This article I can relate to because I just bought a SUV with payments of $535 per month. Being retired, that's a significant chunk out of my income. Where are people coming up with this money? Is it in leu of buying a house. I don't know, but I remember the first new vehicle I ever bought, a 1969 Datsun PU for $1830. That was the total price. The price of "stuff" is getting insane!

It’s funny you mention that. I’ve really been milling around the idea of getting a new pickup truck. Started looking for what I wanted then I saw what they are asking for them. And decided to put A little money into the truck I have ( 2005 4 door Nissan Titan 4x4)Cost me just about what you paid for your Datsun about $2000 to fix everything... But hopefully it will last at least a couple more years. Not ready to pop 400-500 bucks a month for a new one......

Yes Chad, that's exactly what I did, when I had Nissan take a look at why the heater in my Titan wasn't working. $1500 seemed a little steep just to tear into the dash so I talked to the fleet salesman, the guy I bought my truck from in the first place. It's a 2004 4 wheel drive.
He took me out to the lot and we looked at new Titans. $50,000/$55,000 and I thought about it for two seconds and decided to drive my old one a while longer.

edit: sometimes I think that I make a mistake because I tend to drive a vehicle until the wheels fall off. Other times, I can't afford to trade in a truck that is still drivable but it had a dent, or something? Or, it's starting to show it's age. Fuk, trucks aren't supposed to win beauty contests, they work fine with a scratch or two. But, I remember writing that check; it was $36,000, now 15 years later, it's $55,000!
My first house was $15,000. Yeah, apples and oranges but still, $55,000 for a friggin' truck is getting ridiculous!

Yeah I hear ya Leonard. I’m sure I’ll be popping for a new truck here in a year or two. But until then I think I’ll enjoy the extra money in my pocket. The only thing that will probably change my mind is a good break down in the middle of Nevada sometime soon. Lol

I will say it has been a hell of a good truck though, 200,000 miles and $2000 dollars in repairs.
