To whom it may concern;
If you are creating a calling/hunting dvd to sell to the public, please REFRAIN from including any and all excrutiatingly slow motion replays of every shot/kill. It is extremely annoying and unnecessary.
psssst...it's a dvd..I can rewind it pretty quick if I need to see a replay.

Thank you for your support in this matter,
Sincerely,

DVD Police.

You could make this a long list.....

Don't "poke" the dead critter with the barrel of your rifle.

Don't "whisper" most of us are hunters, our hearing is shit anyway, I can barely hear normal conversation and I hate to attempt to read lips on videos

Please, please, don't say the word "awesome", I detest hearing that word in hunting videos.

And finally; don't utter the phrase "Thats what it's all about" that one will have me climbing the walls.

It's been a few years since I bought a predator DVD, but what gets my goat is when an easy shot is made difficult because of trying to get 10 more seconds of footage. Just shoot the damn coyote at the first and best opportunity... Irritating as hell for me.

I know someone that produced a DVD. It burned him out doing so. What I hate the most about hunting DVDs is when they explain the stand setup and attempt to predict where the animal will come from. The prediction almost always is correct. I would bet a paycheck that most of the time this is filmed postkill. STOP TRYING TO LOOK SO SMART. I know most of this stuff is staged.

One of the best DVD's I've ever watched was Ed Wimberly calling on a video with Gerald Stewart.

"Operation Predator", I nearly wore that disc out. Gerald told me last year that they go all the way to "Operation Predator #6" now! Maybe I need to get caught up! LOL

Nikonut you might be disappointed in the newer Operation Predator. Last I heard Ed Wimberly and H.S. had parted ways. Kind'a bummed me out as he was the main reason I watched their DVD's.

AZ Hunter your comment about "Thats what it's all about" is dead on! I am so sick of hearing that in DVD's or reading it on the web. Frankly 90% of the time when some idjit says that, he's dead wrong, which makes it even more annoying.

Can't really agree with not showing the slow-mo replay though. Guess I'm just a sick buzzard, but I like seeing bullet impact slow motion. If a guy doesn't like it I figure he can always fast forward through it.

Actually, I think spending a little time on setting up the stand can be good. I would pan the area, okay this is what we have, we just came in from back there, and the wind is blowing thataway. That is the criticism I have had with Higgins and his footage of coyotes downwind sniffing magic mist. I think it would be a lot more effective if we knew ahead of time what was downwind and where the coyote first appeared and what happens once he gets down wind. In most of his footage, we see a coyote hanging around, but you really have to be an astute observer to know that the coyote is straight down wind and isn't leaving.

Other than that, the high fives and congrats bother the hell out of me, but I can't 'splain why? It's just that most stands that I have been involved with, that shit doesn't happen.

I remember once, my son and I were with a friend that had been out several times and had not actually killed anything. Well, this was a real good area and on this particular stand, I told Rich to go over there, and he kept walking half way up the damned mountain, actually removed himself from the stand.

Well, we had about three coyotes come through the saddle to his right, and I doubt that he saw them? As it happened, junior and I both killed one and just sat there for quite a while afterwards.

A few minutes later, we heard a shot from up yonder. A few minutes later, we could see him getting the animal so we decided to screw with him, a bit.

When he got back, we just ignored him, puttering around, getting ready to move on, etc. The funny thing is, expecting congratulations and high fives, which he didn't get, he figured it out immediately and walked up to the tailgate, didn't even look around, unslung his rifle and said; "that was easy". Cracked us up!

Turned out the trailing coyote we didn't get a shot at had been hanging around, waiting for his buddies that didn't show up and Rich saw him pacing, where we couldn't. So, he started honking on his hand call and the coyote turned and headed right at him for an easy chip shot. I'm sure he will never forget that stand.

Now, what were we talking about?

Good hunting. LB

We were talking about some sort of "fast forward" apperatus on a DVD player.
Never seen it/heard of it before?

Lone Howl I don't know if you are being serious or not. Should be right there on the remote. You can fast forward or rewind at variable speeds.

Personally, I enjoy watching coyote hunting videos. A small fraction of them stink, but most are tolerable. A few are great & just don't get "old" after repeat visits...

Prolly enjoy watching them 'cause I just don't get to hunt as much as I'd like and definitely 'cause I've still got alot to learn. But mostly just for seeing them come to a call with that 'look' in the eye & ultimately catching a bullet for it...

Come to think of it, I'm a fan of 'kill shots' in general. Slow mo', super slow mo', ultra super slow mo'...I love it! Don't you guys like seeing them topple over through your scope?

'Awesome' & 'excellent' are interchangeable, but ya gotta MEAN it when ya say it! Don't be yawnin' right after describing how 'awesome' that last stand was!

Which brings me to excitement on stand. Call me a newbie, rookie, or whatever, but I get PUMPED UP when a coyote comes to the call!!! Doesn't have to be me shooting either. I'm just as happy to share in the moment with my partner(s) as being the trigger man myself. Either way, I'll be excited when one hits the dirt and the few guys that I've shared stands with can attest to that!!!

Agree about poking the dead ones, and shooting when ya can. Ultimately, if the guys on the video are having a geniune good time, then I'll be enjoying watchin' them from my stand on the couch...

My biggest problem isn't pushing buttons while watching a lot of the hunting DVD's out there. My biggest problem is staying awake through them. Some of them will cure insomnia for sure!

Never cared for the slow-mo. It seems to just be filler anyway. I'd rather they just use more scenery shots and footage of the area around the stand.

In all honesty, I don't even need a kill shot of every animal called and taken (but I realize some people dig em).

The whole chest bumping, high fiving and giggling/laughing their ass off after the kill comes across wrong to me...almost like these guys haven't done it much before. Also don't much care for the rocknroll background music in some of em. I'd rather it be more like the hunt and just the sounds of the calling and quiet (or wind)...I know boring but it's JMO.

BTW...I did like the Ed Wimberley segments too.

Ive mentioned before too; that giddy giggling is troubling to me also. Im sure they are much more tantalized and almost sexually excited over the fact they got to kill something, than the actual hunt experience. Reminds me of the photos that used to get posted over on pms, we all know the offenders, so I won't mention any names, but you all remember them, coyotes with cigarettes in their mouths slumped over the tailgate of a truck, pups literally blown in half, and that same goofy grin on the exploiter, all the same with todays video makers.
I agree those that giggle, twitch, high five and bump chests, more than likely haven't hunted coyotes all that much.

I remember asking Higgins what he thought of the Coyote Gods' video. We laughed about the high top Mexican wrestling shoes and then he mentioned about how Vic interacted with a dead coyote. He said; "he did everything but get down and roll in it."

Of course, this was before these two giants of the sport had ever met.

Good hunting. LB

Vic, In my opinion, your're right on target with your assessment that some of these guys must be getting their rocks off by the way they act on camera and probably off.

From what I see, many of the latest pred DVD's target these 2 coyote total lifetime kill sorts also. I saw a pred DVD in a store the other day that had a snarling coyote on the cover with the phrase, "A Heart-Pounding High Velocity Thrill Ride!" Damn, that sounds fun and dangerous! You can almost picture the backwards-hat-baggy-pants-wearing 19-year-old high fiving his buddies in the apartment when a coyote gets cut in half with a .50 BMG.

If were to make a pred video targeting todays crowd, I would make something along the lines of a Girls Gone Wild Goes Coyote Hunting video. Booze, babes, blown-up coyotes, and some obnoxious music in the background. Sure to be a hit.

I am just not a very good spectator. I have never owned or watched a hunting DVD. The type of coyote calling DVD that I might find interesting is one that would show calling in all kinds of different terrain. The caller would be using hand calls and using the wind and terrain to help guide the coyote into open. It would show the callers skill using all different kinds of sounds you could think of to get the coyote as close as possible, there doesn’t even need to be any killing or shooting in it. It would be more about calling coyotes than shooting coyotes.

OK, I'm readin' these responses & laughin' at myself 'cause I believe I may be guilty of violating some of the aforementioned hunting video 'crimes against humanity'...

Hopefully, my only saving grace is that I did not record & edit this little video for any sort of financial gain. I made it to show to some other NY guys that coyotes can be called in the day, just like anywhere else. Seems like alot of guys here in the NE believe our coyotes to be nearly uncallible while the Sun still shines. So I made this video (with a Canon point & shoot pocket camera) after a successful afternoon stand to show that daytime calling works here...

Anyhoo, since I'm sitting here laughin' at myself for doing so, you guys may as well be laughin' at me too...
HOME VIDEO LINK

With my guilty plea, I submit that hyperactive adrenal glands are mainly responsible for my goofy-azz enthusiasm. Also, the fact that I'm a friggin' newbie & just gettin' something of a handle on how to call coyotes in my AO is pretty dang exciting!
I certainly don't profess to be any more than that...

knockemdown,
It appears that you are excited and grateful about the opportunity to get wonderful critter. It is indeed a priviledge! I respect a hunter that respects the critter and is grateful for the opportunity to get one. [Smile] Great video, however,
there is still no proof there that a coyote can be called and killed. Next video, I hope to see a moving critter get killed, then you'll have your proof that a funny talking coyote can be called and killed in NeYaK. [Smile]

I hear you guys, and I sure as heck didn't know what I was doing as far as filming and editing on my first video and have come along way since in the making of my second.

One of my pet peeves is someone gets a free product and gets on a Prostaff and feels compelled to force feed the product throughout the video.

Here is a Prostaff Spoof clip I did last year for my friends at FNF and thought you guys might enjoy also. I was practicing trying to use slit screen and used the spoof as a test.

Prostaff spoof

TA17 if you watch the first guy in the clip it will give you an idea of how a lot of guys view you.
