28* last night & snow on the ground. I did NOT move to southern Arizona for 28* of global warming.
Hope that your lady does well with the chemo.

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. I sure hope she recovers. I am exactly like you, when my wife died, 14 years ago, I still have not recovered. I'm completely lost without her. But, I'm grateful for the 46 years I had with her. What a loss, she was so good.
Frozen pipes. I would think you know better? your water lines should be at least 12" underground and everything above ground should be insulated or wrapped with heat trace. In the ice cream plant, we would even install heat trace inside of condensate drain pipes. I'm told that "back east" which is at least Iowa or Missouri they install heat trace when they pour concrete driveways, as long as there is some slope but it could develop into a skating rink if not careful.
I HATE COLD!
Good hunting. El Bee
edit: I got news for you, ko ko! Eastern Arizona ain't Arizona in the traditional sense, and you know that. It's cold over there! And, if 28 degrees is all you get, it could be worse, you know? Ask Victor, he's been in that area a bit longer and could share some cold stories, I bet! In our local mountains, which see very low temperatures because of the elevation, they have drain valves on all exposed water lines. But, I'm not a mountain type person, except to visit. I remember one time, up at Big Bear, sliding almost three blocks and if it wasn't for a small curb, I would have crashed into the corner of a house! Scared the shit out of me! But, it's nice to visit in the summer. [ December 29, 2019, 10:04 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

We've been in the single digits for over a week now. Hit 30* yesterday and lite snow all day. Our water lines are over 6' down and I can understand why.
Sorry about your wife. Stay strong.
Did freeze up for a couple of days 4 years ago. Figured out the pump house wasn't warm enough turned the heat up and after 2 days thawed out and been okay since. Good thing I've lived out hauling water and knew how to do it and where to find it. There is a nice spring in town that the owner allows anyone to stop and fill up. But that year we went to 32 below.

My pipes are three feet down and all exposed are wrapped with electric heat coils and insulation I think it froze where it exits the tank and is only a foot below the surface but it is wrapped in insulation no heat wire ! Today we go to Prescott to get a port installed for the chemo. she will go for chemo two days in a row weekly for six months . Did I mention I hate the city and traffic ! Thanks for the well wishes she will be fine and is stronger than I will ever be .

A port? I think Nancy had something like that surgically sutured to the side of her neck because the needle inserted in the back of her hand wouldn't allow the volume of drug required. I had to sign permission for the procedure which was done by the same doctor that inserted the needle to get a specimen from the tumor on her liver. I guess I'll never forget those 9 days.
Best of luck, Paul! Good hunting. El Bee
edit: dang! 3 feet down sounds like overkill? Whatever? [ December 30, 2019, 08:49 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]
