Well I finally called px magazine to find out where my aug. issue was ,seems they had me marked as a cancellation.crisis averted!
Three toes Ive ben waiting for each issue to see whats next.
I've got the dog,a red heeler
comes and stays fairly well were still working on it, shes now 6 months old bonded to me. eager to please and completely GUN BROKE .shes been out on a few stands. only to sit and wait with me. Ive not released her as yet,at what age and weight should I let her run. shes now 32 lbs. very fast and extremely agile.do you control how far they run simply by signaling them back in to you.or are they trained to stay within a range. Im really afraid to let her go as I have not hunted coyotes with a dog before. Im at best a recreational caller though a passionate one I simply love predator hunting and want to expand it a bit with the dog.I dont want to let her out to early and damage what might be a good thing.what is the best way to handle an attack by mutiples? has this happened to you? any tips you might throw my way would be greatly appreciated...If any of these questions create a conflict with your future aricles I undersatnd why you may not want to respond in a forum.

Sounds like she's ready to go Paul. There are lots of ways to call your dog back, whistles, barks, etc. you just have to figure out what works with your dog. As for multiples, your dog is going to get chewed on a little, it's part of the game. I had three coyotes dog pile my cur this morning, they won the dog fight. But I won the gun fight. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

she comes to a squeaker no problem,we'll giver a go in the a.m. a lot of pups out now bout her size.a little baptism by fire is probably best.

How old do you let your dogs get before they scrap a bit with those coyotes. I'm afraid my pup might get ruined if I start her too early.
Both the dogs were out today, and one tangled with a piece of barbed wire on his ear. Damn red stuff everywhere, man those ears can bleed.

Dan, there is no pat answer. It varies from dog to dog. Some are way more agressive and ready earlier, some take forever. I have one dog right now that is 2 years old and just finally starting to come on. I have had others hunting at 8 to 10 months.

A few of my dogs where drawing blood at 1 year of age. Brother in-law had one that would roll over on his back or head for the pickup and crawl underneth it.

My dog turned 1 year old this month. It's like a switch just turned on for her. She seems to be geting much more agressive and her coordination, running speed, basically motor skills are turning on. She's not nearly as clumsy anymore.

Yah i hear that. My KAT-A-Hoo-LA is the clumsyiest thing you ever seen but coming around now. But he is a good boy you just have to throw him at them(coyotes) sometimes...Literaly!!

Went out sunday am til the heat sent us home.
the dog sat on stand , never really to venture far out. we were only able to call in one fox that exited on seeing the dog and she never really never saw it, and one coyote that dropped in to a draw and did not materialize again.she did get her hackles up and went to our rear flank once leading us to believe we had one at the back door.we were in pretty heavy cover. all in all good day. cant wait for the weather to cooperate and cool down some.
