I read this morning something about the woman from Pennsylvania that was arrested for accidentally driving into New Jersey with her permitted handgun.

Near as I can tell, she voluntarily admitted having the gun and was arrested for two offenses. Possession of the gun and second, possession of hollow point bullets!

Has it really come to that? Hollow point bullets are outlawed in New Jersey?

What about thousands of "technically" hollow point target rifle bullets? Is a Ballistic Tip a hollow point? It sure as hell is!

Can you explain what's going on in NJ?

Good hunting. El Bee

PS I know, coming from The People's Republik, I don't have much room to talk. But at least we can use hollow points.

This is a true case. I don't want to comment on it because members of my agency are involved.

The law in New Jersey regarding transportation of firearms: Unloaded, cased, ammo in a separate compartment of the vehicle.

Must be traveling directly to and from a shooting range, or the store where you purchased the firearm directly to your residence with NO deviations in route of travel.

Or, may transport firearm during hunting season with a current hunting license.

I imagine the woman in question was in violation of at least one portion of the statute. It can be very tricky to carry firearms here. Best to learn the law before you do. People from other states can possess firearms while they travel through NJ.

Hollowpoint Rule...yes, hollowpoints are illegal in NJ as a general rule. However, you may own and possess them for hunting purposes. You may also own and possess hollowpoints in your home, or on a shooting range. The statute was devised to keep the gang banger from driving around with hollowpoints on a Saturday night, etc.

When I retire I will be relegated to be carrying full metal jacketed ammo, or solids.

This was the case I was thinking of. There is also the case of Shaneen Allen, who was pardoned by Governor Christie.

Not sure of you meant this case Leonard.

49.....it's a sad to say but your states laws on guns is really screwed up. I so glad that I live in a state where the state law makers have still got some common sense.

Boy, you said a mouthfull, Eddie! I can't think of a wider range of policy than between Oklahoma and New Jersey. Unless it might be Alaska and New Jersey.

Seriously, the whole country uses hollow point bullets and a retired police officer in New Jersey is restricted, by law to FMJ? That is quite literally, INSANE !

I mean, even the "connect the dots", travel from shooting range to home, but better not "detour" to McDonalds for an Egg McMuffin, or to Starbucks for a Latte'. So, the TRUE BELIEVER police officer gets out the map to see if this citizen has strayed for a direct route to his home. We could be talking arrest and jail!

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm picking on a member's home state, but (think about it) who's really responsible? Not me, it's misguided lawmakers in that unpatriotic state. I say again, Kommiefornia is headed in that direction, so I have no room to talk.

Good hunting. El Bee

No offense Leonard.

I was born here, have a job here, and have an expanding family here. It's going to be tough to leave depending on where the kids and grandkid(s) end up.

Looking at the idea of a time share in Arizona for the future.

Hey, Great! One day, maybe we might be neighbors? I really think I'm headed that way, if I don't die first?

Don't talk about dying. You could teach me a thing or two about Arizona coyote hunting!

Fortunately, we have a number of AZ members that could steer you in the right direction. But, like they say, you could sit down anywhere in the state and a coyote would hear your call.

Some good AZ citizen settled the hash of a ne'er do well that had shot a state trooper and was in the process of pounding his head into the pavement within the last couple of days. Apparently shot the guy right off of the trooper.

Sounds like my kind of state, too!

Down memory lane.

You know, of course, that Arizona was the last state to complete the Interstate system. Well, we used to sneak on to the construction access just a few miles east of Quartzite and we would hunt all weekend between there and Buckeye and had it all to ourselves.

The only speck of civilization was a store in the middle of the desert and it had a sign over the door announcing this little outpost of Tonopah! The reason that spot in the middle of nowhere rang a bell was because of Tonopah, Nevada, an actual city in Nye County, Nevada.

But, believe me, Tonopah, AZ was NOTHING! Wasn't even open, every time I passed by. A little country store, that's all it was. Now, it's a busy gas up spot with convenience stores and somebody has made a few bucks since we first started killing coyotes around there, I'm pretty sure it was circa 1975, I'm not even sure if that store had electricity at the time?

It actually wasn't much smaller than Quartzite, back then, but look at Quartzite now, especially now with the Gem and Mineral Show and the RV Show. Believe me, back then, one gas station and one restaurant right at the intersection of US95 and I-10. I've killed a few coyotes right near the bridge where 95 crosses I-10.

Now, of course, Quartzite is a well known speed trap. You better not be going more than 75MPH within town limits!

Make no mistake, Tonopah is still in the middle of nowhere!

Good hunting. El Bee
