Helium He Atomic #92 & an Atomic Mass of 238.
(Now, you knew that a smart azzed answer was coming)

But more importantly ............... Out wandering around the desert yesterday, calling coyotes, taking pot-shots at rabbits, & making the world safe from dirt clods and cow patties with my bow and a handful of arrows, Ran across a dark green bottle that looked old. Old being when you lok at the bottom of the bottle you can see that the glass has 'flowed' to the low side.
Looked it up when I got home. It's a James Buchanan / Glasgow Scotland whiskey bottle made in the 1930s.
Did I mention that I really like the desert ???

I've got a couple pieces of glass, one a purplish whisky bottle and the other is like some sort of jelly jar that just looks old.

We stayed at a mine site for a week one summer and I wished I had kept a couple of those Log Cabin syrup cans shaped like a log cabin. You know you have an old site when the cans actually rust, and there is a good amount of sardine cans, (for protein)

What I hear is that an excellent location for pristine glass is exploring under an old outhouse. That takes more dedication than I have. Then, the real detective part is in finding out where the former location is maybe filled in, etc. That's "gold!"

I know a guy that found an excellent Colt under the steps while he was salvaging Birdseye maple from the stairs. Such a gorgeous piece, I was so jealous! I actually found a gun one time. It was in such bad shape that it wouldn't have fooled anybody unless it was pitch dark. But, what a story it must have had, in a wash. Nothing else around, and believe me, I looked! But, the obvious thing is that it was repaired or modified by a twelve year old before it was lost and looked less intimidating than your average cap gun. In fact, I concluded it probably WAS a child's toy, maybe grand dad put in together for a boy. But, like a lot of things, when you have a long ways to go, it wasn't worth packing, and I didn't. (It's out there somewhere, ko ko) No, you'll never find it.... unless you are poking around Gila Bend.

I pick up a lot of rocks while wandering. I'm always looking for evidence of ancient man. Napped projectile points is one thing, but there is some that are shaped by grinding. I have a couple that I have never been able to figure out the use? And I have one that is shaped (sorta) like a miniature frying pan. One of my grandkids broke the damned thing in half. (nobody ever admitted it) And then Nancy glued it back together when I was out of town.

It's probably kind of pathetic the shit I hang on to and consider it "treasure".

Good hunting. El Bee

One man's treasure .............

I've got a section of chain-link fence with a bunch of horse shoes hanging on it, along with a couple of mule shoes and half a set of oxen shoes.
Just scrap metal to anybody else ..........

In my last class at ASU a group of us did a strategic management report on Coca-Cola. Doing the research I found out that the original Coke bottle had straight walls. Way back when coke just got started, people had to reach down into an ice box to get a soda. Coke wanted people to tell if it is a coke just by feel so they created the hour glass shape used today, that is if you buy it in a bottle. My prize piece of glass is an original Phx Arizona straight walled bottle I finally found it about a year ago. On ebay you can find a lot of straight walled coke bottles that differ greatly depending upon the bottling company.

Another tidbit I found out is in the late 1800s, there was no standard of what Santa clause looked like. Coke created the Santa we know today with a large advertising campaign that depicted Santa as a jolly over weight man in a Red Suit with white trim, white hair and beard. I put this out there in hopes one of you wins big in a game show with this information, and I expect only 50% of your winnings.

I hear ya on that!

I have a small collection of branding irons. Hanging on my block wall. I had to check, there are 5 and they are from 4 different states.

I hear ya on horse shoes, but I don't really bother with them any more, you know, it's like somebody said about tits: once you've seen one; you want to see 'em all! But in this case, with horse shoes, they are all the same. At least to me.

But, how many years now, have I been sucked into the Mystery of Oak Island? The biggest mystery so far, besides what the fuk happened to the Money Pit, is where are the oaks? But that "metal expert" finds a rusted clump, (which is AMAZING, of course) and then we find out it's from the 14th century and it's from a stove! Huh? Or a plumb bob, from pre Cambrian. And the treasure is buried by Captain Kidd or Blackbeard, or most likely.... (wait for it) Knights Templar! I am such a sucker for this show!

I read a story when I was just a kid, in TRUE Magazine or Argosy? They talk about something appearing in Reader's Digest but I never read that one so it was a man's magazine, I'm sure and I mean this was early fifties. Ever since, I have wondered who would dig such a hole? It must be quite a loot!

I have the feeling we will never find out! The damned series will be canceled before they find anything! And, why do they waste their time other places? By now, they could have dug up the whole damned money pit area instead of endless holes! If it weren't for TV they would have run out of money at least 3 seasons ago!

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: Az, I'm under the impression the Santa image is from a magazine ad with a whole sack of cartons of Winston cigarettes, and Jolly old Saint Nick with the rosy cheeks looks exactly like (wait for it)
ko ko of course!

PS how he keeps from snagging that beard in his bowstring is a mystery?

And let's not even talk about the collection of wire insulators I've found. [Roll Eyes]

Glass telegraph insulators, I assume you mean? They are probably all long gone, there is no unexplored tracks anymore and years ago when nobody cared you could get all you wanted, if you climbed the poles. That run along the border from Columbus, NM to El Paso had about 50 miles of insulators, at one time. Last I heard, they weren't worth anything, except for the charm, nostalgia or whatever you want to call it? I have a couple that have the wood spud they are screwed in to.

What I like to find is an industry where they have a supply of chert or obsidian or jasper and they just squat there for day and seasons and year after year they show up to nap various points and scrapers. I look for all the cluttered debris and you don't have to do much digging with a trowel, especially right after a rain. They say that's the best time to walk a wide creosote forest because creosote poisons the soil preventing other weeds from forming, or germinating. So, if its wet, those "arrowheads" really stand out.

Also, if you take the time to know what a meteor looks like, that can really pay off, if you can bear to part with whatever you find. If you find something worthwhile, be careful about disclosing the location, unless you want some chickenshit BLM people to claim it. It might even be better to say you bought it from somebody and you didn't catch his name or the location where the canoe tipped over. Whatever, it's just a jurisdictional situation, so get your story straight, or you will have another "OLD WOMAN SPRINGS" situation on your hands.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: Hell, I even found an old geiger counter up around Tonopah. Never thought to keep it. Why? It was what I would call junk.
