I took my youngest daugther fishing today on the Mighty Missouri and the river was kind to us. It was a day that was better than as good as it gets, and better than great! Both my daughter and the fish are getting bigger.
Here's my daughter with one of the biggest trout she's ever caught.
With another...
She didn't quite outfish her old man, but she did do well. I was fortunate to land a few as well.
This one tied the score of 2 each.
Finished strong and broke the tie breaker with this very nice rainbow. The rainbows are spawing right now and their colors are just absolutely something else.

Geeze, I'm canceling my dream trip to Northwest Territories for Arctic Char. Now, I am penciling in Montana.
Thanks for sharing, great pics!
Good hunting. El Bee

I don't eat trout so 95% or more of the trout I catch all go back in the water. The only exceptions are really big fish I want for the wall, a child's best, foul hooked fish, or if I have a friend that really wants some trout to eat. We kept two of our fish from yesterday. One, because it was the biggest my daughter had ever caught and the other was foul hooked and didn't recover well. So I have a friend I'm going to visit this weekend that doesn't live near any good trout fishing, but he loves to eat them. Big trout, little trout, inbetween trout, all taste nasty to me, but he will be happy.

Ursus; The next time you're of a mind to, try soaking the trout in 7-Up for a few minutes before fixing as you will. (I'm serious.) It cuts the `fishy taste`.

Yeah, and that last one can be well done, aluminum foiled in the dishwasher. With a little sliced lemon.

Troy, My wife was raised in Laurel and ate a lot of trout growing up. She hates them, too. Ironically, her brother married a girl that was raised a block south of me in small town Kansas. Kathy and I could see one another's houses all of our childhood, and these two siblings from Laurel Montana find us and marry us. Just before I met Lisa, I was being recruited to fill a warden's job at Missoula. Had I taken that job, I almost think that Lisa and I would have passed one another on the Interstate going opposite directions.
I have never been to MT, and dearly want to go. But, my wife, bless her heart, says she will never do two things again as long as she lives. Eat trout, and set foot in Montana again. She has good reasons.
Also, beautiful daughter, and great fish. You are a wealthy man. [ April 22, 2014, 02:43 PM: Message edited by: Cdog911 ]

Those are some serious trout!
What did you catch'em on?
Those look like the ocean run steelhead that people catch here.
Good on you and your daughter. Didn't you post a pic of a buck she killed a year or two back?

Cdog I get the part about your wife hating trout, but that totally bites that she hates Montana. She is definitely in the minority on that one. Perhaps you should visit sometime with out her. It is about as close to heaven as I've ever been.
Lonny yes she did kill a whitetail buck a couple years ago. She was wearing a really goofy puppy dog hat. I didn't care what she wanted to wear for a hat as long as she wanted to hunt. [ April 23, 2014, 04:22 AM: Message edited by: ursus21 ]

Great pics and story Troy , I remember the puppy dog hat thought it was a 'classic'. Great fish and beautiful family.

Lonny, sorry forgot to answer your question about what we caught them on. The lure of the day was this marabou jig tied by Kit's Tackle out of Helena. http://www.kitstackle.com/Marabou-Jigs.html They call it the crawdad.
I also caught one on a black and silver Rapala. The jig though was the hot ticket so to speak.
