.Had a real good day of calling yesterday. Me and Tim were out for the weekend. We killed 13 yesterday. Just the way these things work out sometimes, but I killed 11 of the 13 for the day. Including 4 I killed on the last stand of the evening.
I'd killed three and ended the stand. Standing there pissing, rifle shouldered, with an empty chamber. Coyote comes running into the stand. I racked the bolt and got her dead while still standing there with my dick in the wind dribbling piss on my boots... Anything for just one more coyote, I guess ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Anyway, 13 yesterday, 4 more this morning before the wind reached gale force, plus a called in badger. Good hunt!

edit: I had to cross a creek to retrieve a coyote and we were driving with my pants out the window with the glass rolled up when we saw a coyote mousing in the field so I did have to shoot him in my underwear. I probably looked ridiculous?

Leonard, the badger came in to jackrabbit. Same as all the coyotes did. He showed up late in the stand, I saw him run full out for about 75 yards, right to the caller. No idea how far he might have actually come from.
Not common. But, not quite rare either in my experience. Have seen badgers run in to prey distress at least a dozen times now. Probably closer to 15? So, not even a once a year event, but once every other year or so?
Most memorable, called them in on back to back stands once!

To add... By "called in", I mean I saw them running to the call from at least some distance. Saw one coming once from half a mile out - just a dot moving through the sage brush at first, not sure what I was seeing until he got closer.
Would also add, Tim shot that one. I very rarely shoot them anymore.

Good for Tim! I will shoot every one I see from this day forward. I've given badgers a pass, but one dog encounter gets them a death sentence.

As Jimanez said, I shoot badgers. I have no problem with those that decline because they aren't worth skinning, or more accurately.... too damned difficult. But, that is not what motivates me. I still think it's near impossible to have a "pass through" on a badger! Well, maybe a head shot? Otherwise, they are one tough critter!

PS as far as calling a badger on a stand, I put them in the same category as black bear, they aren't very motivated.

Mostly singles. Well, all singles, really. Did kill two on one stand and four on another, but they all came in one at a time.
Not sure how many stands, but I think we only had two blanks. I'm going to guess maybe 15 stands?

I think we've had that conversation before, what constitutes a double? As far as I am concerned, as long as you are sitting there, and even when you are getting up to go, whether at the two minute mark, or ten minutes later; that's all considered A DOUBLE, or triple, whatever? When they come in side by side or follow the leader, that's something different, like "difficulty 2.1".
Two coyotes on a stand is a double, in my book.
God, thinking about it, Dave, it's probably been three years, at least since I had a weekend where we killed over a dozen animals. Oh well, body count has lost importance for me when there isn't a contest involved. And, I guess cheaters have taken the shine off of contests, in general, so <sigh> attitudes change.
Still, when the action is hot, it's a thrill. Savor it.
