Fella leaving a comment on my blog, says he tried to join here, but got a message to piss up a rope, we're not taking new members.

How come?

That's not exactly what it says, Dave.

I get so many bogus applications and it is such a pain in the ass to delete them that I closed registrations automatically, but it says in the comments to write me and I will get all legit applications signed up. This is also a lot of work but not as bad as deleting 600 applications every time I get into the control panel.

Have your friend write me. When he does, be sure to state his screen name and all that stuff so I get it right.

My applications are from every part of the globe and it's always selling something or porn, stuff like that. I have to ask stupid questions in the screening process that a computer can't answer correctly and that's usually the big tip off. But the volume is such that I just can't deal with it. And each one takes about a minute to delete. Add it up, 600 bogus applications? Usually takes me 3 days in my spare time.

Tell your friend it's not personal and I'm sorry it's come to this but with such old software I have no other safeguards.

Good hunting. El Bee

Leonard,

No offense, truly. But almost nobody is going to go through that much trouble to join a forum.

I wouldn't.

Probably easier just to go ahead and say, yeah, we're closed to new members.

Thanks for the suggestion. I spend considerable time and treasure taking care of Huntmasters. When you think about it, I don't have that much to keep me from accommodating a few stray applicants now and then, here and there.

When it comes to it, the question really is, redesign the Board, and I don't want to do that, in the face of good advice from my support team.

See when I redid the old board in 2002, I asked members what they wanted, shiny bells and whistles or something basic and simple to navigate and the answer was keep it simple stupid.

I suspect the attitude hasn't changed much but I could be wrong. Anyway, I'm trying to preserve the format so people feel comfortable. I treat them as friends and hope they treat me the same way.

That's the deal, send me an email if you want to be a member and I will get it done.

Good hunting. El Bee

PS oh yeah, I think we need new members once in a while to shake things up and ask the dumb question and he will get a respectful answer, at least from me. That's all I can do.

edit: ko ko can only be expected to do so much^

Leonard, is the email to contact you included in the message they get?

Very specific reason I ask... I'd like to get that email, to the gentleman who brought this up. But! I'm not going to post it as a reply to a comment on my blog. Talk about asking for tons of unsolicited bullshit email... I'd be opening you up to many tons of new bullshit email if I did that.

I can get his email from him and email it to him in private. But if you have it included in the message he is getting, then I don't need to. I just need to encourage him to take the additional step of contacting you.

Make sense?

Its to bad that we have to deal with all this crap but I can see the reasoning, I would hate to deal with what somebody has to deal with that are hosting a form, to bad we don't have big coffee shop or bar that we can sit down and bullshit and do away with all the assholes the world seems to generate. I hope he joins up cause like mined folks are hard to come by these days .

I'll double check on that if I need a clarification? In the meantime, I got an email yesterday, requesting membership, that I need to process.

It's absolutely amazing the way the Internet is patrolled and scanned, and these automatic registrations, (which I guess are called bots?") pile up in my queue. It's like shaving, if you don't take care of it every day, next thing you know, you are dealing with a beard, and ask ko ko how that turns out.

With a watch cap, the likeness is startling! How about braided, have you thought about a braid right down the middle to your navel? And affecting a Royal Coachman on the tip? I'm thinking of something that would stream over your shoulder on the Harley? When rolling....
No hook, no hook! Gads! The navel? Or, even when sitting down, naked! I don't even want to think about it. Hello? Emergency room? I have a problem and I can't get it up. What don't you understand about the word, "snagged"? What? Listen, Miss; this Harley doesn't have electric start. I will HOLD. But if you can't get here soon, Im going to have to shoot the damned cat!

And that's why I shave every day. Why take a chance?

Anyway, just as soon as I said no problem, big problem and I spent most of the morning trying to get ATexan registered. If he only tries the last password sent, he can probably get in and post if he wants?

Computers! I hate em!

Welcome Atexan to the only sane, most of the time, hunting board on the net.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on March 09, 2018, 08:12 AM:

Yes, mostly sane.

Anyway, the greeting:

Welcome to the New HuntmastersBBS.com, ATexan. Glad to have you on board.

Dave, is this your friend? If not, send him over while I'm on a roll.

Good hunting. El Bee

PS and by the way, there were just three spam registrations yesterday while I was working on this application. I suppose they come out after dark or something? To be honest, my son in law Corey had to bail me out, I was totally in over my head.

PPS it may not seem like a lot, considering just how much posting we do here, but there have been 12,300 page views this month, in the first 8+ days. Like I said we get Lurkers.

Welcome aboard, ATexan.
It's good to see folks from 'back east' joining in.
[Big Grin]
Yeah, some of us have a strange sense of humor.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Never taught of Texas being back east.. lol. Hell, I taught east of the big river was were that part of the world starts.

You have really made the big time around here if you have a custom title, right ko ko?

Atex, see how he dispenses that sage advice! Texas is back east!

Anyway, yes, there will be occasional wit. Some clever, some dry, (my speciality) and some inane. Occasionally, somebody that actually hunts will wade into the conversation with "hero shots". but we can keep that to a minimum so we don't embarrass us old folks that can't get it up. I'm mostly reduced to rehashing old stories about the good old days., endlessly, over and over, a little like Gabby Hayes. Ha! Nobody knows who he is?

I would say life would be pretty boring if there wasn't any humor. And ko ko telling me Texas is back east has got me giggling like a school girl.
LB Wasn't he a actor? Did old school Westerns I believe.
Speaking of 'hero shots' DAA's coyotestuff.com was the website that grabbed my attention. Thats a kick ass site! and thats where I found the huntmasters link if I remember correctly. Man, some of the pictures are killer. Great job

Yeah, one thing about the old farts here..........the older they get, the better they were.

Edit to add; I do take a shot at Texas now & then but I'm also aware that the phrase "The Great State O' Texas" is pronounced as one word.

I think THEGREATSTATEOFTEXAS can survive a dig, now and then. Ask me about the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune hurled at residents in The People's Republik, otherwise known as Kalifornia. We get lots of scorn and abuse. Well deserved, I might add.

This latest crap! I'm telling ya, Jerry brown should keep his big mouth shut! As far as I am concerned, it's time for the government to put the skids on this "Sanctuary City" shit. Warning illegal felons about ICE raids? Yes, obstruction of justice is not too strong a word. And, that Mayor is cute enough, but she would look better in orange.

Then there was that segment on Hannity last night, or was it Tucker? Denver releases an illegal because they didn't issue an actual warrant rather than a "retainer" whatever that is? But the Denver Sheriff knew exactly what they was doing. Absolutely shameful! I'm not sure exactly what happened but the guy was involved in an accident, he was negligent and a citizen died, but they let him go because, SANCTUARY.

This shit has got to stop!

I think that I've mentioned this before, but do the Dems ever read history books ????
Federal versus States rights issues were settled a long time ago at a place called Gettysburg.

I wonder if ATexan is the guy that tries to eat that huge lump of steak at Big Texan in Amarillo? Every payday!

Most non-Texans have figured it out, and don't even try. But, it's cheap entertainment for the rest of us; eat the steak, beat the clock, make the list. No thank you!

The 72 oz. steak? Hell no! We laugh at people that try to choke that nasty steak down. The Big Texan is a tourist trap for sure. I have been there once come to think on it. A co-worker about 5 years ago was talking about how he could "destroy" that steak. Well little did he know that he had to eat that 72 ozer and ALL of sides as well, within an hour and no throwing it up either. Shrimp cocktail, salad, bread roll, and a side of his choice. Poor bastard had to sit up in front of the whole place, and this aint a small establishment, and try to eat this 72 oz steak. Long story short,my friend who we will call him a 300+ lbs cornbread fed Texan back away with a $100 and some change food tab and a belly ache like no other.

Yes, sounds like you've been there! Driving west for a 100 miles we saw the billboards and my son is a big eater. He's working himself into a frenzy!

Then we got there ands what they had on ice right at the entrance. I mean, I like a nice rib eye, or any marbled steak but that big clod of extra lean meat can't be very flavorful? Yes it's a come on. Even my son thought better of it and just ordered something like a 32 ounce steak since dad was paying for it.

Anyway, you have to admit, there's not a lot of good restaurants along that route. Kinda fun, interesting. Probably not a Texan in the place....and like you said, it's a big place.
