I got something yesterday from San Bernardino County Tax Collector! Yikes! I'm thinking, what could this be? Didn't they get my check? No, they got it, all right. It was inside! And I'm thinking, was the amount wrong? Where did I fuk up?
Nope. After reading the letter, it said the taxes were already paid. When I refinanced, the mortgage company apparently paid the property taxes that were due on December 10. So, this is like FREE MONEY! Tear up the check and add the amount to my balance.
Then I'm thinking, they warn people that if that postmark is after midnight on the 10th, there is a severe penalty! At least, it strikes fear in my heart, I sent it a week early!
So, why did they take their sweet time returning the check? Over 5 weeks? I should charge them a severe penalty, 5 weeks interest at 10%! Fat chance. But, it will come in handy to pay for roof rat exterminators! And, they don't work cheap!
