I admit, I do not know the whole, entire story of corruption within the NRA. For several years there have been stories and charges and I have been basically neutral.
But, if the NRA has been guilty of squandering our money and Wayne La Pierre is basically a thief, do we air our dirty laundry, or protect and support an organization that protects our rights?
I got a letter from the NRA. I can't understand how this would, or could happen, but they are offering me a refund on my life membership. It's not a lot, $50. Or I can let it be and they will treat it as a donation. (so then is it taxable)
Question is. How many in the Peanut Gallery have received this letter and what did you do about it?
My personal feeling is of betrayal. Do I have enoug money to support the lavish life? But, exactly what the fuck is it? How come we don't know who did what?
I'll sit on this, but my initial thought was that I need fifty bucks more than does the NRA. I don't know?
So, anybody have an idea? Do they deserve to survive? I''ll tell you right now, their "requests" for support have not slowed down. Do they deserve our support, are they spending it for our benefit?
Comments?

Tough questions. Are the Directors blind to what has been going on, or in on it ???
I Googled nra life membership refund. Didn't get anything except;
NRA Rules; 22NYCRR 100.0. Lifetime membership does not expire and cannot be transferred or refunded.
Being cynical and paranoid I would be suspicious of some kind of scam or con. Mayhap they need your credit card info to 'refund' your $50 ????? I think that I would 'drop a dime' and call them to confirm. ......... and not a number on the letter. A known number off of your card or from the magazine.
I'll keep an eye our for my letter. Been a life member since 1983.

I left the NRA in 2010 after 15 years of membership. When LaPierre and his right hand man, Chris Cox hinted the organization might support anti-gun Senator Harry Reid’s reelection bid back then, I cancelled mine and looked elsewhere. They were all smiles at the ribbon cutting event in Nevada at the new gun range (Clark County Shooting Park) Reid helped secure the land for. Besides, I never considered a lifetime membership to anything because of what has been illustrated with Wayne Lapierre’s corrupt actions affecting millions of its members .
There’s a lot of good people who belong to the NRA but there’s also other pro gun groups out there who fight for our gun rights just as hard. And recently groups like GOA, NAGR, and FPC were out there fighting against the ATF’s continued overreach , one that pops into mind was the pistol brace rule. The NRA as an organization was slower than most others in any type of response.
Take the 50 bucks and join one of the other pro-gun organizations.
Just my 2 cents.

Well, yeah. Thanks for the input.
The thing about the NRA is it does have a huge profile that Rife and Pistol doesn't have. A broad recognizable identity and it evokes a strong anti from the entire "other side". It is something that just money can't buy.
However, I'm still gnawing on the betrayal aspect. The last thing I expected since, as a life member, there are constant requests, we need more money to fight for YOU!
Well, if the implication is close to the truth, and I have seen film of La Pierre shooting an elephant, and I went to Africa but the money involved in elephant shooting is way, way far beyond my ability to even consider. IT just means that this dude went first class and that's a luxury reserved for millionaires, as far as I know about it. Now, did he get a hunt like that for free? I don't know and do not ever expect to find out?
But it looks like he's guilty of spending our money, on lifestyle instead of lobbying congressmen and senators. And where were the checks and balances? Somebody in accounting should have blown the whistle. I'm starting to feel like played for suckers, somewhat.
ko ko. That's interesting! I never for a minute thought it could be anything but legitimate? Yes, if I call and they want my banking info, I guess that would be a red flag!
I'm still chewing on it. It's kind of an insignificant amount but it might be an attempt to gain some lost respect? I was hoping someone else got a similar letter?

I'm also in Nra life member but I haven't contributed any money to the organization in many years due to their wasteful spending. Instead I donate to Wyoming Gun Owners and Gun Owners of America. They seem to take a more active role in second amendment litigation.

I called NRA and told them to send me my refund. Kinda like a few other opinions, it has bothered me for quite a while that NRA was guilty of wasting my money on luxuries for the privileged few. Especially Wayne La Pierre.
They gave me the run around, I probably spent 15 minutes on the phone while this woman acted like it was her first day on the job. No answers and no promises, because she didn't know how many and it is first come first served and they are taking these requests in line. Couldn't even tell me if they would send a check, or exactly how I would get a refund.
It's fine. I'm glad I did it!

I just got down out of the mountains but the only thing in my mail pile from the NRA is a desperate plea for $$ donations starting at $25.

Sometimes, I wish I had a wife like that! Instead, my wife always missed me and never wanted me to leave her. It was tough but a man has to do what he needs to do, come what may.
eighteen.5 years and I miss her every day!
