What do you want to know about predators and hunting them?

Ask here and we will attempt to solve all of it, including any misinformation you have read on PMS.

If you are a member, you are probably already an expert in some aspect of this sport, so don't be afraid to get your lunch handed to you. Happens to everybody.

I'm wondering what's the best sound? Super chicken, maybe? Anybody have an opinion? I usually have terrible luck starting an entertaining thread. [Frown] Is it because I know too much or not enough?

Good hunting. LB

I have been known to play continuous sound while driving and while hunting or even relieving myself. Continuous as in all the time, especially if it's windy. After a while, you can hear it in your head while sleeping. Continuous sound works for me.

Next question.

Dear panel of experts,

I was just wondering where the best place to hunt yotes in Utah is?

You don't have to give me your honey-holes, just a some places where a guy can bust a few dawgs and have a good day without getting too far off the pavement. If anybody is heading out this weekend, I'll tag along. My truck is down right now and I'm a little short on cash, so you'll have to drive. I can call'em pretty good though and I like to talk, so it should be a good time. Who knows, maybe you can learn something along the way?

PM me your offers and directions. Just make sure they are good directions. I don't wanna get lost.

This panel thing is great idea.
[Smile] [Smile]

(In all seriousness, I've seen post's akin to this from people searching for hunting spots in Utah dozens of times. Probably more than all the other states combined.)

You NAILED that sucker Lonny!

I've seen THAT post. Almost word for word. TOO MANY TIMES!

...UTAH...don't want your honey hole...UTAH...just a good area to go...UTAH...without going too far...UTAH...would love to tag along with you...UTAH...could you show me on a map...UTAH...

The one that KILLS me though, and I used to get this in email a lot, is how they play the "somewhere to take my SON" card. I automatically brand you an ass hat douche bag for life if you email me out of the clear blue sky asking for a good place to go hunt coyotes, and then throw in the "just need a good place to TAKE MY SON" card for sympathy. I've gotten that one so many times I've developed a flinch for it...

I have seen several pictures of black coyotes. If it doesn't have a collar, it is a coyote...right?

Also, urgent help needed for this one. I own 5 acres behind my house and have a mountain lion living there. I have already located the den [confirmed by huffing] and was wondering should I just sit and wait for it to come out or build a bait pile?

Randy

That's why they all drive to Nevada, Lonny. Utah has a scorched earth hunting policy. That country should hold a lot more coyotes than it does. Go figure.

Best bet extreme northwest or extreme southwest. No promises, good luck. Write when you can, and stay away from the polygamists, and don't borrow a cup of sugar from them, either.

Good hunting. LB

AR, Those black dogs have been proved to have wolf DNA.

edit: by the way, if you do your part, a 22 rimfire is all you need to kill any coyote that ever lived, black or otherwise.

Excellent question Randy but, the question that needs to be answered is if the said lion is one of the notorious black ones? This could change things drastically.

If it's five acres or less, a tethered lamb works the best. The cougar will show up before midnight, in most cases. Point your truck's headlights at the lamb, get close but don't leave the engine running the whole time, just enough to keep the cab warm. Shoot off the door sill, if legal.

Good luck, LB

Lonny;
This is secret information, not to be shared with ANYONE.

The best place to hunt fur in Utah is Wells Nev. at a ranch called The Hacienda. There is an access fee, but it must be worth it; lots of Utah plates on the vehicles every week-end.

The best machine for the money is the tried and true Johnny Stewart 512. The digital fad is just that, over rated, way too expensive and a good hand call works just as well, if you do your part.

It's good to know that all those Utah hunters that contact me, that they take my advice and write to DAA for hot spots close to town, where they can take their son.

Good hunting. LB

koko, is that the place with the ten foot purple privacy fence at the end of the culdesac?

One other question for the panel.

I just sold my great-grandpa's old rifle that I inherited, and now have $300 burning hole in pocket.

What would you recommend for custom rifle that I can have built with my $300? Not sure on caliber yet... Nothing too fancy, just action, barrel, and stock all done up right. It must shoot in the .2's and 3's, if I do my part. Oh yeah, I need a scope for it also. I want something decent, not junk.

First off, go see my homey two dog balls on the corner south state street and w 400 south in Salt Lake City Ut. Tell'em dipstick sent ya. That is me secret Honey Hole BTW. A great place to take your son or grandson im my case to get his first fur. 2dog can hook you up with a Ak-47 that isn't on the books yet, and it hasn't been used too much. Then go see 2cool rackem and stackem. Him lives in south salt lake on state and east 2700. He can fixem up with a Baraska scope and a can. There's you go. A custom gun under 300 dimes.

Leonard;
I think that the purple fence was at Donna's Ranch. She was a kindly widow woman who took in homeless orphaned girls and provided them a place to stay & work. Kinda brings a tear to the eye just thinking about it.

Oh,..........and the best .300 Mag fur load is to put a .17 cal pill in a .30 sabot over a case full of powder (doesn't matter what kind) and a magnum primer. Zips right thru with zero damage. Kills by transfering a static electric charge to the critter. Brings new meaning to the term "Zap 'em!!!!". [Big Grin]

Ok guys I've got one for ya. I was calling coyotes using my grizley bear in heat call when I spotted a big male coyote comming over a rise not 10yds. away but, when I stood up and yelled "freeze!" to stop him he turned and ran off!! What did I do wrong? I don't think he winded me because, I was wearing my Old Spice masking sent.

Posted by Leonard (Member # 2) on February 08, 2010, 06:19 PM:

There's no cure for that one PH. You just have to shake it off and hope the coyote gods favor you on the next stand...which should be at least 30 minutes in length, btw. In almost every case, a lip squeak will stop them critters sideways at 50 yards, making for an easy chip shot.

AR, there ain't no lions in MO. Wishing won't make it so. Hunt Kansas, or Minneesota. There's a bag limit, be careful with that machinegun!

Darn good questions, men! Keep them coming.

PS What's your favorite song?

Lonny,for $300 there's no need for a custom rig.Why waste the money lapping lugs,having actions trued,ect..ect..

Thats why Savage invented the Stevens 200,from what I hear they are capable of shooting 1/4"-1/2" groups with the least expensive factory ammo available. All for only about $300 bucks, give or take..

Not that I'm bitter,or don't take anyone for their word mind you..

None of your information helps here because of the government hunters. I saw their F16 come by here a week ago and so the coyote hunting here will never be any good again. Im pretty sure they shot a coyote in my aunt Lucy's back yard and I know they didn't have permission. They are assholes that just fly anywhere and kill everything including grizzlies and mountain lions. And I see their poison trap thingies everywhere and I'm sure they are illegal too. I don't know why the sheep farmers just don't call me cause I killed 3 coyotes in the last 7 years and I have every 7th sunday off of work and if theres not a good wrasslin match on tv sometimes I go coyote huntin. I'm sure I could handle all the problem coyotes for them.

edit: listen, I ain't saying Yoga will improve your luck, but it shore can't hurt!

edit: remember, when you hear them yodeldogs howl, they are on a fresh kill. That's the best time to sneak up on them and pick them off one at a time. They won't even notice!

edit: the best way to get over the case of the nerves is a breakfast of corn beef hash and a pint of whiskey. Cures constipation, as well.

Boy, I'm sure glad you fellas are here to answer these fine questions.

I have been pondering this situation for a while now. I have a new Beretta Bobcat (I got this gun because I really want to shoot a bobcat with it!). It's a small little 22LR pistol. So small I can put it in my pockets of my tactical camo pants. I really like it because I can climb up my 10 foot ladder and not have to worry about it. Oh yeah, my ladder is aluminum. I wish I would have read this thread before I got it.

My question is about the 22LR and a 2 inch barrel. Do you guys think I could shoot a "kitty" at 100 yards and drop it "DRT"? I am an excellent shot! I shoot soda cans all the time at 200. Should I be aiming for any spot in particular?

And maybe one of you guys could take me out to a good cat spot. Hell, I would even let you shoot my bobcat. I only want an experienced bobcat hunter though. Don't waste my time if you don't know what you are doing. I AM DEPENDING ON YOU GUYS!

Oh I almost forgot. What sounds make the cats go crazy? I am buying a new JS512 (on Leonard's advice), but I need to know what tapes or 8 tracks to get. What do you guys think?

I bought a couple of those green bands from Rick on PM. He uses them for holding the reeds on his custom calls . Works like a charm.

PS +1 on the great site

Edit to claify: My wife bought me the green bands for Christmas. She's been a RN for 38 years and knows the best ways to deal with pain. She told me they would work like a charm.

Dave Allen, since I am an A/R expert, my advice is too many folks use too big a scope and too small a clip. You can walk em in easier if you just look over the scope.

A Beta drum is perfect for coyote hunting, skip the 30 round clips.

Hi Tom,soooo a small scope and big "clip" is the way to go ? Hmmmmmm.

edit.... I called all the ranchers and they aren't being very receptive, but there are tons of unhunted BLM land thats ours for the taking. I'm sure there hasn't been anyone out calling any of these areas yet. We will kick some ass!

I always figured a coyote would eat anything even another coyote. Let's say a coyote was really hungry and it found a dead coyote. Would it eat it?

Panel members

This is a little off topic so please bare with me. I see that Uncle Jay has a new job driving truck for DPMS. So here's my guestion, If a guy was to go to truck driving school, do you think it would be possible to get a job with one of those major gun builders and possibly get some sweet deals on black guns?

EDIT: My first choice would be Remington because I'd sure like one of those R-15's autographed by BS, but being realistic I'd take the first offer. Do you think I'm nuts.

One more question before I'm out of here. Going to join up with 2dogs for a couple of days of hole huffing.

Have any of you fellas ever tried light brown sugar for a cover scent? Ran into a post on the Foxpro board(PMS)where GG, the person who first coined the phrase "Pampass Know It All, discovered guite by accident that good eating wild hogs smell like light brown sugar. Seems he was shopping for groceries one day and thought he smelled hog and upon further investigation realized the hog smell was coming from the sugar section! That had to be one hell of a surprise!

So anyway I'm thinking that brown sugar could be very effective when used as a cover scent. Since the brown sugar scent is a natural order it would put the coyote at ease long enough to make the shot.

Sorry Dave. Absolutely no commercialism at HM. We are working on some instructions for craft projects that you can make for yourself with a box of crayons, white paste, a sissors and some assorted construction paper. Great impact, makes a statement just like PM gear. So, if you really want to belong, you know what to do.

Good hunting. LB

edit: Dennis, that idea was my PERSONAL closely guarded secret until Do rag blabbed! I may sue. But, go ahead and try it....in Texas. Hey, you and Kirby the hole huffer really are buds?

edit: curious. what's the best hole huffing weather? Moon phase, atmospheric conditions, etc. There has to be something to that shit. Talk about association games. You think of Coyote Board=PM, Pro Staff=Foxpro shill and Kirby=hole huffer

Have your favorite in-law try the load out first though. Just to make sure there isn't anything wrong with your rifle that would make the load unsafe.

I am getting blow-off-ified...HELLLLLLLo!!!!!

See, I know this guy that claims he put a big 'ol pile of skinned yotee carcasses behind the barn. I am pretty sure he is a REAL fur guy. But he said, "the coyotes never eat at the pile of naked dead yotee." I think any self-repecting, hungry, songdog would eat a dead yotee.

I saw a sonddog poop one time with a candy bar wrapper, cricket, paper-clip and plum seed all in one poop. So anyway again, will a songdog eat a songdog you think? I know you guys know way more about coyotes here at this awesome site. So hep a brutha, out!

P.S. Any recipes for coyotee enchiladas...mmmmm. Boy if even if coyotees won't each other, I might BWAAHAAHAA

Posted by 3 Toes (Member # 1327) on February 10, 2010, 04:26 PM:

Mr LOCO, in short order the answer is no, except if they are hungry and then they will, so the answer is yes, but once I shot a coyote and it never got ate, so the answer is no, except for once I shot a three legged cripple eating another coyote I shot, so the answer is yes, but have only seen it twice or maybe three times so the answer is maybe. As for coyote enchiladas. I have a recipe. It is the same recipe I use for quiche. Make it up and put it in the oven at 325 degrees. Meanwhile get out a t-bone steak, grill it, and when its done, eat it. As for the coyote enchiladas (or quiche), continue to let it bake, but otherwise ignore it.

Loco, consider this your only warning. If you ask that question one more time, you will be taken to the back room for a whuppin. We aint blind and seen your question. Its being discussed in the backroom. When we have a great answer, like when this coyote either eats that dead stinkin bastard or dies of hunger, we will tell you. So CHILL!!! or Else!!!

3 Toes, your lucky. You aint on the damned panel and I was gonna write you up for answerin kwestions out of tern, but since you gave a great answer from multpal real live xperences, we will let it slide this time.

Never tried coyote enchiladas but, they taste great if you use Coyote Helper. Simply brown some ground coyote meat, add the Coyote Helper, a touch of salt and stir. Makes a great peace offering to someone who don't like you much. You'll be friends in no time. Just don't attend their BBQ when your invited!

I'm still not sure what color band works best for protecting my balls?

Anyway, I haven't been able to call in shit lately. My theory is that some coyotees are coming across the Mississippi on a train and finding themselves in Oklahoma. They have begun bredding with my coyotes and this is creating a much more inteligent species. Thoughts?

I only have time to hunt once a year for 10 minutes! I am a VERY BUSY and important person. What tips can you give me to make the most of my time in the field?
I live in the East and will be hunting within the city limits. It is illegal only if I get caught. What is the best silenced "tactical" rifle to use in my unique situation?
Besides tasting it, is there a good way to tell how fresh coyote scat is? Should I taste test for freshness before applying to my face as camo/ cover scent? Or will poking it with a stick be better?
Thanks in advance~ The New Guy

Loco, yotes is omnieateverythingoris, that means they eat everything.

But that brings up another question, would the smell of coffe act as a cover scent or draw em as a food source since they eat coffe beans?

Paul, bait him with a dead yote carcuss, if you can't find one use coffee beans.

Thank you DAA, you da man!

Brad, it's the mountain lions I tell ya!

Andy, you's close enough I could get Brad and drive up to pay you a visit if ya don't watch it! We okies stick together and I hear Brad is a tuff SOB!

I'd like everyone to give a warm HM welcome to two of our newest sponsers!

Aunt Jemima Syrup and Barska Optics!!! [Cool]

Flapjacks just ain't the same unless they are slathered with the best syrup in the business. Click on the link and take a look around!! [Big Grin]

Barska has really come a long way in the past couple of weeks and their new scope specifically desinged for predators is sure to be a hit with an economical price! Click on the link and checkout the HM gear shop for more details.

Andy, Leonard, if he makes it through the upcoming coup, and myself are going to Africa and Alaska on HM business this year and you can bet Aunt Jemima Syrup will be in our bags and Barska scopes will be on our rifles! [Cool]

Well, now that you mention it elbe, I did read somewhere on another board where Kelly Jackson was slamming AJ surrup. It was a pancake board and he used a different name, but I'm pretty sure it was him....something about substituting corn glootten for shugger.
Just thought I'd mention it. Hate to throw a fellow Okie under the bus, but hey...we are all 'embasidors of the sport'...right? Besides, I was hoping to weasel an admin job out of this....or atleast a AJ pro staff position.

Whoaaa there big fella. Geordie, I think maybe the AJ prostaff position could be doable for a guy with your stature in the world. But a Okie on the HM staff? I think we will see another Democrat president before that happens.

Im sorry buddy. I have to admit, for Okies, the ones here on HM are pretty good fellers, but just dont think we can trust em for runnin the show. Specially sense me an Lonnys fixin to throw elbies ass out and take over.

But thats all for PM and backroom talk. You caint know bout that stuff....

Stop them in thier tracks everytime.

Now that is sponser support.

PS you can see it all in my upcoming TV show.
AJ will be a proud sponser for sure.

Here's a picture of a large coydog that 2dog,my BFF(Best Friend Forever), took in snowfly 2000. It's at the 1/2 mark and if you look carefully yew'll notice that the top of his head stands above the fifth strand of that 5 strand Bob wire fence. Were quessen that he weighs over 70+ LB and at first thought he must be a wolf untill we saw his beade black eyes. The professor says when you see black eyes you now you dealing with a coydog.

 -

EDIT:I should mention the system that me and 2dog came up with over the last 40 yrs on quessing coyoties weight. Works on the same principal as using your mildots on your fancy lewpold scopes for yardage estimets, except we use the strands of bob wire for etimating weight.. This is how it works and weve found that with the 5 coyote wheve taken so far, its vary accurate. If the back of the coyote is even with the first strand of bob the coyote is 10LB"S or less, 2nd strand it's 20LB'S or less, thrid strand it's 30pounds or less, 4th is 40 or less and 5th strand is 50 or less. If it's taller than the 5th, it's a BIGUN and all the rules are thrown out the truck window.

This system also works on 3 strand bob except we add 20LB and then subtract 15 from the totals. There are a few faribles that you have to fudge in at times, one is how many pups the female is carrying but over time it bacically washes out.

EDIT The EDIT: And don't forget the coyotes in the rear view mirror weigh way more than they appear

Wow, this is the most informative thread ever, Leonard, will you pin it at the top of the forum?
What I've learned from the experts so far is this: Ruger 10/22 ported, with a Leeopold Telescope, not too large of an objective though. Smear Aunt Jemima all over the Coffee Beans and make sure you see the CoyWolves eyes so you can tell that it's not a Black Cougar. Was that right? Thanks for the help, great forum. Where do I buy some shirts Leonard?

Cross J,

Thank you for the information you provided about Kelly.... You seem to have the right qualities to join the HM Family. You aren't afraid to backstab or break the legs of a friend. We need that! Sometime tonight a non-descript van will drop a package off at your doorstep. Heed the directions of the tape recorded message in the package as it will self destruct in 10 seconds....

To the rest of you guys:

We Moderators do not enjoy banning people! 99% of the people on this board are great! It is the 1% that makes me HATE this job... And HATE the people involved, and HATE life in general! [Mad]

I'm thinking about enacting some sort of bounty system where if you provide information about another member posting defamatory rhetoric on other boards you will be rewarded with sponser merchandise! [Razz] Good idea? [Confused]

Greenside,

I belive you are mistaken abou the identity of that coyote.... That coyote is Red.

I first saw Red circa snowfly 1967. Red was a wandering juvenile at the time with no territory. My Bro and I got a shot at him circa 1974 and by then Red had a deep, muscular chest, sharp teeth, and was the dominant coyote in the area.

My next chance at Red was winter circa 1996 with a strong noreaster blowing. My sextant took a false reading and Red was closer to 150 yards away rather than 900. My bro and I believe Red and his clan were responsible for the caribou killed south of interstate 80 last winter. Red will not tolerate any cougars iin his area either.

I like the idea of a snitch system because I see my friend Andy becoming another "Ragin Cagen" type of character. He needs to be excommunicated and reinstated three or four times, sort od a rope a dope? Soften him up and run him out of town if he doesn't start centering his ass kissing, like it was with John Henry, if you remember?

Lonny, you make my heart swell with pride, you rascal! BFF! Barry has noothing on you. Stick with me and we might make a few bucks and score free rides on the pancake surup corporate jet.

mini editorial

We're not making any of this up. This is all culled from current and archival threads on another board that shall remain anonymous. <wink>

Yes, we have a pro bono lawyer on staff, and they have somebody who has studied law, (whatever that means) but we have other things to do with our resources than defend ourselves against frivolous lawsuits, or more correctly the threat of lawsuits.

All of this stuff is an accurate and hilarious example of the kind of traffic seen everyday on the "most popular hunting website" on the 'net. Yes, it's a joke and the joke is on those guys.

And, I'm sure they can all laugh along with us. It's all in good humor. [Wink]

This post is a result of the advice I received from my support group leader who also happens to be a prez of a major BB.

I'd like to issue an apology to the board and to all it's members and moderators, etc. The last few days, I was abit out of control on all my postings with dumb biggener questions and potentially damaging and misleading answers. Not sure how I'll ever make it up with you guys so I'd like to explain the circumstances so hopefully you'll have a better understanding of what happened,.

Most of those posts were the result of the three day drunk i was on. Seems the Wild Turkey Rare Breed i was pounding and the prescription med's I've been takin for depression, had some sort of interaction. Man, was I out of it for awhile,

Last night I had some of the worst stomack cramps I have ever had in my hole life. Thinking they were the result of the atomic turds i had for lunch, I got up and went to the shitter. While to make a long story short, I ended up shit'n out my liver and as a result of that, I fill much better today.

Went to the Dr this morning and he said there wasn't much he could do, seeing that he was just a DR of Psycology(sp).

When I told him I made a ass out of myself on the boards, He replied by saying "Don't worry about it, It'll be over in a couple of days" That really helped my peace of mind! Another thing he did that really helped me out was updateing my physicians alert card by checking the NO Liver Box in the special diet section on the card. Very Helpful indead.

Thanks for your time, patients and understanding.

Greensdie

Edit: Won't see much of me in the future, but will still be lurking. Im thinking I might by a couple dozen worms and go bait some hooks on the black board.

EDIT#2: Holie Smolie, just opened up the bill the Doc sent home with me. He's a very, very proud man. Wish I hadn't held out so long for that OBAMACARE, but don't worry about me, Im sure I can get it coverd by a medicare hardship.

Ya'll are off topic and Leonard might bail on the T-shirt raffle if ya'll don't simmer down. Back to the topic, I have a legitimate pro-staff question:

If I was planning a trip to hunt in the SW and saw what looked to be a pack of four legged ponchos and burlap running across a field, should I assume that those are Coyotes keeping warm from the mange? I'm from the north so I have no idea what the border dogs can or will do to get downwind of me and sample the Aunt Jemima and Beans. What color should I paint my ladder and AR before I make a trip like that and if I put Red Dykem on my contacts will it give me night vision? Thank you Pros, I appreciate the help.
Also...CD quality or 45's?

Hold all the concerns about our tax exempt status until we get back from consultations. All your questions will be answered, in do time. I promise. In the meantime, please do not jeapordize your status by PM ing the moderators, they have their hands full answering legitimate questions from folks that need help. We have addressed this issue b4, do a search on 501c, (I think it is?) and we need to put this puppy to rest.

Like Barney says: It's all good folks!

In the meantime, foxxpro has some highly effective new Yote sounds which can be bundled with most of the official PM gear. It's all Pro Staff tested and approved so buy with confidence. Buy early, buy often!

Notice to HM Membership:

It is no secret that HuntMaster$ has gone through some growing pains over the past few days. Regrettably, some members have CHOSEN to quit posting or go elsewhere. That is their decision. Every day we are being flooded with new members joining the HM family, which leads me to believe we are doing something right!! [Cool]

Contrary to rumors floating around the various lowbrow predator boards, the Admin$tration and Moderator$ at HuntMaster$ DO NOT receive a dime for their efforts... [Wink] Our $tatu$ a$ a $ucce$$ful, non-profit bu$ine$$ has created some jealou$y within the industry. We will take the high road approach and evade any and all accusations. [Cool]

Some have asked about happenings in the "backroom" We mainly just discu$$ mundane things a$$ociated with board operations. Things that most of our members with low-level educations, would not understand anyway... [Frown]

The recently added bounty system is working well to ferret out subversive members. HM would like to commend Cross J for his efforts in nabbing two transgressors. [Smile]

If you have questions about HM, please PM a Moderator. They will answer them for you. If you continue to have questions, we can arrange for Andy and Cross J to stop by your house for further "convincing" [Mad]

Have a great day!

Crikey! Is that a pair to draw to, or what?

(what Lonny said) anything reported back to us where a member disparages Pm or any mod on any other board can and will have repercussions. You don't want that. In fact, if we find that you are using another screen name, and we can trace your Ip, that is grounds for throwing you into the backroom for serious consequences. You don't want that.

Now that I have been properly banned, (Thank you Lonny, your attention to detail has been noted and is appreciated) I have updated my resume and can pursue corporate sponsers.

A few pages ago, there was a question about cover scents, and..........

Caller, are you there??????

"Uh.......Hel.....Hello??"

Yes, caller. What is your question??

"Do cover scents really work???"

No.......... Next question please.

"But........what can I do about scent?? I'll do ANYTHING to get my first yote. I thought misting was the thing."

Ok.............This is not to leave this board. This is really secret stuff that would normally require a special handshake to learn. Pay attention;

Cover scents are a gag started in the late 1800s by Leonard & John Henry. They were sitting around a campfire when one of them wondered if they could get somebody to stand in a cloud of urine. In the early 1900s Rich Higgens was let in on the gag, but Rich has been pulling the gag for so long now that he even belives it works.

Now...........if you're REALLY serious about getting that first coyote and joining the ranks of the big dawgs, there is a way to be scent free and bring them yotes into .17 rimfire mag range.

In Nephi Utah, there is a predator control outfit that ***** a trapline product called NorthWest Call. It's basicly pure skunk juice in Vaseline. Good stuff!!! Get a lot of it, and a basting brush. Here's what you need to do;

Shower in a scent free soap, to be named as soon as my sponser request is answered.

Shave your entire body with your skinning knife. Razors are for city-folks.

While you're drip drying outdoors, warm the call lure until it melts. Add coyote urine if hunting coyotes, elk urine if hunting elk, etc. Now bast your ENTIRE body with the mixture. Very important to get everything; behind the ears, between the toes, under the sac, & up the crack. Don't miss nothing!!!! Now fasion a loin cloth out of an unused plastic bag and you will be able to hunt with confidence once you purchase a fine caller from one of our great sponsers.

"Gee, Thanks!! This place is great!!!!"

Don't mention it, we're here to help. [Big Grin]

What would it take to get Geordie and Brad both out of Okieland? I think they both have potential. Could we run a raffle at the upcoming Utah hunt to raise money to get em out of there? If there is enough left over after it pays our rooms, airfare and such, you know.....

KoKo, dont forget to drink the mixture in case you fart while setting a stand.

Sorry Kokopelli, but here you are mis-informing the public again. Shit, can't you guys get anything right. I swear its like hanging out with my brother in laws kids. Scott Phillips (northwest) moved to Lusk Wyoming. Those formulas are only available in Wyoming and to licensed idividuals. Don't ask me what license cause if you have to ask, then you really don't need to know. This is the same kind of crap that got me removed from a different board, just because I tried to correct the mis-informed. [Big Grin]

Posted by predatorhunter (Member # 3559) on February 12, 2010, 04:25 PM:

While I was waitin' for a reply I decided to try to skin this coyote on my own. After all I grew up on a chicken farm so, I thought how hard could it be. Well I put it up on the table and began to pull off the fur and it dawns on me; this thang is way bigger than a chicken and it's gonna take me all nite to pluck it. If it had all four of it's legs, i'd never get done. Is there a better way?

Posted by Nikonut (Member # 188) on February 12, 2010, 04:33 PM:

Did you dunk it in boiling water first?

Makes the fur just slide off real easy...

You can save the water for the next coyote so don't waste it! Makes good soup starter, too.

Well, I have a few places I would like to go but, I had better maintain my residency here for awhile. Besides, I enjoy the roll we play in national security. Can you imagine the the civil unrest if Kansas were to border Texas? Total anarchy! Also, being an Okie has provided an unquestionable excuse and the ability to side step personal responsibility....kinda like pleading 'temporary insanity'.

I was thinking about using one of those three wheel baby carriages to haul my caller and decoys out to the woods... maybe you could put one of those electric bike motors on it to make it easier to push?

You might be using the wrong speakers, too. I've heard Wildnight Technologies is putting out a 1000watt surround sound speaker system that would be much better for playing VanHalen, maybe even some Jim Morrison... [Wink]

Thanks Leonard, seems all I needed to do is use a locater call. I put in the rap tape and they began to howl every where. I followed up with some Bonjovi and low and behold poped one right in my neighbors back yard. Apparently in Germany they call them Shepards, least that's what he called it. Awlsome black and gray coyote. Couldn't of got it without the help of the biggest little huntin site in Amerca!

Lone Howl;
I have been appointed to handle your question via the 'short straw' selection method.

Before an answer can be given though, we need to know if your particular 10-22's barrel has right or left handed riflings. (Those groovey things that make the bullet spin)

Just speak in generalities, vague responds that don't pin you down when you don't know the answer; which is becoming more and more common. Don't spoil our fun, don't pull our pants down! Andy,

Sometimes, when I go hunting, I find 2 sets of coyotee tracks. By the look of things, it usually appears they are hungry. But I NEVER see any coyotees. Would it be safe, in my area, under hungry situations, in the winter, to assume...they ate eat other?!?! [Eek!]

Dont be silly Loco. Crunchy snow is the reason you never see any coyoteeeees.

Ok, point taken. [Cool]

Lone Howl; The proper way to sight in the Ruger 10-22 is to install a 30 round Ram-Line CLIP. Aim low & start pullin' the trigger and the barrel rise from the recoil will walk the bullets right into them yotes. Be sure to use hollow points for a clean kill. This set-up is good out to a couple of hundred yards, after which you''l need to upgrade to a Ruger Mini-14.

Edited to tell the rest of the story.

I have a friend from Texas who lost a nut some years ago and we all call him "Uno". A few years ago he decided to have an artificial nut put in and they use something like a ball bearing and match the size. When he's around and the story comes up he'll pull it out and bang it against the side of the truck to prove it. It's the funniest thing you've ever seen and I don't are who you are!!!

Hey all, I just found out the coolest information on another site. I just wanted you all to know that for cleaning compound on your favorite coyote rifle, you should use Skippy peanut butter! It is really supposed to work the best! I really wanted to share that with my buddys here. It will make ANY rifle shoot .5 groups at 100yds (if you do your part).

Next time your going out on a big hunt, make a couple of sandwiches with Skippy! After a few shots, you can take one side of a sandwhich and cram it through your barrell for a great cleaning!! Take a piece of toilet paper and put some Skippy on it and leave it on an Obama lovers car!! And, you can eat it too!!

Pssst. Just a quick tip. On your next stack of flapjacks, put some Skippy Peenut Budder on them and then douse them good in Aunt Jemima Syrup.

Yummmm, Yummmm!!!

I was playing my favorite sounds on my homemade e-caller. Just slipped in an 8-trac with the "Greatest of Slim Whitman", and they came in hard, Andy.

I weighed them all and they was 75-95 lbs each. That is about average here in the Florida everglades. Skeeter, Booger and me git 'em all the time that aways. I don't be for kno'en about no wolf DNA, but maybe I oughta git em checked. There isa lota wolfs round here dont cha know.

Gonna try some of that peanut butter cleaner stuff and that syrup juice. I usually shoot them out to 700 yards with my NEF rifle. But the wind was gusting. I called them ones in to bouts 500-600. My rifle shoot real flat to thereabouts.

I have a complaint! [Mad]

Too danged much information for one fella to absorb and be able to do much with. I mean, I read these posts and decided that maybe some of what's been offered here is what I need to do to turn my luck around. After the fact - brass nuts and whittlin' and all that - I'm thinking I might have got confused.

For one thing, what in the heck will pouring Aunt Jemima syrup on an Obama lover's car do for accuracy? I'm not making the connection. [Confused]

Better yet, how does spreading Skippy on a piece of bread and sticking it between my ass cheeks help either? [Confused] It was bad enough sitting through three stands this morning with an ass crack full of peanut butter and a hot dog bun (wife forgot to buy bread), and Kevin says he ain't huntin' with me no more, but I've spent most of the past two hours trying to get myself cleaned up. Every time I get started, I get a craving for jelly. [Eek!]

We need to streamline this information superhiway.

Hang in there Cdude!! It will all come together after your first successful hunt. Kinda like a lightbulb going off. Its then that you'll really be able to discuss the finer qualities of this stuff.....ya know, things like 'what bread is best with my peanutbutter? Wheat or white?', 'should I preheat my syrup?'. Heck before you know it, you'll be baking your own bread, and making your own peanutbutter. I bet you are already thinking of tapping your own maple trees.(Hint...don't use the ones Koko has pee'd on) Remember, just get out and have fun and enjoy the 'sport'.

Man this thread has taken off since the last time I checked in. I laughed till I had tears streaming. Of course, I'm easily entertained.

I've been bad. Instead of hunting on the internet I actually went out amongst real critters for a few days, wasting my time no doubt compared to what I could have learned and killed with my computer here on the 'net.

I tried for lynx but never found a fresh track. I needed some pancake syrup. I fired one shot and killed a bob-tailed coyote. Do you think it would qualify as a lynx if I post it on PM?

Thanks guys, it weighed 27 pounds. Not a real monster, but nicely furred up and minimal pelt damage with the shotgun. It popped out 15ft. in front of me (2 ft. in front of the caller) and by the time I shouldered the gun and shot, he was gone into the woods. I quickly sprang up and crouched down so I could see it and it was standing in the thick woods at 50 yards. Pop bang...DRT...two pellets in the head. Aunt Jemima all over the place and not a single coffee bean to be found.

Pros... How do I get a black Yotee and CoyWuff when a lynx comes in first? Help please.

Niice cat! I'm envious. I've called several but never shot one myself. Either the season has been closed or my partner shot it.

Where did you get the lynx in heat sound?

I have a sound I do with my voice that has called lynx to inside of 15 feet, and I don't have any idea what sound it represents except that lynx vocalize back to me and come in. Of course, that has not happened when a lynx season is open. I'm beginning to think it is a seasonal sound not syncronized with open season.

I have to drive quite a ways to get into the edge of lynx country where they are scattered widely, slightly harder to find than cougars in my part of the world. Not many chances to test sounds.

Anyway, way to go!

Yet another thought provoking question over on the pms blog..."Where to shoot them with the scattergun"now there's a real brain teaser, kind of like asking, where to point the truck when aiming to run over a rabbit in the road. Sorry for the confusion, I was strictly using a custom rabbit sequence comprised of mostly high pitched, rapid rabbits and hares. Volume was LOUD though and that cat still wanted to put his head into the speaker apparently.

"Aunt Jemima, coffee beans and Lynx-In-Heat estrous bleat did work though for this guy:"

Thanks for not laughing at me, or not too much anyway.

I've got a plan for an Aunt Jemima mister that will be foolproof for coyotes and lynx when I get it patented. I'm taking pre-orders right now. It only works on FoxPro units since everybody has one or will get one, so it covers the entire hunting market. Believe me, you don't want to be downwind of this mama.

Sorry, my dyslexia must have kicked in. That was a 72 pound cat, mixed up my numbers. Still, it was the sponsor products that did all the work. If Leonard would send up some nice HM paraphernalia, I would've put it to good work. Maye he'll have some promo sponsor photos from his expedition he's on and all of those black yotees & black panthers he's after.

Tundrawookie,

Nice job on the cat! [Wink] Did you camo that speaker yourself? Looks real nice.

Yeppers, that's my patented 3M Foamtape on the outside and handle and White Electrical tape on the inside of the speaker. Works good, is cheap and easy to change out during other season's.

Here's an actual question from another site... Anyone have a suggestion for these guys? [Razz]

Are there any coatings available to make the brass more visible after ejection? I was thinking about hitting a few brass with some red or orange Dykem "stain" (not the L/O fluid); anyone else have any ideas?
----------------------------------------------

I started laying out a big tarp when we shoot and that seems to catch most of our brass and makes clean up quick and simple.
My AR10 still seems to spit some pretty far away but we still find most spent cases.
Since I started reloading I have become a mizer when it comes to brass
---------------------------------------------

Ok, am I the only one who likes using card board boxes to carry my stuff when I go out to shoot?
When I am shooting, I just tip the box to the side, and catch my brass.

Or do I need to go buy an expensive special catcher thingamabob to be part of an elite group..
----------------------------------------------

I don't think you gentlemen are completely smelling what I'm stinking...

While making yote stands it would be difficult to throw out a tarp and remain consealed. As for the brass catcher, not the most tactical piece of funiture to have dangling from an AR in the heat of battle.

I'll probably add a rubber deflecter to reduce brass ejection range, but I'm still going to have to dig around in the grass and brush at my feet. The majority of my stands are in low light conditions, so a little color might be an advantage. Nothing simpler then picking up a screaming yellow 20ga round dropped in the grass, darn thing stick out like a sore thumb.

... are ya'll down wind now?

Hard to believe these guys are allowed to own guns! [Eek!]

I cannot believe those guys over there don't know about brass magnets!!!

The key is to shoot left handed and use the right hand to catch the brass as it's ejected. Not only does it let you save your brass, it keeps your hand warm too!

Everyone with an AR knows when you shoot out the drivers side window you drop the visor to the correst angle and open up your front shirt pocket and the empties go right in it.

Saves on cracked windshields and plugged defrosters.

Now that's thinkin with your dipstick!!!! WHACK!!!!!!!!

Dang Kelly! You are murderelizifying those critters this year. Cool Blackish coyote! Are his legs as bald as they look? Neat white tip-tipped tail.

Have you had a year this good before? I don't suppose we have seen nearly all of your coyotes this year? Numbers boy, NUMBERS.

Fer real, fer real. How many YoteeDogs and Meowers?

Posted by Kelly Jackson (Member # 977) on February 22, 2010, 06:44 PM:

Thx Loco. No this is my best year. Last year I shot 95 or 97 coyotes, I don't remember for sure right now.

This year I have shot, as of this evening
132 coyotes. Just killed another right before dark.
26 coyotes shot by my partners.

13 bobcats and one fox.

I owe a lot to that extra boost I get from AJ every morning, and cleaning my barrel regular with skippy. Never shot better.

Catch you later
Kelly

PS GO AJ.

Kelly, how much of your success do you attribute to Fruit Loop's invention and promotion of the "Ladder Technique"? I see yours leaning agin the wall behind ya.

I'm owing a bunch of credit to Barry for the hot tip on making a stand while standing up. If this shit keeps up, a machine gun makes a lot of sense.

Good hunting. LB

LB,
I am too lazy for all of that. I will just make my stands where I can shoot them off my stool.

Hey-how did your hunting trip go??

No, Coach. None of us ever had a camera for such things, except rarely.

Good hunting. LB

edit: the above pic was taken yesterday.

Thanks Tim.

My guide kept hinting for a $6,000 tip, so; what the hell? He run 'em in for me, like a Beagle Toler. Child's play.

Good hunting. LB
