Like I mentioned in my thread about not being dead, the coyote hunting was pretty good prior to the wind showing up. In December and part of January I had a good time mixing coyote hunting and the occasional fishing trip.
I won't bore you with a ton of dead coyote pics but will post a few along with some fish pics that represented some pretty good times afield.
First up was this coyote. I had traveled to the far north reaches of the state and hunted for most of the day with a good friend of mine who is much younger than I. He's relatively new to coyote hunting but one heckuva a good fisherman. We hunted hard but the coyotes just weren't cooperating. I was finally able to call one up for him and he killed this beautiful little female.
We were tired and decided to call it a day. I dropped my partner off and then drove another half hour to my home. As I was headed to my house I realized I had just enough time for one more stand before dark. I was really tired but as long as there is a chance I try to always make an effort. I couldn't believe it when about 5 minutes into the stand this big male showed up. I killed him. Got a couple photos and then pert near killed myself getting him back to the truck. It was all uphill and about half way back I was really having a tough time. I've hauled many coyotes out of here before and couldn't figure out what my problem was. Then it dawned on me that I hadn't eaten anything since early that morning and had been hunting for 10 hours straight. Basically I was just out'a gas. All I can say is it sure felt good to reach the truck and go home to a warm meal.
A week or two later my same partner had promised to show me how to fish for burbot ling. I had never caught one before and really wanted to try fishing for these bizarre looking fish. My pard made good on his promise and we had a heckuva a good time reeling this eel looking creatures in.
One other highlight from this winter's furfest that I do want to share though is this coyote. Normally all the coyotes around here have burrs in them. The fur quality generally sucks and killing one without burrs virtually never happens. So when I walked up to this absolutely flawless coyote I was blown away. I've killed other beautiful flawless coyotes in other regions, but this is the only one in this county that I've ever seen. This is one of the prettiest I've had the privilege of taking. This one doesn't go to the fur buyer. This one is getting tanned and getting hung up as a wall hanging in my living room.
We snuck another ling trip in there. Picked up a couple nice rainbow trout as well. I think I could really like this night fishing for ling. I bet I do it a lot more in the future.
Just one final note. The rifle in all the photos is my new custom built 6.5 Creedmoor. I never knew I could like a cartridge so much. It doesn't do near the damage on coyotes as my 22-250 does and it really kills coyotes like a lightening bolt. I'm plenty happy with this investment. My poor 22-250 has become a safe queen.

Wow! That is all I can say...that is one of the prettiest coyotes I have ever seen!

Man looks like you've been livin the dream for sure. I'm going to start getting after the Walleye here pretty soon. Love this time of year. Boy those are some damn pretty Coyotes you got there.Not so much on the Burbot.lol

And a great reason, I miss fishing and after leaving the Midwest to live in AZ I can't hardly bring myself to fish here. Great pictures by the way and thanks.
