and finding out how much shit got destroyed in the fires. It's a big deal.

I know here, my son in Tennessee told me we had 100 mile per hour winds. I had not stopped to think about it but it sounds about right. and they say 10,000 homes burnt down.

And they say insurance rates will climb. Well, no shit! Any excuse. Rates don't go down, they always go up. Rates are so high I hear that some people thought they could skimp a bit and not have fire coverage. Well, we know how that turned out. But we have problems all over southern California. and southern California is a big place, big population and a big square mile area, I think it's at least 350X400 miles. and that's biger than a lot of states put together. Just off the top of my head, seems like as far as area, it's as much as Wyoming or Colorado, maybe so and or North Dakota. California ia a big state, and who cares what goes on here....right?

Anyway, I expect every body's rates will go up, sort of to cover their losses. Insurance companies never lose, and if they do they make it up. It's like a commandment. thou shall not lose a dime. And they don't.

So anyway, I don't know who has been followingthis mess, but I'm just now finding out. It's pretty big. and there is a lot of destruction! Just thought I'd let the Peanut Gallery know about it. Seems like everything in California is dramatic, a big deal. But this time, it's a pretty big deal.

Good hunting. El Bee

I was wondering how you were doing? If you had power or flames out the front door.

It isn't a good thing those winds.

Another reason I refuse to live in or on a national forest boundary.
FS will not but a fire out now and you're on your own.

Really? Biden says the government will cover the losses? Well, you know what that does? Like Hurricane Katrina. Multi mega millions of fraudulent claims.

But it looks like super scandal, the Mayor, the Fire Chief, who knows how many worthless diversity hires with zero skills. The mayor pulls down $750,000 per year, and was in Ghana and came back via military non stop jet. She should have paid her own way 1st class knocking down that kind of money.

You know, seems like since I retired, I haven't been paying all that much attention. But salaries have gotten completely out of control. They say that the CEO of United Healthcare, that was killed had been making $10,000,000 for at least the last 4 years.

I'm not even going to say what it was, but I recently heard how much we are paying the City Manager of Upland, a city of just under 80,000 residents. But. It's a LOT!

No fucking wonder inflation is out of control! There are no guide-rails. A million dollars is chump change. Walking around money.

And, I get forty dollars raise on my social security. How much is a Starbucks Latte? That might buy-a couple. In airports if it's the only concession and it usually is, I order plain coffee, and it's still about $3.50.

Prices are out of control.

But these fires are a fucking scandal. That's pretty basic, the fire hydrants should have water, right? No water for firemen to fight the fire, but the Mayor took $20 million from the fire department and used it on illegal homeless people. A humanitarian gesture. Meanwhile, look at the damage!

Everything in LA is over the top! But this is really a bad deal. The damage must run to the Billions? I know, nobody gives a shit about The People's Republik. Except for the politics, you know the climate is great, except when we have some big deal, earthquake fire, flood, etc. The Hollywood people are affected disproportionately. That's some very expensive real estate.

It hurts to get wiped out, no matter how wealthy you are. Mementos, your stuff. Who knows what people reach for when they gotta get out, and just grab something, if they can even do that? I'm just glad it's not me. We had a fire in the neighborhood years ago. Earthquake. 3 houses across the street caught on fire, one burned to the ground. Coming home from work I had to dodge firehoses all up and down the streets, but it was literally on the other side of the street, not my side.

You ain't seen nothing yet .............

When the politicians & such are thru pointing fingers and assigning blame to others some low level bean-counter accountant is going to point out that the million $$$ homes that they were taxing are now burnt out vacant lots. Massive loss of tax revenue that no self respecting Democrat politician is going to accept. 'Somebody's' gonna have to make up the difference. ...................... [Eek!]

And;

I PREDICT; Between now and March, Dr. George will rise up and pronounce to the people, "Spring Rains and Mudslides. Ain't gonna be pretty."

On a happier note, there are now a lot of people who need a new house therefore making yours worth even more. Sell when the market's high, etc. etc.

Yeah, I finally felt a little better today so I went out and started chopping up branches. And, I have everybody's trash in my yard!. It is obviously neighbors to the west of me because that's the direction that the wind was blowing from. This is tissues and Q tips and bandages, used, and lots of personal stuff like it's contents of bathroom trash cans. As a matter of fact, it is stuff that I'm a little queesy picking up without gloves. It's all over, and so is the leaves and branches, some about 4" or so. I will screw with it, and if somebody comes by and offers to haul it, I will pay.

I have been not feeling well while this shit is going on, had stuff delivered, which I have not done much of before, but came in handy so it serves a purpose.

So, luckyily, we had no fires here, just savage wind and pool man really earned his money this week, without power, he just about filled my green bin with leaves and small branches. No power for two days. and no Internet, no WiFi, no furnace, no land line and no cell phone either. I did get my vehicle out of the garage so I could charge the phone and could text people.

But on another subject, I have a question for everybody. Do you people get daily inquiries from people, on the phone and direct mail with offers to buy your house? Is this happening every where or just in California? Besides refi offers, a day doesn't go by where I don't get multiple offers to list, to buy, etc. I'm just wondering if this market is super hot or it's going on all over the country.

And, especially the last few days. dwellings are apparently scarce, with so many burned out, cash offers!

What's the deal? Let me know, just curious.

I was wondering how you made out LB, God help those people when they try to rebuild, well those that do. Getting permits and construction materials are going to be a PIA. Then reassesd property values, and where are they going to haul all the burnt homes trash when the demo begins, going to possibly need a few more landfills. Maybe they will put some water in the reservoirs they were supposed to build with those billions of dollars.

Just responding to landfill question. It seems that this area is blessed with mountainous terrain and ready made canyons waiting to be filled and leveled. There is something called Eagle mountain that's maybe 150 miles and has a rail line and box cars, etc. Doesn't seem to be a problem where to bury our trash. A high school friend, Rod Agajanian is a trash tycoon in Monterey Park. It's been there for years and they are still packing it in.

Now, as far as permits, so far as I know, our Liberals have made that situation into a bureaucratic maze. All environmental bullshit. Where my daughter is, they are right off an off ramp of PCH Hyway 101. It required just over 10 years to approve the building of a grocery story, not a big supermarket, just a neighborhood convenience store. They don't apologize for nothing but they claim they need to study environmental impact what a stupid grocery store will have on the environment.

These people might have a hard time getting building permits. Existing housing is becoming scarce.

Checking in to see that all here are OK - I see the troops are still bitchin', so that's a good sign. Great to see it!

Also, good to see others sharing my sentiments.

I see Newsome released a statement this AM claiming that he is relaxing certain permitting requirements and is mandating that state employees expedite the process...... whatever that means.

Acronym - BOHICA.

I've already heard/read about the greenies drooling over rebuilding "high density housing" in the affected areas - think Big Brother approved Orwellian 1984-esq multistory apartment buildings commonly seen in news coverage from bombed-out Ukrainian Donbas area villages....

Don't get me started on inflation and salaries these days - I bailed out of the working world at the height of the "plan-demic" after being declared "essential (read as "expendable") because of my work on regulatory related (EPA) analytical equipment. I was working 13 on, 1 off 12 hour days on call 24/7 while they sent people <1/2 my age home on full pay.

I quit.

I still hear from that employer often and always respond with, "I'm easy, but I ain't cheap."

It's irritating watching the Ca. leftist politicians and public functionaries - note I did not call them servants - I'd sure like to think voters have learned some lessons. Again. Some more. Again.
There is an LA county press conference playing in the background as I type, it is making it almost impossible to not post vindictive nonsense so I'll just repeat that it is great to see the good people here still active!

If they rebuild on existing property shouldn't be much of a problem. And yes, City or whoever will give a few breaks or allow corners to be cut if rebuilding. But i did read somewhere the Gov. wants to cut aid to those in Cali. and let Cali. handle the burden themselves. Property value could go up as well and be dam good time for Leonard to sell at profit and get hell out of the state.

I disagree Leonard. When shit like that happens, they tend to give it a priority to help get people back in their homes again but then again, its Cali. and wasn't a poor neighborhood.

Had tornado here years back, my place in country was still standing. Sold it for double what I paid.
Then I got a free double lot in town and built a new house for half money I got from sale of other home. some of building permits was also waved at time. no big whoop.

This could get interesting. The voters in Calif. will either wake up and cast out the Democratic Demons or the politicos will grant themselves far reaching 'Emergency Authority' and Calif. will become forevermore a Socialist Shithole, probably with a special 'Departing Calif.' tax.

I'd say it's 50-50.

Tim;
Seeing as how Calif. is a 'Sanctuary State' I could see that happening.

I've never met Clever Gary so have no ax to grind with him but a gun owner who hunts could only be an improvement for Calif.

gun owner/hunter sure. But Gary's head not right. I think he threw one of the calling clubs under the bus years back. He could also pass for a clone of Biden.

Ah yes! Gary *levenger, a Hail Fellow, Well Met. The Cheeseburger Dude. Singlehandedly destroyed a thriving predator hunting community, out of jealousy. Seems he could never compete or even be adequate. Or, something? Lots of odd things account for his reputation, it would be good if he found something suitable, woodworking, maybe lapidary; possibly horticulture? Working with his hands, therapeutic, etc. What a guy.

But I am sure that Tim was at the Pichacho Peak hunt and that was the one that Clever Gary attended so they may have bonded? Reminds me that Higgins picked that crummy location in the weeds. We had some great camping locations, all good, except that one. Thanks, Rich!

Anyway. Look, Tim. I KNOW what Minnesota is like, I was born there. You have not anything to brag about, disparaging the state of California. You got skeeters and marginal fishing, and it's colder than a welldigger's ass! That's the good, we won't mention any of the bads. These people are stylish with their billed caps w/earflaps tucked under. And gollashes in the mud room, hockey skates hanging on the wall beside the storm windows. August is dog days, can't swim in the lake any more, or you will catch Polio. In spring, the snow melts, showing you all the preserved dog shit all winter. Yes, and Knotty Pine is King! This is what every Minnesota rumpus room looks like, with a minnow bucket as a trash can next to the Lazy Boy. Ho buy, and they laugh at Kalifornia, the People's Republik! And if you ain't Swedish, you are probably black?

All true, all verifiable.

Leonard you were a teenager back then living in another big city and got out once in a while to hunt pheasants or fish. 60's, early 70's??? believe me much has changed in this state over last 20-30 years not like what you remember it to be.

Its now Jan. and no snow on ground or skeeters. last year at this time i was out night calling with just nice warm jacket on.
Fishing is good up north on walleye lakes, 4,5,6,7,8,10 pound walleyes can be caught.

Not many wear hats/caps here now days with ear flaps cept for some farmers way up north.
Black? only have one black man living in town, I had to go into the service to actually see one up close. Lakes you can swim in most any of them here cept for water run off ponds i twin cities.

Pine trees are way up north with the birch trees. where i live its cottonwood, oak, walnut, ash, apple, pear, elm, evergreens and bunch of others. LOL
Knotty pine mostly cabins and few homes, I have it cause it hell of a lot better than white sheetrock, gives home that rustic look.
Whats funny is flowered shirts and shorts cut to the knees like seen in cali vid.s or movies. Blue jeans rule here. LOL

On different note i was just getting home from my farm and noticed my red fox was out early hunting and was in my yard. Nice big male. Always see his tracks around house after a snow but first time seen him by the house in broad day light.

Yeah, Red Fox is a mystery to me! I've still never managed to kill one?

You know, the Navajo reservation is huge. I'd guess it comprises close to 25% of the entire state of Arizona. But what's interesting is, those people don't know what a "village" is? I have hunted and explored a bunch of reservations, and they all clump together in communities, for whatever reason? Not the Dine' they are spread out, every Hogan all by itself, with 50 sheep and 6 dogs....and a Direct TV dish! lol

It is very difficult to call coyotes, at least, on that reservation. All you call in are their dogs, and swear to god, they are all the same, a medium size rather long haired black with tan markings. I have never seen a different dog, they must clone them?

But, another thing, it almost seems like every sweat lodge, Kiva or hogan has a pet Red Fox? Why the dogs don't chase them away, I don't know, but I've flushed them many times, flat out, and you don't want to be shooting in what is basically their yard. That's it. You never know, driving a faint two track and top a small him and there's the locals, maybe a vehicle and maybe not, but you can bet somebody's home, regardless.

Anyway, that's all the Red Fox stories I got. Except for northern Canada. Any fox you see off in a field is at least a half a mile away and it's just like coyotes, slow down and they take off. Except the coyote may be 50 feet off the road. I'm telling you that Canadian Red Fox are, or must be heavily pressured by anybody driving on their roads. And these are good graded roads with wide ditches on both sides. The pastures are in squares and practically unprintable (like hedgerows), in France.
Well, you cn bust through them but it's easier to walk around. I don't know what they grow in the summer, maybe wheat, IDK? But, big fields all laid out in squares, unless close to the National Park, I think it's called Prince Albert? Hunting the edges for wolves.

But, getting a decent shot at a Red Fox? Wasting ammo! And they are running before you can break out a gun. I certainly never bothered, maybe 500 yards, never saw one closer than that. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Good hunting. El Bee

At one time red fox behavior was kind of the same, you drive down road and stop and off they go or some just lay there knowing their den is only a foot or two away. Most of the younger hunters or lazy hunters just take pot shots at them, they had no clue on how to hunt and stalk a red fox. Most today's hunters have no clue what hunt/stalk is, rather now they just sit in a heated tree stand and hope one comes by in morning or will hit on a bait pile.
At one time you could say the fox population was almost like coyote population in AZ. Red fox could be found most anywhere.
I had a red fox one time lay by its hole during the day and soon as you got close it would dive into the hole. I decided to place a trap next to the hole and ended up catching 6 red fox from same set over two weeks times.

Hunt and stalk avr. shot distance was 100 yards if you did your job right and at times if out after them with blowing snow can end up 40 yards away. it was pretty common to keep a eye on the ones that laid up in a tuff area for you to put the sneak on them and just keep eye out for them to get a pattern and then wait for a storm to move in and then put sneak on.
Skie googles was a useful tool to have when this was done, plus set of bi-pods.
At later date calling was done to help put a few more in the truck, best times was before dark or early morning or in a area that saw very little traffic.
Red fox live mostly in a one-mile square area depending on how land layed out and they always be there till you killed them. if jumped they run pretty much a straight line to edge of terr. and then start to circle, if you played the game right you walk left or to right of where they ran off to and catch them as they try to circle back. Just another chess game.

Also, at a later date I had better equipment, and my shooting skills increased over time and then i did practice some long-range shooting on red fox with my longest kill shot at 767 yards measured with lazer range finder. On that fox I started with a 17 cal. but could not see where the bullet hit when i missed so it made it tuff to figure out my settings. Ended up grabbing the 22-250 ackley and got elevation dialed in but my windage was way off due to the 15 mph wind. I could see where the bullet hit the ground and just kept dialing in windage till fox tipped over. I believe it took five shots.

What if I told you, the left wing and right wing both belong to same bird!
