The US government is after our money even if we leave the country. An expat may have to pay taxes to the IRS and to the country he moved to. Before you can leave, you must prove 5 years of taxpayer compliance which can be costly to prove. The only way out is to renounce citizenship and turn in your passport. To turn in your passport you need to pay $2,350 to cover a very excessive processing fee.

Well, I will share my thoughts. I've been to a few of those places and there is no doubt that you feel stripped naked of any civil rights you ever thought you had. So, the past ? 20 years or so, I like Hawaii over Acapulco, Cancun or Cabo. It's the same tropical flavor without losing your civil rights.
