Its a little early for me to be out calling but just had the itch and thought it would be fun to play with the kids.
The crops are coming out of the field, but residue has not been plowed under so when you look through a thermal you get the effect of snow like conditions.
I went out first and sited in the 22-250 ackley and the 204 ruger. Took longer to set up than to site them in.
Nephew was supposed to come along and I was going to make it his night, but he was covering a roof at 9:00 at night.

Had no time to locate so I just went to some of the honey holes. First stand was 1/2 mile from my kennel. The farmer renting the field left some round bales out there for me to use for cover.
Since its early into the season plan was not to use any coyote vocals unless the coyotes said otherwise. 15 minutes into stand a young female shows up and i drop her at 137 yards just using some rabbit and some ackley medicine.

Next stand is about 1 mile away to west of farm. 15 minutes in and another lone female shows up and she drops at 90 yards from some ackley medicine. Only rabbit used again.

Next stand is about 5 miles south from kennel. I set up and realized I had 3 coyotes mousing around out in a field. Played some rabbit blues and a small coyote is off and running to me from the group. Turns out Mom was the third coyote and she barked to stop the small coyote from getting into trouble. It worked. I just let things get quiet and come back at later date and set up different, too early in season to mess with them.

Another 5 miles down road and west of the thriple stand I set up in a pasture with old shed for cover to hide pick up and could overlook the creek bottom that ran left to right.
15 minutes in with rabbit blues and another young female comes in alone. This time I had the 204 along and dropped coyote at roughly 50 yards.
Weather conditions was 50 degrees, very slight breeze and not enough to be concerned about as the coyotes didn't try to play the breeze but just came straight in. Had kind of a dirty sky off and on with a 80% mega moon. First stand at 11:00, second 12:30 a.m., next at 2:00 a.m. and last at 3:30. Nothing exciting to report just basic textbook early season responses.
As time goes more vocals will be used and longer time on stand.
I skinned all the coyotes and ran the meat through a meat grinder and made hamburger patties and then tossed them in garbage. [Eek!] [Big Grin] [Razz]

This illustrates the basic difference. "One mile down the road, or even 5 miles."

Right now, here in "The People's Republic" it's at least 75 miles to reach the edge of civilization and even then, you had better use abundant discretion if discharging a firearm. Past that, you run into the dirt bike crowd that has completely disturbed the serenity of the desert, as we once knew it.

Over this way there's plenty of open land ...... and an endless parade of side by sides cruising every two track and cow path.
Kind of annoying to hike back into a place for a couple of miles only to have somebody who went around the gate drive by.
But hey, .......... I survived my heart attack. At their level of fitness, I wish them luck. [Razz]

Holy Cow, Richard! I did not know that about you! You look very fit for a man of your age?

For me, I come by it hereditarily. My father was on a ventilator for the required 3 days before they could legally remove him from the apparatus as brain dead, but he had a strong heart that continued to beat for over an hour after they removed the machine. My blood pressure has always been low, typically 125/80. My wife had high cholesterol, approaching 300, as did her mother. And mine is usually half that. I don't have any pre diabetes symptoms, either. I will probably die healthy?

Well, everybody has a cross to bear.

Yeah, that was about twenty years ago. Interesting experience.
Cheap advice for anybody that's over weight or smokes; Get knowed up on how to read that monitor they hook you up to. Pulse, respiration, O2 in the blood, blood pressure, etc. and those squiggly lines with the spikes. Get an idea of what they are.
It's a lonely feeling laying on a gurney and they won't tell you shit. "Hey, did I have a heart attack or what ??".... "Well you have non-specific abnormalities in your blood work." [Confused] [Confused] Took a while to find out what that one meant.

End of rant.

You know what, ko ko?
I have that same attitude, or whatever you call it? Doctors act like; It's none of your damned business! I get that over major and minor conditions. Which I won't bother to list. But, I have found out stuff from 5 years ago that nobody bothered to tell me about! It does sometimes seem like, well....it's rather personal to discuss, you would think it was their condition as a reason for privacy. Maybe they don't exactly lie about it, but they sure as hell tend to keep confidential stuff they know about your personal health. And, I think it's rather more prevalent than you might imagine?

I think you have to interrogate the doctor as if he is a suspect. Not kidding!

I could understand it if was something like "You have a bad case of XYZ Disease which has a 50% survival rate ...... less if you get excited." [Eek!]

I think that they take the attitude that the less you know, the less you can come back and sue them for. Plus, they're Drs. and the unwashed masses probably wouldn't even understand so why waste his precious time explaining it ??

You may be right?

Doctors don't want to share your condition with you, so that you don't worry so much! It's just out of kindness and consideration.

Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better!
