Please bear with me on this: I know a lot more about shotguns and things that shoot pointed sticks than I do rifles.
My hunting partner recently got a crossbow w/scope.
(He's preparing for geezerhood when he gets old and feeble.)
Supposedly it's a decent scope but when I look thru it and put the crosshairs on something I notice that ANY minor head movement makes the crosshairs jump all over the place.
Is this normal for some scopes or are we missing some adjustment somewhere ?????
Needless to say accuracy is somewhat underwhelming.

Bear with me, as well. I don't know anything about crossbows. But, crosshairs jumping around seems like an easy question. The only mildly comparable effect would be parallax, in which the crosshairs do appear to move but it's as a reaction to your head movements, which are usually slow and deliberate.
I have heard that some types of air rifles require purpose built scopes. A regular scope can be trashed when mounted on an air rifle, especially if it is of the piston variety.
I wonder if a crossbow requires a similar type of scope? But, I just can't figure where any optical device mounted in a tube would bounce around as much as you describe? Based on my zero knowledge of crossbows, you can just about figure that my contribution is almost worthless.
But, IT WAS FREE !
There is a certain dentist in Minnesota that would be somebody to ask....if you can find him?

edit: you might consider the Bosinski Rule concerning optics, in general. For the sum of $100, what this will get you is a toy. What did the lad pay for the scope in which the crosshairs jump around?

It was a package deal but as I understand it the scope by itself goes for about $150.

What Leonard states about rifle scopes on air rifles is Gospel. My brother has proved is. This probably goes without saying, but here goes anyway. You've heard of cheek weld, right? Kinda like a release point with a bow. Same place every time. That and eye relief are going to play big in what you see through that scope. I have a buddy with a much more robust (fat) face than mine, and he can't shoot any of my rifles. I have zero experience with a scope on a crossbow, but I would think a holographic sight would be much friendlier. Ain't gonna touch one with any magnification for $150 though.

Yep, that's parallax alright!
I've shot a few different x-bow-guns with the included 'package deal' scope, and they all shot quite well.
The comb height was sufficient enough to where getting a good sight picture was easy enough to acquire & maintain. I was actually amazed how well those fuckers shot @ 40yds. No friggin' way is that "archery" (to me), but that's another story ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
As Jimzy eluded to, everyone's face is different & may or may not align well with a given fixed comb / scope height...
If the floating x-hairs presents a real problem to consistency, ditch the scope altogether and slap a parallax-free red dot optic on there. Problem solved!
