Or
Leg Humping Taken To A New Level.

Andrew McKean.
Feb '15 Outdoor Life, which is usually a decent read to take to a `place of quiet seclusion`, has an article extoling the virtues of the Circe call.

Hard to freeze, unlike open reed calls. [Eek!]
Wide vocal range. [Roll Eyes]
Wide register. [Confused]
Ability to howl. [Eek!]

No doubt any of the Circe models, wooden or plastic, are fine calls. I think that I have all of the plastic models and a couple of the wooden ones. They've earned a spot on the lanyard but to claim `one call to rule them all` ????
This guy is either humping for a Pro Staff spot of is unfamiliar with other closed reed calls (The Weems Dual Tone comes to mind) or any number of open reed calls that a talented caller can make an amazing range of sounds with.

End of rant.

Edit 4 spel.

I have a special fondness for Circe, it was my very first call. I ruined it chewing on the tip. But, I still have it.

I actually prefer the tip shape to the trumpet style of a Weems.

Huh... One of my first, maybe it was "the" first, actually can't remember, was a Circe that I still have. The one with three reeds. Can't remember what it's called though? Already had the shotgun shell modification done to it when it was given to me [Big Grin] .

A fine call. But, just one of many.

My Dad started making his own calls, open and closed reed not too long after I moved out and was mostly hunting on my own. Used a lot of those, back in the day. He used red Dixie cups to make the reeds for his open reed calls. Until one day he somehow ended up on the phone with Major Boddicker and if I'm remembering right, Major sent Dad a manilla envelope full of different thickness mylar reed material, a lifetime supply (for someone making calls for his own use), free of charge.

I got the same from Krusty. An envelope with what (for me) is a lifetime supply of various thicknesses and type of reed material. I have used a few but barely made a dent. But, I think that was the intent, to have different material and thicknesses to try for that elusive, "special sound".

Now, if I can only remember where I stashed them? Just kidding. I think I know where to look?

A quick check of EBay shows a few wooden Circe calls in varying condition.
One, like new, $75.00-OBO.

Good calls. Hell, they were there in the beginning. I just don't think that they are the ONE CALL.

So..............To hi-jack my own thread;

If you had only ONE call to use, now until the end of time, what would it be ??

A wooden Circe? That's beyond my time, and I've been packing one for 40 years.

Mine is wood. Given to me about 35 years ago, no idea how old it was when I got it.

Three reeds, turn the barrel to switch.

The wood ones are the best imo. Plastic ones sound good, but there's something about wood that makes an enclosed reed call stand out. My sometimes calling buddy uses one all the time, and won't sell it to me [Frown] (enclosed reed Circe)

Oh and just one, forever, would have to be a FoxPro, obviously.

If it has to be a mouth call, just a plain old Crit'R Call for me thank you.

Ok, I gotta ask; just what is with the `shotgun shell modification` ?? How & why and all of that.
Thanx !!

That Andrew feller must be one bad ass caller if he can get Coyote vocals out of a circe closed reed call.lol I own one and couldn't howl out of it if my life depended on it. And to say that the circe call is more freeze proof than a open reed call. All I can say is wow. If I could only have one call to do it all it would definitely be my Critr call (Songdog Jr.)open reed call.

Good Hunting Chad

If I had to pick one call, it'd be an early prototype Rabid Rabbit open reed that Kerry Carver gave to me. That thing can do anything from a woodpecker to an elk!

It's gotta be an open reed call for the range of sounds/noises you can make and they don't freeze up on you. My favorite has been my trusty and reliable Krusty Krier he made for me some years ago. Extremely good call and has accounted for just a few hundred coyotes. Til I got the Krusty I made my own open reed calls and they all worked but that truely custom made Krusty Krier is by far the best one Ive had.

I'm so unaware! Of course, my first Circe is wood, walnut. Now that I know a few things I didn't before, I will start keeping it in the safe with my jewels and the Rolex. I mean, if I had a Rolex. I heard they keep lousy time?

Good hunting. El Bee

I would pick a Yella Fella open reed call from Red River Calls, you can do just about any sound you want. I've even call coons with it besides coyotes and cats.

I'm with Dave and Utcaller. I started with the plastic Circe with the three reeds like Dave. When hunting when it was -25 I would keep it in my mouth constantly so it wouldn't freeze up. Nowadays I have a critter call, tally-ho, and an open reed by Rich Cronk that sounds just like my critter call, but louder. I won't leave home without my critter call.
