I seldom post kill pics or stories any more but my wife got a great pic on our last trip to eastern Oregon. I bought her a very nice Nikon SLR last Christmas and she wanted to try and get a few coyote pictures with it. Days were hot but mornings were cool. We made a total of 5 or 6 stands, called in 3 and killed 2. I pointed out the approaching coyote to her and she snapped the picture just as I pulled the trigger. One in a million for a still camera.

Dave: Here's another perspective on the same place. This pic was taken a year ago. We often find the coyotes in the thick sage. This dog was my 7th kill at this spot.

I hear ya Moe. I think coyotes find security in the thick sage. Which is great for them, but, sometimes a challenge for us.
That area in the pic looks kinda familiar. Lake county maybe western Harney ?
Not lookin' for spots just curious ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Malheur. We called a coyote the stand before this one in Harney. I have a set of surface ownership maps and have plotted out small parcels of BLM land surrounded by private property. Kind of a disjointed way to go hunting but I don't have to ask permission and sometimes the calling is outstanding.

I'm with ya Moe. It seems, I've always had better luck closer to private land, ranches, than miles and miles way way out there somewhere.
I think, I get the pic now. Cottonwood Mtn in the back drop. Never hunted there, was ice fishing on Malheur reservoir last winter. Good country over there. I deal with some alfalfa farmers in that area.
If, I'm wrong on that. I'm really gonna' look stupid. Well worse than usual anyway ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Not Cottonwood Mountain. Long ways from it.
Any time you find alfalfa fields surrounded by tall sage you can count on finding coyotes in the sage in the daytime. Cattle, deer or antelope is a major plus. You find coyotes pretty much everywhere over there but the most reliable spots are near the alfalfa fields and game and cattle.

Or Denio, even. BTW, if you ever get to Denio Junction be sure to order their special hamburger. Really good. Goes good especially when your Chevy Silverado breaks down and you're waiting for a tow truck to get you to Winnemucca where you have to wait for 3 days for the repair. I don't buy Chevies anymore.

Yeah, I thought I needed one, myself. But container plants have held me hostage for several years, worse than feeding a dog, how many days can I be gone without watering, etc.

There is only one left in our home - some fern type that has been placed (read: neglected) on top of the kitchen cabinets. I'm the only one tall enough in the house to reach it, and it only gets attention if I happen to look up while at the kitchen sink. It has been thirsty, flooded, burned, and frozen, but refuses to perish. Maybe I'll replant it in the garden next spring to set an example for my vegetables to follow.
