Never prepared when in the flat lands and in your own house.
Nice thunder storm this morning. Mostly was seeing cloud to cloud lightning a lot of grumbling then the rain came and got .08 which for here this time of the year is a good rain.
Went into the bathroom to brush the teeth and dang if it didn't hit close to the house and I know I came close to hitting the ceiling. Didn't even see the flash but the crack was a lookout type of on top of you boom. I really hate that!

You're prepared for it at the lookout. But not down in a valley.
I've had my fair share of the flash, crack, boom faster than I can type this. Also the shaking of the building added in.

So what happens when lightening hits that tower when you're in it ????
I'm assuming lightening rods & such but still ………..

The building is grounded big time. Hope to really never find out.
Have too many towers above me that usually take the direct shots.
The whole mountain top has grounding running all over under ground. Not safe to be outside. Even the static bleed off is dangerous. I found out one time touched the truck with right hand. From the elbow to the wrist was numb for a hour.
There is burn marks on the steel siding on one corner of the building from an old telephone wiring still hanging on the building.
Can't get people to believe how dangerous it is. Just a few weeks back had some idiots out in the parking lot. They had walked in from the gate at 2 in the morning just to watch the lightning. Only good thing was it came in on top of the building and it was cloud to cloud. Was just getting ready to yell at them to get out of there when they took off.
I was caught downstairs and I wasn't going out the door to get up the stairs with steel railing to just sit and watch the lightning. BLM lookouts have a separate living quarters from the actual work tower. They also charge $5.00 a night to sleep there which has been an on going feud since we started there. Dept of Interior is totally different than the Dept of Ag which is FS.
