Somebody said it was 130 in Death Valley today?

Damn! I just checked, it's 106* here, right now! And I've been out digging and planting! Lucky I didn't keel over!

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: and the humidity is terrible! Funny, lots of clouds. Like earthquake weather.

I'm going to be curious, if they cut power, if my solar will be affected? Maybe that's why they won't do it until later?

Looks like a few more days of this heat.
Been drying apples, tomatoes and apricots and the dryer is keeping the house way to warm.
Going to move it outside today. Have 2 more 5 gallon buckets of apples to dry. Then have to start canning green beans.
It's that time of year!

That's very cool! My mother used to do a lot on canning, don't ever remember green beans? They talk about botulism from that stuff, but I don't know?
My mother was big on tomatoes and pears, she always had minted pears and pears with cinnamon. I'm really at a loss to remember other stuff, but tomatoes was the winner, hands down! Big spaghetti family everybody on my mother's side had their particular type, all good, just slightly different, including mine. On my dad's side. We had a root cellar, and it was dark and damp and dusty, all at once. I don't even remember a light, had to keep the door open. In the basement, we don't have basements out here, for some reason? Don't even have raised foundations, everything is slab floors.

It was my grandfather Stanley who did all the cooking. My grandmother Aurelia was French and her maiden name was Normandin and they are supposed to be big time cooks and she sure did it right on all the holidays, but day to day, it was Stanley. He could make that pork chop gravy like nobody since. He always had a big crock of grapefruit wine going in the pantry, we used to steal the raisons. To this day, there is no better wine. That crock alone must have weighed (what?) 75 pounds, empty?

My father's sole contribution in the kitchen was breakfast, just about everything you'd expect. Of course that only happened on weekends, otherwise, we had to go with cereal, maybe toast, do it yourself.

Nancy didn't know a damned thing about cooking and I was not very patient about it. But she learned, from my mother who was a very good cook. Nancy's mom could manage to fry a chicken and that was about it, other than her signature German chocolate cake. She was a Wintermute, but married an Irishman in George Donahue. Nanc identified with the Irish and the main thing she could do was Corned Beef which she did very well and I try to keep the tradition alive but this last one was a disaster, very disappointed!

The only thing I have canned is Boysenberry preserves and we did it for several years with a supply of free berries growing along an abandoned railroad track. It's the same every year, you give people your jam and of course, never get the jars back, so always buying more. Oh well. But it was still the best. Anyway, it's a dying art. If earthwalker keeps it going, more power to her!

Good hunting. El Bee

We made pickled beets and canned them last week.
Been drying apricots and finally done with them.
Picked another batch of green beans need to can in the morning.
On second batch of apples. Set the dryer out under the cabana and it has helped the house stay a lot cooler today.
I canned/learned from my mom. I'm glad I went and canned with her before she passed away. I still have a ton of questions at times. I either figure it out or I call a friend who still cans items and she helps me out if she can.
Husband is learning how to prep veggies for canning. Canning is easy it's the picking and prepping that is the killer.
A guy came up from the Boise valley yesterday with a enclosed trailer of fruits and veggies. He just about sold out of everything. He'll be back in 2-3 weeks. We ordered a box of Wine Crisp apples.
We did buy a couple little boxes of black berries. Mine came up late and only one bush has set berries and even black they are sour as all get out. Raspberries came up late and only one set berries too. Crazy year. I haven't tried to many tomatoes to can. I did dry a small batch of cherry tomatoes.
Today is hot and now were smoking in. Mainly from Cali fires. Idaho doesn't have that much fires going on for a change.

Being a fan of Chaucer's Mead I'm still trying to get past Grapefruit Wine.

Long ago some friends used to make Dandelion Wine. Good stuff !!!

Yeah, well. I can see why you might turn up your nose at grapefruit wine. I don't know why, except maybe the raisons, but it did not at all taste like grapefruit. Yes, different, but if you didn't know, in a million years, you would not guess grapefruit.

And. When you think about it; "raison" is (I think?) just the French word for grape and a raison is a dried grape, so there you go, it's wine made with dried grapes. I would love to have some. Nothing to get drunk over or as a habit, but I never knew anybody that didn't like it.

To top it all off, or the icing on the cake. Grandfather had a musical bowling ball. When you lifted the lid it played a turn and the wine decanter was in the middle surrounded by crystal shot glasses. I assure you, this was quite a treat for all the grandkids. My cousin has that bowling ball, and I am so damned jealous I can't see straight! That's right up there with the Bronze French 8 pounder that my father made, (I think it's on a 1/4 scale) including the carriage, and through a series of events, my niece gained it from my sister, (the executor) who got it when my mom died. That one doesn't set too well with me either. We use to set it off in Santa Monica harbor during the parade of boats. One time my dad blew a hole in his teak railing when he miscalculated the elevation....and it was stuffed with toilet paper, no shot, it's 5/8" bore. I even have the mold because nobody else recognized what it was, picking through all the leftovers, and I didn't mention it, either. Maybe I'll leave it for Andrea when I pass, nobody else knows what it is or where it is. Don't tell anybody! I'd want it to be a surprise; or maybe by then, lead will be outlawed, I guess it already is, here?

Good hunting. El Bee

Perhaps if I alerted the authorities, they would make sure you comply with orders. Beat you up is always optional.

Good hunting. El Bee

I won't, don't worry. But I'm still pissed. I have to wear one everywhere!

Masks are now mandatory in Lemhi county/Salmon.
They had a rash of C-19 like 59 cases in one day.
Way to many out of state people up here trying to hide out.
They could be super carriers and don't even know it.
We wear masks into our grocery store here. Way to many people coming in out of county right now. Only place I wear one is into stores where everyone else goes.

Be stupid and either pass it on or bring it home to your family.

You know, as time goes by, (you must remember this)
I'm not very scared of this virus. What is the actual numbers, about 1/2 of one percent fatalities? That's just about as dangerous as the common cold. Frankly, I think we are being played by the control freaks.

Did you hear that in New Zealand, the largest city, and I don't know what that is, but they had an "OUTBREAK" of FOUR PEOPLE so they completely shut down a city with a population of one million! That fit's my definition of overreaction, pretty good.

The thing that drives me nuts is the sum zero information. Masks are good, masks don't help. We NEVER get a definitive statement on anything! And still, people are being arrested for the civil disobedience of failing to wear a mask; and at the same time, Democrats and Mayors and Governors are condoning rioting and looting as "reparations".

I'm totally sick of the situation and I'm telling ya, if Biden gets elected, I might snap! Hard telling what additional measures he will dream up....for our own good! First thing that will stop this PANDEMIC is to "Hell Yes" come and get my AR14 and AK47!

It's hard to imagine citizens voting for a man that shows all the signs of dementia! That's how much they hate Trump! And, I think it's a good bet, at this point that there will be no debates! How the hell they will get away with it, I don't know, but it's going to be another measure to protect us from this stupid virus! It seems unlikely that Democrats will risk showing the whole country that Biden can't complete a sentence! But, Republicans have no balls any more, so they probably won't object?

It's been a crazy year, but we ain't seen nothing yet! Wait until Biden wins, or (better yet) wait until Biden loses! Wall To Wall Riots!

Good hunting. El Bee

I hear you LB.
But the one thing NO ONE knows what is C-19 going to do to your body down the road. What is it going to enhance and bring on.
Know to 2 people having C-19 than shortly after recovery died of hear failure brought on by C-19.
Newly retired I want to have several more years to enjoy it.

Stopping a virus with a mask is like stopping mosquitoes with chain link! We have been played from the outset, Just think 53 million more deaths and we will have matched the swine flu !

It isn't so much from stopping you getting it.
It's about when you cough or sneeze and you are containing YOUR droplets in case you have it and don't know it.

Don't wear one it's your decision. But any family member with health problems or doing chemo think about them.

I was born contrary, cultivated the obnoxious attitude until perfection and here I am. It doesn't even matter if they MANDATE something guaranteed to work. like fasten your seat belt, a proven advantage, I'm still against it because it contains the threat of arrest and execution.

I am as "sheeple" as the next dickhead, but don't push it, Amigo! What sets my teeth chattering and gives me the VAPORS, is this fuking contradictory advice from on high! Understand, I'm not willing to accept good intentioned scientific advice any more than mandatory edicts transmitted via the PinkoPress from various mayors and governors. They all suck! You can't believe any of it! But, these cocksuckers are more than willing to cut off my power and inject concrete into my sewer connection at the first hint of non compliance!

Take GLOBAL WARMING, for instance. For many years, it was a theory, but now it has attained the status of a proven fact, without actually having to prove anything. Now, they are so confident that they can propose arrest and incarceration just for doubting what has become common knowledge. We "deniers" are not laughed at any more, we must keep our opinions to ourselves, or risk (no joke) fines and imprisonment. Yes, our friends the Liberals are going to punish those that have the nerve to disagree.

I cannot believe that normal, average Americans are ready to give up everything and allow the Democrat/Media Cabal to rule the country exactly like 1984. It won't be pretty. There could still be a few of us that will not submit. We will be quickly squashed like a duck on a June Bug. Gov Newsome does not tolerate dissent, SWAT will go house to house kicking in doors, hog tying the rabble and doing whatever else is necessary to force compliance...."are you now, or have you ever been a member of the NRA, or any other subversive organization?"

Get it?
Good hunting. El Bee
