Well, sorta...It's 98 @ the airport right now. Sooo, I'd guess 103-105 in town.

I think that climate is something that you have to be born for. Some people in the far North think nothing of - 60* in the winter. Some people just love the Pacific North Wet with it's 65 inches of rain a year. To me, 100* is no big thing.

Yeah but, I sure appreciate it when it cools down to 95deg. after midnight.

Here's the thing, Dave. It's all mental. The Phoenix locals keep blabbering shit like; "It's a dry heat" and, "Get up early and enjoy the morning!" See, it kinda fries the brain, and when that happens, it's exactly like the frog that sits in the pan while you bring it to a boil. All in all, hard to believe.

Heat or no heat, them seniors still manage to take advantage of the early bird specials at Denny's, Sun City. It's truly, a different world.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: Or, in koko's case, him and Sneaky Pete take advantage of the specials at The Pink Taco when he's in town.

Getting hot here too. Century mark this weekend. I like hot better than cold, but I kinda shut down when it gets this hot.

Spent last weekend in Moab though - it was around 105* all three days, so I've had a good taste of it already.

Was 97 yesterday and I'm at 7000 ft. Gotta be a lot hotter down in the valleys.Yup, can't wait for summer to hit.

Was 108 in Yucca Valley yesterday. Of course, with temperatures like that in The People's Republik, it comes with fires. Always something.

If this GLOBAL WARMING shit keeps up, our weman will be clamoring to go topless, and you know how I feel about that. When you've seen one set of boobs, <shrug> you wanna see 'em all. Females always like to show off the "girls", and we should be understanding in that regard. Note: grandma, you can go ahead and keep your shirt on. We can imagine when they used to be perky.

Where was I? Supposed to be 95 today in Upland; sweater weather. I just don't think it's fair that the whackos can claim every conceivable weather event as proof of GLOBAL WARMING, or their "fall back" position, Climate Change. Everything proves it when you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

Make some Sun Tea

Good hunting. El Bee

98 here today and 100+ tomorrow. Hot for western Oregon but not unheard of.

I like the sun tea idea. It's going out right now. Too hot to sit out on the patio to drink it but it's cool in the house.

Yeah it has been warm here and expected to get warmer. I will try and stay at 9000 feet as much as possible for the foreseeable future.

Well, glad to see everyone's enjoying the weather !!

This just moved up the wheat harvest here. They normally don't start until the last week of July or so. Most guys are gonna' start after the 4th.

Yes, been selling combine parts all week. Of course in some ways, it's kinda nice to get it out of the way..Lol

Wheat harvest in full speed ahead mode here, although not as strong as in the past. Lots of rain the past few weeks and still waiting for fields to dry in the lower parts, moisture levels to drop in the wheat itself. We had a couple days this week that were 101-103 with 25 mph south winds. Good for harvest. Not so much for the mailman.

Posted by Moe (Member # 4494) on June 27, 2015, 07:08 AM:

No wheat being harvested here yet. Some of the fields are still showing some green. However the grass seed is being harvested about 3 weeks early. The harvesting raises a lot of dust and particles from the grass making it impossible to keep a vehicle clean. Next comes the plowing which replaces the grass particles with pure dirt. But I opted to live in a farming community so I guess I can't gripe.

We brought in some coolers called ICEBIN. I'm not sure who bought them ? we only have one now. Probably employee's. Looks like a cheap Yeti ?

Officially 111 here yesterday. Set a record for that day.

The temp at my house, which is a little lower in elevation than from where the recorded temps are taken, was 113.5 with 10% humidity. So it's a dry heat. They always say that's a good thing, I guess?

Well, here in bucolic and peaceful Yucca Valley, this is day three and it's been partly cloudy the whole time, keeping the temperature below 100. This means the deserts are heating up and drawing marine air inland, and that's where we're at. Since YV is high desert surrounded by low desert. And, now since I am a homeowner, I need to promote the virtues, such as the are. And, it's not as hot as Palm Springs, but more "affordable". Since we have such a pleasant blend of retirees and welfare and a few scattered military types. Could be worse; could be like Hesperia and Victorville. I remember fifty years ago, they were practically giving land away in Hesperia. People walked away, property wasn't worth the taxes they paid. Now it's one of those places with no central planning, horses and chickens next to developments of 4 and 5 bedroom homes built for commuters to Los Angeles. The rationale being, we can buy a 4 bedroom house here, or a two bedroom house fifty miles closer to work. Who cares that it takes two hours to get to work and gas is $3-4 a gallon. Welcome to urban sprawl.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: forecast is for only 93 today, wear a sweater!

110 here yesterday. I called back to Kansas to order a part this morning. I told the guy we hit 110 degrees.

He's like I had no idea you guys got that hot !!

Leonard, you mentioned throwing on a sweater? Last night when the outside temps had dropped to the upper 90's, my wife was sitting on the couch reading with a blanket over her!

With the AC on, the house was at 75 degrees. The outside temps were still bumping a 100 though. Something is just plain wrong with using a blanket when the outside temps are that warm... I think she is part snake?

We have had a ton of rain here in Central Kansas since the middle of April. All that does is make the heat index worse when we approach 100 degrees with the darn humidity. If we could skip summer, I would be a happy guy.

I mowed the lawn yesterday while it was 99 with humidity…pretty tough on a fat banker that is used to A/C every day. I can’t imagine being a mail carrier like Lance or anyone else in that works outside.

My dad worked in the oilfield for 45 years, and continually preached to me that I was going to college so I didn’t have to work in the heat and cold. I fulfilled his ultimate dream, but there are days I wish I did work outside and didn’t have to deal with the mental stress and regulations…

Leonard, I remember driving down the hill from Yucca valley to Palm springs and the temp would rise 10* or more. Then seeing all those wind mills, vanes, whatever they are called.

Tim, you learn pretty quickly a few tricks to deal with it. I'll down a gallon-plus of ice water in a day of walking. Some idiot who works indoors designs our uniform and made our sun hats navy blue, so that was a damned bright idea. You can cook inside one of them, so I took the advice of a soldier on my route several years ago who told me to pack then inside of the crown with wet paper towels or a towel that's been soaked in water. I carry two washcloths, each in its own ziplock bag. One is in the crown of my hat and the other's in an insulated lunch bag against a frozen blu-ice cooler. I switch them out between loops. As long as you stay hydrated and keep switching out those ice rags, it ain't bad at all. When I was on all walking routes, I just bee lined THROUGH water sprinklers and got soaked down, being sure to hold that hat down where it would catch the water and get a good soaking, too. Never wrung it out. Just let it run down over me as I walked. I've got good customers on my route. Several just tell me to come on in and get a cold drink, even if they're not home. Some will leave me a Gatorade in a cooler on their porch. Very thoughtful for the mailman. And he certainly appreciates it.

I've just about had it with all this 100 degree temps, dry as a bone country and the FIRES!!!!!!
Burned out Thursday night back in the building the next morning. Don't have to worry about being burned out now for the summer.
It's going to get worse too.
Figure there is going to be a lot of acres burnt and callers being crowded up once again in the west. Since there is no coyote populations in the west now it makes it twice as hard to get ahead.

Well, eight straight days now of 100 or above.. [Frown]

Those late spring rains fueled cheat grass growth. Yeah, could be a bad fire year ?

Plus: the heat ruins my thirst for a good beer [Big Grin] On the other hand me & the wife just got home from grocery shopping. Picked up a twelve pack of Bud Light : Lemon-Ade-Rita. It's pretty dang refreshing ya'll might check it out.

It's IS going to be a bad fire season!
Already burned more acres than last year.
Oregon just burned 14k acres south of JV.
Burned 8k in Leslie Gulch.
10k acres in Sweet/Squaw Butte area.
It's just getting started

The most worst place I ever lived was when stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso. We had more than 30 straight days of 100* plus temperatures. Add to that, I had to hose the car every morning before driving to formation, otherwise, couldn't see out the winders. That's a lot of dust. Freaked Nanc out, she was dusting every day, hated El Paso!

By the way. Anymore, you can hardly recognize El Paso as part of the United States? Estatos Unitos de Mexico, maybe?

Good hunting. El Bee

30 days would suck !!

EW remember two years ago about a million acres burned between McDermitt NV and Burns Junction, Or ?

Talked to a guy from JV the other day. He says that looks like a lawn now ? BLM won't allow grazing for three years after a fire. Go figure ?

The locals are spooked it could all start over again.

I like cheap beer drinks in the summer too Dave. The wife likes a Highlife over cracked ice, with about five limes squeezed in. My favorite is what I call a red beer, cheap assed highlife, tabasco, pepper, worschestersire sauce and four or so ounces or clamato piquante.....yum, I can drink a gallon of those when it's really hot!

Strongbow; Honey / Hard Cider.
Yeah, I tried it because of the name but it's pretty tasty on a hot day.

DA, I'm in wildland fire. So know just about what, which and where fires are at this time of season.
Those fires burned 1.5 million. Last season they burned everything north of BJ on the west side of the Owyhee river roughly speaking.
I don't know how he could say it looks like lawns down there. Maybe early early spring. lol

LB the reason I don't live in the deep SW the heat would kill me now a days.

I have a mescan friend who went to El Paso to visit some family, his describition of living on or near Ft. Bliss was...
"VETE MIENTRAS AUN ESTAS VIVO"
" Get Out While You're Still Alive"
I think those words also apply to living in the People's Republic Of Kalifornee today.

Vic,
Hook me up to IV with your recipe! Red beers are wonderful!

Try a bit of celery salt with your ingredients...adds a whole 'nuther layer of flavor!

In 1983, we had 45 days, I believe, of temps over 100 here in Central Kansas--worst day was 114 or 115 if I remember correctly. Followed it up with the worst winter we had in years.

I got a case of heat stroke as I was a volunteer fireman in a stubble fire in August of that year...it has affected my ability to handle the heat ever since--I hate the heat.
