Question; Does anybody know what state issues the pink CITIES tags?? Seems that there was a pretty decent lot of bobcat fur at the Az. fur sa1e with pink tags and some folks were wondering what state they came from.
Thanx.

I thought all tags everywhere were the same color in any given year. Last year's were yellow and I handled cats from both TX and KS. Am I incorrect?

Pink........Calif............. I always thought that it was supposed to be the Golden State but that was a long time ago.
Thanx Krusty BTW; I moved 1200 miles south to have my water pipes freeze & burst in Southern Arizona. Go figure.

I'm with Lance, I thought they were always yellow. I do remember some being white.
Its funny to hear all the different comments in that link of Krusty's. US dept of fish and wildlife is like any other gov't agency....a complete inefficiant joke. CITES needs to be done away with!

Those cats came from over by me.
They averaged over $400. Good news for me. Prices usually improve by the Fallon NV sale where my cats will be sold.
This year pink- next year who knows. I don't know if there is any rhyme or reason to it. Some years two or three states are the same. Other years everybody is different.
My geuss is that the states are not mandated to any certain color and do not communicate with other states but that they just try and not duplicate their previous years color.

Cool
Can we assume that most of those 'cats were cage trapped??

koko, what is it that you are looking at? I don't see a link to cats anywhere and can't even figure out what Mercer is talking about?
Good hunting. LB
PS but if it is a photo of his kill, I would say that some are caged and some are made while hunting at night and a few might be from daylight stands.
edit: and what does he mean when he says, those cats came from over by me?
edit: maybe Mercer brought some pelts to the AZ sale? Is that where you saw them, koko? [ February 09, 2011, 12:11 PM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

Ok................ No links.
There were recently a Lot of about 28 bobcats in the Az. fur sa1e with pink tags. It seems that they came from over FurHarvester's way & I was wondering if he knew if that lot was cage trapped or not.
I wasn't at the sa1e (water pipes frozen) but some of the guys there like to try to guess where certain fur qualities come from.
Eventualy, I'm going to have to get up to speed on cages & drop the coins on some 'cause I suck at calling bobcat.
Clear as mud.........no??

I wouldn't assume trapping bobcat in cages is easy.
If you suck at calling them, you are probably not in the right areas. Calling them is not difficult as long as you have a nose for likely spots.
Yeah, you should buy a few of his cages. They are slick.
Good hunting. LB

REREADING THIS WHOLE THING......
It now looks like Mercer's friend might have sold his cats at that sale? But, he like in previous years will take his up to Fallon? And, I think he will again command a high price because of the quality of our cats out here, and the excellent job he does of putting them up. I also know that if they aren't very good quality, he will release them as seed for next year.
Good hunting. LB

Sometimes reservations have different colored and looking tags for some reason. Could these pink tagged ones come from a *** . The ones I am putting on cats are yellow, can't remember any other colors in 9 seasons of doing it.

Just speculating since we really don't know, yet? But, I think it is unlikely to be a *********** tag. There is no large re$ervation that I am aware of, in CA. They own casinos and not a lot of land and I have not heard they issue any hunting permits, at all. Could be but it is extremely unlikely that you could trap 28 cats on any CA re$ervation. Well, after sticking my neck out who knows?
When Mercer says they come from out here, that would be basically Southern and Central inland California.
Good hunting. LB

Cities isn't just a US thing it is a global thing. The US and people in the know have been trying to do away with cities tags for a few years but goes above and beyond the US.
It involves 175 parties.
