to follow it up. But, even BAD hits with #4 Buck seems to slow them down, a lot! I have some Winchester DoubleXX in 3 1/2" and just don't see the advantage, nor does the cost justify using them on coyotes. Nor, does (what?) three additional yards effective range?

Rem. 870 with some kind of recoil reducing stock that was on it when I bought it.
Normaly feed it 3" BB or #4 buck.

I removed the plug (legal here as long as I don't point it at birds & such) but usually only load one in the chamber and two in the tube. A couple of slugs are kept handy in the shell holder on the stock. If needed for an unexpected bear or cougar, a slug can be slid into the tube, the action cycled once, putting the slug in the chamber.
Also have an o/u 12 ga. that has rolled it's share. Full choke both barrels. 3" BB
And, a Savage .223 / 12 Ga. combo with a 1.5 - 4 power scope. Handy for cold calling areas where I'm not sure if I'll need a rifle or a shotgun.
It weight a ton & is ugly but does the job.

I have a Benelli M1S90, topped with a Speadbead, but it spends all of its time in the safe these days since I've started taking my dog with me everywhere.
I grew to like the 3" Remington Magnum Buckshot in 4 buck. I hardly ever sat down where I could see farther than 40 yards with a shotgun. They worked for me. Even bought several boxes of Estate 2 3/4, 4 buck that I was pretty satisfied with. Used them mostly when in fox or cat country.

Jim, do you like the Speedbead? I know several on here have them on their shottys, but never really hear much about them anymore.

I've got a Browning gold, 3" 12 ga. Still solid black, but it did come with fiber optic sights. I use #4 buck
It doubles as my turkey gun too with #5 birdshot.

Many years ago, I used 3" Federal BB's on coyotes, in fact I still have some around here. But, Taking recommendation from somebody probably twenty years ago, I killed a few coyotes on day stands with Winchester DoubleXX 3" #4Buck. The results were impressive and while I have used other, more powerful hard kicking expensive stuff, I can't say anything does the job better within my 40 yard range. Yes, I might shoot further on an animal that won't go down due to a bad hit, but that load slows them down, a lot. In that case, I will take a longer shot if necessary.
But Chad, tell me, are you using that Hornady load on cripples or on a daylight stand in your open country? I'd still use my Federal BB's on a cripple, rather than wasting a three dollar Dead Coyote on an animal that's not going anywhere.

Leonard, I am talking daylight stands in open country to very thick sage brush and everything in between. But I must confess quite often I will put the Remington 3" magnum 4 bucks, like Jim mentioned he used in the magazine and just drop the nickel plated lead BB's in the barrel as a first shot. But I have shot quite a few coyotes with the BB's out to 40+ yards. And yes a few cripples too.

Dead Coyote is officially too rich for my blood. Last time I saw a box on the shelf, it was close to fifty bucks! In 3 1/2"

Yeah I've got a couple boxes of the T shot too. Got them a few years back when they were cheaper.I just saw them for 54.99 at cabelas and that was for the 3" box of 10!!!!. I won't pay that much either. Especially when you can get BB or 4buck lead for around 15 bucks for a box of ten. Seems to kill them just as dead.

Last year, I did an unexpected long distance shot and knocked him down at 65 yards.. The stuff has energy!

I do!! I'm kind of holographic junkie, though. I run an EOTech on one of my machine guns and on my muzzle loader when I go to Utah.
The Benelli has a rifle type sight on it, and I just couldn't get used to it. I guess I wasn't getting down on the stock enough and was always shooting low. The thing with a dot type sight is that even if your discipline sucks, as long as the dot is on your target, the shot will be too. Some of the shotgun stuff here can be kind of wild and wooly, and the Speadbead allows me to get away with improper mounting.

That's where I'm at with my recent conversion on my 835 and the EOtech 552, I think it is? You put that dot on the target and that's it. I love it.

Nice looking setup. Looks like you're using those "gold plated" shot shells that Hevishot puts out.lol I think I still have a couple boxes left myself. A box of the T shot and a box of the 4 buck. If I remember right it was around 35 bucks for a box of 10 then. Now I see it for 55 bucks. Damn near 6 bucks a shot.
