It helps when one of your partners is a welder for sure.

Wow, you said it!

I was in AZ for a week and only got 10, you got that in one day/night?

All I can think of right now is the scene in the movie "Waynes World" with Wayne, Garth, and Alice Cooper. "I'm not worthy" [Smile]

We did a tournament recently in Tucson... There was 42 teams (one day) and 1st had only 6 coyotes.. lol..

( It was a windy day though)

dang...15 wouldn't even place? Maybe they only pay out for first place?
A team brought in 21 at St. Francis this year. A day and a half of day time only calling.

This was a big bobcat contest. 23 hour hunt.
It’s kind of different in that you have to kill 5 fox or 5 coyotes to weigh your heavy cat.
Pays 3 monies for the top 3 cats.
There were 380 something teams entered and heavy cat paid over 31K
The most cats, coyotes and fox are each a side pot that paid just under 7K each.
Most coyotes were 32 then 22 and then would have been our 15.
Most fox was 62.

I sent a text and found out Rusty Holts buddies had 22…last month they had 32 and won the pot. So we knew not to make the long drive to San Angelo.
Yesterday I found out I have hunted with one of the guys that had 32 in this contest. They usually are after the fox, so I didn’t bother to check with him before weigh in. Anyway he has been telling me for years about this Mythical Ranch that has coyotes over ever rise. This contest they got to hunt it. Contest starts at high noon and at 12:01 they had their 1st coyotes. Had 18 in the truck by dark.

It’s a good hunt and my partners are fun to hunt with. Looking forward to the next one.

Good luck, Kelly. That kind of money will taint the event before long. Out here in The Land Of The Fruits And The Nuts, we got away from cash in the early seventies. Trying to stay under the radar, it did no good as everybody has probably heard, by now, coyote hunting contests are outlawed.

Of course, it's a different situation. All public land out here, no public land in Texas.

Good hunting. El Bee

Very true LB. I'm mixed on contest. Enjoy getting ready and doing the hunt. Taking Polygraph test really suck.

With the money getting the way it is land will become even harder to access.

Not coming, it's HERE.

Speaking of St Francis, the ranchers with the best coyote populations partner up with top teams and split prize money.

Good hunting. El Bee

31k is serious money! Isn't that almost a teacher's salary?

Nice haul, Cat Daddy, Aaron and Colt!

If we could hunt from vehicles here in NY, I'd have to have a "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" night rack for my truck. But man, would that get some looks drivin' thru the city on the way upstate!!!

Kelly is right, these numbers sound too big for me,but the big cat weighed 32 lbs 8 oz paid $31,443,second paid $15,721.50,third paid $5,240.50.Most fox was 63,won by my nephews team, most coyotes was 32,most cats was 8 they paid 7,600.

Over 400 teams in this months hunt.

We had 15 coyotes again. Was sending text to the guys I knew would be strong on coyotes and one team also had 15. The others less.
We headed to hook up the trailer with the ranger load so we would not have to double back after checkin. Before we got that done, got a text from them and they said we just killed a triple...
So we took a nap before driving home.

They ended up with 19 coyotes to win the side pot.

Done with contest till next year. About time to help start training some pups and get some dog work in.

Yall stay after them.
Kelly

PS if you get a chance watch Furtakers on the outdoor channel this Thursday. Big Al was down filming in Nov. Ought to be a decent show.

Dammit man, who's looking after my pup while you're out galavanting? Another good effort for naught.

You know, I must be getting old because this stuff doesn't get the juices flowing like it used to.

You can bet Kelly didn't just drive up and start calling. He has contacts where he can deck 15 coyotes two weekends in a row.

Yeah, you have to do all the rest, like kill 'em. But that golden access in the great state of Texas is a privilege, and it's mostly by invite.

However. Kelly, good job, we are proud of ya!

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: I mean it; good job

It takes exactly ONE coyote to get my juices flowing! So in that regard, whackin' 15 coyotes in that amount of time would be some hot shit to be a part of. Congrats to my Okie dudes!!!
