Anybody ever try paddling a canoe with one of those long double bladed kayak paddles ????
I can get a deal on a kayak paddle but not too sure if it would be useful or not.

Koko, not yet, but I intend to in the near future.
I bought a NuCanoe last fall on clearance and just purchased a 280 cm kayak paddle for it. The NuCanoe is a wider than a normal canoe so the longer paddle is recommended.

Maybe as a spare, but there is a reason why canoe paddles are made the way they are. Entirely different stroke, too. Spend a weekend in a kayak and you will feel the entirely different muscles employed in the propulsion. I don't see how having a paddle on the handle end would allow you a proper J stroke without dodging it? Unless a total giveaway bargain, I'd look for a proper paddle.

I considered trying a kayak paddle for my canoe, I actually had 3 of them at one time. All Old Towns. Trouble is you'd have to ride in the center of the canoe and raise yourself up to a higher center of gravity making the canoe more vulnerable to tipping.
I learned to paddle the old time proven way. My 17 ft canoe was hard to keep straight in a stiff wind, tho. But I had a 15' for those days.

Not too worried about tipping.
My normal mode of paddling is standing up in the back using a 5 foot long paddle.
And no, I'm not set up with out-riggers. Just been doing it that way forever.
Thinking that when I do sit to paddle that the kayak paddle might be a bit better & less motion when moving in on sunning / spawning carp.

Let me get this straight.
First of all, you live in the Arizona desert, if I'm not mistaken? Then, when you moved there, you kept your canoe? What for? And now, you seek advice, since apparently, when you packed your stuff, you packed the canoe but not the paddle? And, now you have a hot deal on a friggin' kayak paddle. People respond, essentially telling you it's not the right "app" but you blithely disregard well intended advice with some inane comment that you normally stand up in your canoe, in the desert, all the time?
I give up!
edit: are you voting for Hillary, by chance?
edit: this is standing up in the back of your canoe with a kayak paddle and a bow with arrow looking to bushwhack innocent carp? I can just about picture it...swimming to shore.

Actually, there's quite a few places locally to put the canoe on water. We just don't publicize it too much, otherwise Californians would start showing up and make this place like ....... California.
And yeah, I brought the paddles with me. A regular one for sitting and a long one for standing.
Just always looking for a chance to improve technique.

Never could get excited about bass fishing, plus they aren't especially good table fare. This time of year though, that lake is killer for catfish and crappie, both of which are excellent eating! Ive fished that lake many many times in my youth, brother had a boat and we would camp there many a weekend in the spring time.

Roosevelt has changed and not for the better.
Everywhere you go around the lake there will be a sign proclaiming "NO ......." I still get over there now & then but they've taken a lot of the enjoyment out of it.
