This was trapped in northern New Jersey. If the pictures don't take I will refresh them tomorrow.
Thanks for looking.

Agreed. I don't see any dog in that one. Just an interesting color variation, but all the features look pure coyote, to me. And, I've seen a coydog. That ain't one.

Yeah...I thought the head and tail looked a little uncoyote like. My son in law knows the guy who trapped it. He said it was a coydog but I wasn't sure.

You know, once you get familiar with coyotes, rather than they are all the same, you can see subtle differences. A coyote with black guard hairs on the shoulders is just enough different to notice. As is a silver, they are a uniform light gray and you notice them coming in. Especially dark ones you might think are "black" until you get them on the ground.
So, even in blocky male heads, and red coyotes. I killed a coyote down in the Sahuaros one time that I thought for sure was a red fox, but wasn't.
I don't know how many coyotes you have looked at up close, but after many thousands, I don't have much trouble identifying a coyote. On the other hand, I have seen, (killed, actually) a couple that I knew right away they were different. And previously I was one that swore they didn't exist. But, in these, there was something way different. I should have my ass kicked that I didn't get pictures of either one.
But, when you see one, you will know.
Good hunting El Bee

Good point, Leonard.
I have seen just a few here in New Jersey up close. Some of them were alive, and some dead. I've never seen one with a head like that! It kind of looks like my dog's head, actually, though he has a longer snout. The coloration of the above looks more like the coyote I shot in Texas years ago.
There is a color here in north Jersey...a light red, much lighter than that of a fox, and it's consistent over the entire body except for the belly fur I think.
