Had my buddy from OK fly in to do some coyote calling, newyawk style! We managed to kill one on a chilly morning, at one of my proven honey holes. I don't care how many coyotes I see come into the call elsewhere, there's nuthin' like calling one here in NY in the daytime!!!
We made some more good stands, just didn't have any takers. Unfortunately, a few other spots I had planned to hunt had been mowed down by the local hound hunters. We bumped into a crew one morning, and actually wound up hangin' with them for a couple hours. They even shot a coyote out in front of the hounds while we where there. Crazy part is, that coyote crossed the road and got shot literally 100yds from where we parked & made a stand the day before. That crew had been runnin' dogs thru that whole valley for the last couple weekends, so its no wonder a coyote didn't wanna stick its neck out & come to a call when we made stands down there.
Anyhoo, was sure glad to get one called in for my homey! Here's a quick vid, walking out after a successful stand. One happy Okie and one VERY happy newyawka!!! 6x45AI, 87Vmax ~180yds... 44.3 lb. female After the shot video linky [ January 10, 2017, 06:52 AM: Message edited by: knockemdown ]

Thanks, Fred
Interesting that you can call them that far from the treeline? That's pretty wide open for a honey hole, whatever works, eh?
Another thing. Destroys my concept of Neuyawk, totally!
Good hunting. El Bee
edit: yikes, I'd a never guessed that animal at 44 pounds? [ January 10, 2017, 07:00 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

Yeah, you can hear him guess 42 lbs when he picked it up. We weighed it back at the house. Hound hunters told us they had a 58 lb. male the week before!
Central newyawk cow country is beautiful! That spot is open, but secluded. Kind of a perfect storm of cover, approach terrain and favorable wind. Kicker is, the coyotes like to be there! Have a few stands like that, they are all I ever hunt, really. To a one, I'm honestly surprised (almost pissed) when they don't produce! Just glad one did & we got to enjoy the show...

Very nice Fred !! Interesting also. Different country here, probably not much difference in the farm land. I wouldn't imagine ? anyway I'm impressed getting her out in the open like that.

Thank you, guys! Pretty sure that crunchy snow screwed us @ night. Man, in that sub-zero air, you could hear a mouse fart @ 200yds! Every step in the dark made me cringe with how loud it was. Had a pack answer us on one night stand and they were barely 400yds away. But they just wouldn't budge, and I threw the friggin' kitchen sink at em. They're gonna be a bitch to call in, now...if at all!
On a side note, while we were basking in the glory of killing ONE coyote in NY, Kelly & his partner Aaron whacked 15 on Saturday to win a contest in Okieland! Incredible...
