It's all knee jerk reaction, top to bottom. No wonder the poor chicano kids think it's racism, the Dems (who also have not read the law) just did some rabble rousing, and it don't take much.

I am really floored by the classes offered in the Tucson school system for immigrant children. It's no damned wonder they have all these entitlement views and anti white attitudes. And, they get it in Mexico too. We stole their country, you know?

Good hunting. LB

Yes, and they want us to pass a temporary, 3 year, one cent tax to help our schools! Funny, I've seen no ads for Vote No on Prop. 100 but, I don't know anyone who is going to vote yes. We're supposed to be guilt tripped into "saving" our children's education.

I know of no one voting for prop 100 They all cry its for the childern when its actually for the top heavy admin. of the school system.
My thinking is many govt depts can go
If you can find it in the yellow pages govt. doesnt need to do it.

Our deal here was for the lottery, they set aside a big portion of the ticket sales for "education". It finaly passed and they held true to their word, they gave education the lottery money but took away other funding so now we have less but we have a lottery bygod!

The lottery was voted in here many years ago...

The sole purpose was to help fund schools. The money was to be used for school funding only! As soon as it passed the legislature made a ruling that all money had to go into the state "general" fund first and be allocated.

Guess what, our schools got very little but Chicago got lots! Now the money goes to pay for everything not just schools. So poor people on welfare buy lottery tickets(legalized gambling)to support the general fund and it gets recycled back to the state from all their entitlement programs! Make me very angry...

It's the same in The People's Republik. That Loto is a joke, education my ass! The only one's making money is the company that administers the program. What money the schools get is mostly for electronic gadgets and for teacher pay and benefits. Send the kids home with a laptop and spy on them with the built in camera. There are some sick twisted people living among us.

Guess what? The kids aren't learning shit! There is no question that they have devalued (not only) a high school diploma, but a college education is about on a par with a high school graduate of 30/40 years ago. How's that for progress? Black studies! Brown studies! Worthless! "You want fries with that?"

I'm voting yes on 100 because I have to. The wife's a school teacher and her position could be affected if it doesn't pass.

It pisses me off though. First thing you see when they start talking about needing to raise taxes is that it's for the schools, or they're going to have to cut fire and police. Bullshit I say!!! Heaven forbid we cut the water meter readers that have 7 people doing the job of 1, or the DOT folks that it takes 12 guys 2 days to fill a pothole. Oh no, got to scare the public with cutting fire and police and education...

(NOTE: No offense to the DOT or water meter folks that may be on this board, but if I ran my business or managed projects the way they did...well, we don't have to get into it.)

Wow! So much for principles. You really intend to vote yes because your wife's position COULD BE afected? I appreciate the candor, but that's a self centered reason. I think I feel sorry for ya, Amigo. (no offense intended)

None taken LB, but I really have to look at it as a business decision, ya know? My wife has been teaching for a long time and for AZ does pretty well. So, it really comes down to 1% on some goods I buy, or the wifes job...

As far as how I really feel about it, I think the second paragraph spelled it out pretty well, but to reiterate...it's BULLSHIT.

Here's the deal. They trot out the fear factor. If we don't get our budget passed, we will have to let convicts out of prison. In your case, your wife will be let go. <sob>

Almost never do they actually cut expenses, they always find the money somewhere. God help them if they ACTUALLY have to curtail spending! They never cut spending. NEVER!

And, in this case, you believe them. You would make a poor poker player, my friend.

Hey guys: I voted for prop 100. The AZ state government has cut the budget 20 percent from Napalitano’s last budget. This is assuming prop 100 passes. If it doesn't pass, they will have to cut more. The state government has acted responsible. Now if we could just get those clowns in DC to do the same, the economy might just take off again. Instead they are spending money faster than they can print it.

Just simply throwing money at the schools or cutting the schools money won't make a change until you change the rules. You have to get rid of the local unions that control education and neuter the admin from imposing real discipline 9 the Donald Trump way (e.g., your fired).

Maybe I should move the wife back out to Commiefornia where none of the teachers or civil service workers have lost their jobs or been forced into early retirement. You might want to check the news there Leonard...people are loosing jobs, and it's not idle threats.

I think the people at the casino I frequent would disagree with you on another one of those points too, but that might be a lesson better learned first hand... [Wink]

Okay, I live under a rock. I really don't care if we have teachers getting furlowed, about time. If the legistature spent us into a hole to satisfy the teachers union, firemen, police and other unions earning 95% of their salary on retirement in the first place, then that's a good place to start with economies. Teachers "work" half a year and if those that are left have classes with 35 children, I say, welcome to the real world where people get laid off all the time and those that are left assume more responsibility. That's life, unfortunately.

I don't know what the hell you are talking about? Casinos? Sounds like 1ndian issues?

The State govt. and its services are bloated real cuts must be made, the threats about education and saftey services always get thrown at us first and they always make the needed cuts elsewhere.
Our school sytem is a mess and its not the teachers that need to go, we have too many districts and superinendents. why do we have a printing office when they can contract that out for much less than we spend to keep it up and so on and so on. They need to know we are serious and make the real tough decisions we make in the average household every day.Its our money why should they be allowed to waste it! We only have power at the ballot box , man up and make the tough choices or we will watch our slow and miserlble demise in to socialism.
On a lighter note how long till oct. [Big Grin]

Seen a blurb on the TV this morning that the Obama admin. is asking for 300,000 million to help all the teachers that are being layed off. SO what now, shouldn't every other person/professional that gets layed off also get a gov. handout.
Obama can't give enough money away fast enough...Fucking Government, several states are broke, but yet everyone is still looking for handouts and the Dems. are looking to give it to them. It can't keep going this way..
Colo. just passed a new law in regards to how teachers are "rated" per say, and in this new law it got added that if a teacher looses thier job they will get TWO YEARS severence pay. WHO the FUCK gets TWO FULL YEARS of pay when they loose thier job.......what a crock of crap....

Poor money management got us into the mess we are in now.

Throwing more money into the pot for the very same clowns to manage is irresponsible at the very least.

Voting yes to POSSIBLY save your wife's job is a slap in my face as EVERYONE pays. If she is good, then she will be spared.

I'll gladly help my neighbor, but on my terms. Being forced to fork over more dollars that goes who knows where is a hard pill to swallow. I'd rather give money to a wino because at the very least, I know where the money is going.

Inept money management is not solved by those who created the problems. Need I say how I voted?

Just wait until we "Give" Greece $54 BILLION to help them out. Then how is obama, or the house, senate, going to say no to any US State that ask for more federal money?

I get why people are against the tax. Some people are going to be against any new tax because of the deep rooted distrust of the government at all levels. No argument with that at all.

When I see people making statements about throwing "more" money at the problem, and "self preservation", I think they may be missing out on the big picture.

First, you have to consider that a large portion of the revenue brought into the state governments is via income and sales taxes. Well, when people aren't working and making money, they aren't paying income tax, and they don't have money to buy things. Double whammy to the states there. So, Prop 100 isn't about "more", it's about maintaining a level that the current economy will not allow the state to maintain. Hince the 3 years only (don't come back with the "it will last forever, cause you don't know that for a fact unless you're a fortune teller, though I would agree that it's a very real possibility).

Second reality we have to look at is that education in America is going to crap. Yes, my wife is a school teacher, but I know how she handles things and the effort she puts forth. If half the other teachers and administration were as committed to the students as she was, we wouldn't have these problems. Anyway, that's not really the point. The point is, the generation of students that are barely cutting it are the one's that are going to be taking care of us in our old age. Me personally, I want them to be able to read and write. If that's self preservation, then yes, I'm all for it...

I also know I started into this thread with the "I'm voting yes becuse my wife's a teacher and can lose her job". That is a major consideration...a selfish one, I agree, but too freaking bad...as we have hunting and such, that is her passion and I want to see it preserved. Becuase that's her passion, I have some insight to the big picture, and would probably be on the "Yes on 100" side of the ledger anyway.

I might have been more inclined to vote yes if the school system was more about education and less about programs. A basic foundation of reading, writing, math & computer skills plus accountability & personel responsibility. If there's money left over, teach 'em to pull their pants up!!!!!

The spread the wealth mentality comes from all directions.

And yes, I am a fortune teller and have been around and seen these sunset taxes never die whether a temporary tax on toll roads or TPT revenue increases.
Why not sell bonds instead of increasing taxes on everyone?
Let the believers pay.

The temporary increase will help alleviate a problem but not solve the problem. Get rid of earmrks and make some serious cuts. If that doesn't happen then the status quo will become complacent in their temporary bailout. and yes it's a bailout and I don;t like it any more than the well taught citizens who bought houses and are leaving their messes for respomnsible people to tend to.

5 years ago this wasn't my hot button but it sure is today. I'm sick and damn tired of people wanting and begging for something they don't deserve. Enough is enough. Don't spread my wealth anymore. Teaching kids is not solely up to teachers and I commend anyone for taking on todays high tech babysitting duties because they genuinely care. We've tried throwing money at the problems for years. Why would this time be any different? Simple answer. NOTHING.

I know it's only a penny but that penny would cost me an extra bunch-o-money when added up at the end of the year and especially if I purchaed a new truck or house.

Add in the extra cost that health insurance is going to cost, capital gains tax, cirarette tax that was supposed to go to education, death taxes coming back on board, lottery moiney for kids, Heritage Foundation monies being robbed, and it's just still a penny. A 1 percent increase that I have to fiscally do without and manage my dwindling income so somebody else doesn't have to.

That 1 percent could have paid for a new rifle or vacation with the wife, or spending money to help my children during THEIR hard times.

The tax may technically end in 3 years but other increases will be trickled in to cover the future loss. Why? Because it's ALWAYS been that way.

It's only a penny. A penny a good waitrees would not get from me for excellant service because someone else took that money already.

Now ask me how I feel about Arabs and how everytime I tried buying a house, they start a war and my interest rate went up before closing. I'm reminded monthly when I make a house payment. Every house I have bought was done so by examining what I could do without and maintain payments because I was raised to be fiscally responsible.

DAMN!

Edited for spelling and a sentence even I couldn't unbderstand.

Edited again. Ran it thru a spell checker this time.
