...Ecallers were outlawed? How far would it set back the popularity of predator hunting? Mark

My guess would be quite a bit. We live in a gadget electronic world. Many would be lost without all this shit.
I believe a lot of people are intimidated by a mouth call, for fear of putting the wrong sound out there ?

I hate to say it but that might be the best thing ever, for coyote hunters.
On the other hand, just the thought of some authority somewhere deciding that what is needed in this country is to outlaw electronic game calls.
THAT REALLY BURNS MY ASS !
Thanks, LoneHowl. You really made my day.

Like others here I lived without an ecaller for a lot of years and managed to call in and kill a whole bunch of critters.
Every time I see someone inquire as to what kind of caller to buy to get into the sport I have to laugh. So many people not willing to learn something as simple as blowing on a predator call.
Then there are the guys who try to convince newbies that you need a post graduate degree to call in and kill a coyote.

lol sorry LB.
You know, it was just something Ive often thought about. Here in Kali you cant call grey fox with an ecaller, a decision I think the predator hunting clubs back in the day had a hand in, for noble reasons? I think if that happened on a wide scale, it would discourage 75% of callers out there...not to mention destroying the contest thing nowdays..as in...no one will participate if they have to 100% handcall.
Maybe I shouldnt even post that in public. Mark [ April 13, 2016, 02:35 PM: Message edited by: Lone Howl ]

I had to hand call for thirteen days in Africa. I mean NIGHTS, days we were seeking other game. But, anyway, that's not easy, folks.
Fucking rules for everything! There are many people, maybe a majority that think if it's not specifically allowed, it's illegal. That's exactly backwards. Unless it's prohibited, it's allowed.

Yeah, outlawed would be no good. I guess it's like an A/R. I have no desire for one, but they sure as heck shouldn't be outlawed.
Back to the e-caller topic. It is what it is. Just makes a guy wonder how many educated coyotes are out there now as a result.
I guess what bothers me, is everyone goes straight for one. A young guy @ work bought one. I asked if he ever tried hand calls. Nope...
Whatever, I'm gettin' old.
(edit) I think LB & I talked a while back about ranchers with diesel pickups (running) would set e-callers on the hood, and couldn't figure out why no coyotes would come in ?
Shit-I give up. Gotta go spray weeds around the ol'milking barn. Somehow that relaxes me. [ April 13, 2016, 05:24 PM: Message edited by: Dave Allen ]

I think it would set coyote hunting back A LOT. As mentioned above, people nowdays that get into coyote hunting wouldn't sit in a stand for 15 minutes blowing on a mouth call due to total lack of confidence. And to have a coyote come charging right up to YOU and not an ecaller yards away would freak a lot of wusses out. And yes those ecallers do educate the crap out of coyotes. Freind of mine Ron bought a fancy FoxPro and we tested it against just me calling and over the period of a year I outcalled the ecaller with my own funky homemade mouth calls almost 2-1. Not scientific but those were the results. and to get barked at as soon as you turned on that ecaller was frustrating but interesting as it showed Ron and I that those coyotes did know what Scrambling Jack or whatever it was playing had been heard many times before. The sound is ALWAYS the same. I just think those that lack confidence in a mouth blown call are just missing out on a very useful tool.

It wouldn't bother my calling if they did ban ecalls. I use to strictly hand call. I got into the ecaller to take my young grandson with me. He is grown up now and I'm going back to hand calls. I really don't see any difference between them.
It is bullshit to outlaw ecalls IMHO.

Just another tool in the shed, Walt. And, I think coyotes aren't really that discerning, if a hunter is doing things right. Addressing the common conception that every coyote has heard "Lighting Jack". I used 8 track tapes with four sounds for many years, same sounds, same places. Depends on when it is and where you are.
I'm not suggesting that howls might be the only sound that works, since they have heard every distress sound that Foxpro has to offer. However, I do think that they are more suckers for howls as a stranger in the back yard. That always evokes a different type of approach which I describe as: Coming in, while looking for his wallet he dropped somewhere around here.
As far as Super Dave's comment; yes, some people are pretty dense. We had this cattle rancher that told us his place had never been called.
Once we had spent a day and a half, and noticed his coyotes were extremely call shy, it turned out that he didn't mean his lawyer wasn't spotlighting at night! It also didn't mean that he was not stopping and shooting at every coyote while driving. It also didn't mean that he wasn't setting his FoxPro in the hood of his truck every time he pulled up to feed and check his cows.
What he meant was: he had never sat behind a bush, wearing camo and made a stand, so, in his mind, his property had never been hunted, predator hunting like in his videos. On this property, every coyote ran the other way, upon seeing a vehicle. This was not a question of educated coyotes to the sounds on a Foxpro, a hand call produced the same result. An unseen coyote would run 600 yards to a high point, then stop and search the source of the sound.
Can't make this shit up! Never been hunted, my ass!
Any way you slice it, a wonderful tool, like a sophisticated ecaller in the wrong hands, is hurting the sport.
Good hunting. El Bee

I think you should not be able to use an ecaller until you can prove you can call predators with a handcall. I also feel like you shouldn't be able get a drivers license unless you can drive a stick shift first.....lol We're making it to easy on the youth of today.....
