Even though I am both his father and his art teacher, it doesn't mean that my youngest son doesn't still absolutely amaze me with his artistic skills. Last week he sat down and freehanded this drawing in about 2 hours. The kid is only 11 years old! He's a freak'n genius when it comes drawing. He is soooo much better than I was when I was his age. It's scary to think what he might be capable of creating by the time he is an adult.

Now the question is, `At what age do you introduce him to Frank Frazzetta and Boris Vallejo` ??

Koko, those are two of my favorite artist's and they had a great influence on my work in my early years. I still think Frazetta is the best fantasy artist to have ever picked up a paint brush.

Frazetta's artwork was used on the Conan novels. There were times that the cover art had nothing to do with the story line and no one seemed to care.

I have posters from both artists in my gym; they fit right in with the overall dungen décor.

I'm of the belief that art instruction will only advance someone so far. Your son has a genetic gift that you have passed on to him. Keep him encouraged in pursuing this amazing talent.

That is simply amazing, Troy! What talent!

I am a firm believer that artistic talent is a gift from God...it is something that can be brought out in a person, but you can’t ‘teach’ that ability.

I agree, booger. I have come to think that each of us is born equal, except that each of us is endowed with some special skill. Call it talent. Call it whatever you want to call it, but God shows Himself through each of us in some special way. This young man's gift may be art, and it may be something entirely different. A lifetime of experience will reveal his gift.

But, it's how we deal with this gift that, IMO, determines the character of a man. When complimented, a humble man accepts the kind words and passes the credit to God, acknowledging that what he can do is God working through him. An arrogant man leaves God out of the equation. True sadness is when a guy lives an entire life and never tries to find his talent, or as Steve Martin termed it, his "special purpose".

You definitely have a basis from which to teach, ursus.
