Has been more or less put on hold.
With the dog getting hurt 6 weeks ago we've gone into limbo.
The cast's kept rubbing the hock and causing it to bleed.
Then the splint started rubbing so the vet cut it down and that caused more problems. We've went back to a full splint and curtailed his walking big time. So far we've been able to keep this splint on for 2 weeks now. So hoping Monday when we take him to the vet we have some good news the leg is healing correctly.
We are going to wrap the leg/foot Sunday in as good of water proofing we can and take the new canoe for a paddle. I have a feeling we may be swimming back to shore so might be best not to go to the middle first thing. [Big Grin]

Yeah, use that stuff they advertize on TV for when you saw the boat in half!

Vet bills. I have a friend in Dallas that spent a small fortune on her very senior cat, and in the end he still faded and died as all the rest of us.

I know that having Tillie spayed cost me $405 and a hundred buck for Benedril when she started eating into a cactus to get a lizard and her tongue swelled up to at least 3-4 times normal and I was afraid for her breathing. She hasn't tried that stunt again, though? Oh she's tried it, just not that cactus. They say you can get an insurance policy for animals but I also heard that the coverage is very modest and the premiums high enough that you might think about it, twice.

That's all I got.

Good hunting. El Bee....waiting for dawn! with trepidation and anxiety and a well developed fear of needles!

Canoeing in on hold.
Splint has moved or broke. He's packing his rear leg. Go to vet tomorrow. But have contacted a major dog vet in Sun Valley that does ortho operations on dogs. Looking a major vet bills. But the dog needs to get well and get on with life.

Splint had broke and rubbing another sore on the poor guy.

Headed to Sun Valley to another vet who does surgery for this type of injury. Sounds like the dog goes into surgery sometime today.
Will wait to see if he can come home or not.

If you drive the back road to Sun Valley it isn't too long. If you drive the pavement you run the risk of driving faster and hitting critters and dodging all the other nimrods on the road. Prefer the back roads.

The main trouble with our precious pets is that they leave us much too early. I never owned a pet that I did not grieve over with fond regrets. Every one was special and dearly loved. They give so much and deserve our thanks and gratitude.

I hope your critter gets well, EW!

Good hunting. El Bee

PS edit: I think I'm going home today? I've had it with these friggin' NEEDLES! I thought you got used to it? But I damned near freak out with their probing for a vein after one too many trips to the well. Im so damned anxious to get the fuck out of here that I agreed to give myself injections for a week, at least. I've been doing the Humera injections, which is a Pen and you just push a button, but these are actual syringes, actually kind of cool looking, for a needle. The worst thing about going home is the anticipation, this process drags on interminably. As y'all might recall, I went through this similar situation two weeks ago, and by the time all the dots and tees were crossed, I didn't get home until after dark. Maybe I'll get lucky today?

Surgery this morning. Picked the poor guy up at 2p.
No swimming for 2 weeks and no being off the leash for 2 months.
What a long summer for all of us.
But it's over the worry of surgery is over.
My stress level is solely coming down just need to get rid of the headache now.

We sat is a pullout along side the hwy. Had a band of sheep on the far side of the road. Then the non stop traffic. Then a bike/walking path on our other side and the Big Wood river. Sat for several hours in the shade with a nice light breeze wasn't too bad other than the traffic noise and once in a while the sheep smell. Got out of there just as the sun was making the shade skinnier and skinner.

I'm trying to visualize what a flock of sheep smells like? Is it sorta like a distinctive urine stink? Ya just know it when ya smell it, eh?

Well, I don't know? It's been a while since I've been downwind of those kind of critters.

Hope Fido gets better.

Good hunting. El Bee

He's settling in and has slept most of the morning which is what we are wanting for now.
Joint started swelling so took the bandage off the incision to help reduce the swelling. It seems to be working.
He's on meds for 7 days to help with infection and pain.
My hotdog bill is going to get high. Not really went and bought some on sale this morning. Turkey dogs he should really like those.
Now if we could break his 2 am wake up potty call and guard the place it would be nice.
