I don't know much, been out of town without a computer.

But, MAN! This is a tough one. I am really bothered by the tragedy. I would like to understand how it happened, but there is not much information coming out of Prescott.

Maybe we have a man on the ground in Dusty Hunter, he lives there and might be able to shed some light on what happened and how it happened. If he sees this.

I hunted the area recently, with Tom Moore, Yarnell. Hunting wasn't all that great, BTW.

Good hunting. El Bee

it sounds much like what happened here in Colo. in what was known at the time as the Storm King Mtn. fire where 14 firefighters got over taken by a very fast moving fire. The firefighters on Storm King also died under their personal protective covers. Seems like when a fire gets moving really fast, just not much a living thing can do other than duck for cover and pray.
A sad day for many. Just really sad.

Very sad. A whole group of brave, strong, and young men. Tragic example of just how dangerous the job really is. Prayers and peace for their loved ones.

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Sandy, Tornados seemingly everywhere near or in Okla, fires in Colorado & now this fire('s) in Arizona. The cold weather that hit the upper Midwest last winter was terrible all by itself. What's next? Did I miss anything? Borrowing a quote from a friend "It's a bad deal all around". Lets all pray for some relief!

As I understand it they were doing what hotshot crews do , attack at the leading edge of the fire to cut breaks in the fuel source. We were having strong and erratic winds and more than likely a down force wind caused the fire to act much like and explosion overtaking their position.
They were all found with their protective Shelters deployed , but to no avail. Truly a tragic turn of events. It does not seem real here one minute and gone the next. I have not heard news saying definitively exactly what happened what I posted was from the Prescott battalion chief on last nights news. A sad time for everyone.

Wouldn't it have been nice if there was a bomber close enough to dump that retardant on their location?

What a way to go! I always thought drowning was the most terrifying death imaginable but this deal has to be equal.

Good hunting. El Bee

These are the true heros in this country, like many others that virtually go unnoticed.

I saw, on the net, a very nice tribute at a rodeo in Prescott to these brave people.

Military, firefighters, police etc never really get the respect they deserve.

The special forces of wild fire fighters. No pussies in the group. Just like any other elite fighting group, sometimes you end up on the wrong end. They did. Wind, conditions, combination thereof, sealed their fate.

Now is when the "just let it burn" chants are gonna start. Just lettin' it burn ain't what any of those 19 signed up for, promise.
